Do you have a question about the AEG DKX2630M and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

This document serves as a user manual for AEG cooker hoods, specifically models DKX2630M and DKX2930M, providing essential information for installation, safe operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting. It emphasizes the importance of reading all instructions carefully before use to prevent injury or damage and advises keeping the manual in a safe, accessible location for future reference.

Function Description

The AEG cooker hood is designed for domestic use above hobs, cookers, and similar cooking devices to extract smoke, steam, and cooking odours from the kitchen environment. It operates by drawing air through grease filters and, optionally, charcoal filters, before discharging it outdoors or recirculating it back into the room. The appliance features multiple speed settings for the motor to adjust extraction power according to cooking intensity, and integrated lighting to illuminate the cooking surface.

Usage Features

The cooker hood is operated via a control panel with distinct buttons for its various functions:

  • Lamp: A dedicated button turns the lights on and off, allowing independent control of illumination for the cooking surface.
  • First Speed / Off: Pressing this button once activates the motor at the first speed level. A second press turns the appliance off.
  • Second Speed: This button activates the motor at the second speed level, suitable for moderate cooking.
  • Third Speed: This button activates the motor at the third speed level, recommended for intensive cooking, such as boiling and frying large quantities of food without a lid, or when using multiple cooking zones/burners.

The manual recommends leaving the hood operating for approximately 15 minutes before and after cooking to ensure effective removal of cooking fumes. The motor speed should be selected based on the type of cooking:

  • First speed is suitable for heating up food and cooking with covered pots.
  • Second speed is for cooking with covered pots on multiple cooking zones or burners, and gentle frying.
  • Third speed is for boiling and frying large quantities of food without a lid, or when cooking on multiple cooking zones or burners.

The appliance is intended for single household domestic use in an indoor environment. It can also be used in offices, hotel guest rooms, bed & breakfast guest rooms, farm guest houses, and similar accommodations, provided usage levels do not exceed average domestic usage.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the cooker hood's performance and safety. The manual outlines several key maintenance tasks:

  • Cleaning the Appliance Surface: The surface should be cleaned regularly with a soft cloth, warm water, and a mild detergent to prevent deterioration of the material. Abrasive detergents, brushes, steam cleaners, water sprays, harsh abrasive cleaners, or sharp metal scrapers should not be used. After cooking, allow the appliance to cool down before cleaning to avoid stains, then dry with a clean cloth or paper towels.
  • Cleaning the Interior: The interior of the appliance should be cleaned with a cloth.
  • Cleaning Grease Filters: Grease filters must be cleaned regularly, at least every two months, to prevent the accumulation of fat, which poses a fire risk. The filters can be washed in a dishwasher, set to a low temperature and a short cycle. Discolouration of the grease filter after washing is normal and does not affect performance. To remove the filters, press the handle of the mounting clip on the filter panel, slightly tilt the front of the filter downwards, and pull it out. Reinstallation is the reverse process.
  • Replacing Charcoal Filters (Optional): For models using charcoal filters, these are not washable and cannot be regenerated. They must be replaced approximately every 4-6 months, or more frequently with heavy usage. To replace, first remove the grease filters. Then, turn the charcoal filter counterclockwise and pull it off. Reinstallation is the reverse process.
  • Replacing the Lamp: Before replacing the lamp, disconnect the appliance from the electricity supply and ensure the light bulb has cooled down. Protective gloves should be worn to prevent injury. Sharp-edged tools should not be used. The lamp cover has two slots on each side and can be gently removed using a flat, non-sharp plastic tool. After replacing the lamp, mount the lamp cover back.

Safety Information

The manual provides extensive safety guidelines:

  • General Safety: Only qualified persons should install the appliance. Always use safety gloves and enclosed footwear when moving the heavy appliance. All packaging, labelling, and protective film must be removed before installation. The exhaust air should not be installed into a wall cavity unless specifically designed for that purpose. The minimum distance between the hob surface and the lower part of the appliance must be at least 65 cm, unless otherwise specified. Good air ventilation in the room is essential to prevent backflow of gases from other fuel-burning appliances. The appliance should not be used to exhaust hazardous or explosive materials or vapours. Do not flambé under the appliance.
  • Electrical Connection: All electrical connections must be made by a qualified electrician. Ensure the appliance's rating plate parameters are compatible with the mains power supply. The appliance must be earthed if the symbol is not printed on the rating plate. Always use a correctly installed shockproof socket. Avoid tangled mains cables, multi-plug adapters, and extension cables. Do not connect the mains plug if the socket is loose. Always pull the mains plug, not the cable, to disconnect. The shock protection of live and insulated parts must be securely fastened. If the supply cord or cord set is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its Authorised Service Centre, or similarly qualified persons. If connected directly to the power supply, an isolating device allowing disconnection at all poles must be incorporated into the fixed wiring.
  • Children and Vulnerable People Safety: Children aged 8 years and above, and persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities or lack of experience, can use the appliance if supervised and instructed on safe use, and if they understand the hazards. Children under 8 years and those with extensive disabilities must be continuously supervised. Children should not play with the appliance. All packaging should be kept away from children and disposed of appropriately. Children should not perform cleaning or user maintenance without supervision. Keep children and pets away from the appliance during operation.
  • Operation Safety: The appliance is for cooking purposes only and should not be used for other purposes. Do not modify its specifications. Do not operate with wet hands or when in contact with water. Use only supplied accessories. Keep flames or heated objects away from fats and oils during cooking and frying. Do not use uncovered electric grills. Do not use the appliance as a storage surface. Do not use magnifying glasses, binoculars, or similar optical devices to look directly at the lighting. If the appliance works with other devices, the maximum developed pressure must not exceed 4 Pa (4x10-5 bar).

Troubleshooting

The manual includes a troubleshooting section to address common issues:

  • Appliance not activating: Check if the appliance is correctly connected to the electrical supply. If the fuse is blown, replace it. If fuses blow repeatedly, contact a qualified electrician.
  • Lamp not operating: Replace the lamp, referring to the "Care and Cleaning" chapter for instructions.
  • Insufficient vapour absorption: Increase the motor speed to a higher setting.

Environmental Concerns

The manual encourages recycling materials with the appropriate symbol and disposing of packaging in relevant containers. It also advises recycling waste electrical and electronic appliances at local recycling facilities or through municipal offices, rather than with household waste.
