Overview

This document is a user manual for the AEG SCB6182VNS Fridge Freezer, providing comprehensive instructions for its installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting. It emphasizes safety information, general usage guidelines, and environmental concerns.

The appliance is designed for household and similar applications, including farmhouses, staff kitchen areas in shops, offices, and other working environments, as well as by clients in hotels, motels, bed and breakfast, and other residential type environments. It is a refrigerator-freezer model, indicating it has both a refrigeration compartment and a freezer compartment.

Function Description

The AEG SCB6182VNS is a fridge freezer designed for storing fresh and frozen food. The refrigerator compartment is suitable for keeping fresh food, while the freezer compartment is intended for freezing fresh food and storing frozen and deep-frozen food for extended periods. The appliance features a control panel that allows users to switch the unit on and off, regulate the temperature, and activate the Frostmatic function.

The temperature regulation system is progressive, offering settings from +2°C to +8°C, with a medium setting generally recommended for optimal performance. The Frostmatic function is specifically designed to accelerate the freezing process for fresh food and automatically deactivates after 52 hours.

The refrigerator compartment includes an automatic defrosting system, where frost is eliminated from the evaporator when the compressor stops. The defrost water drains into a special container at the back of the appliance, where it evaporates. The freezer compartment, on the other hand, is frost-free, meaning there is no build-up of frost on internal walls or food during operation.

Usage Features

To ensure optimal performance and food preservation, users are advised to follow specific guidelines:

  • Initial Setup: Before first use, the interior and all accessories should be cleaned with lukewarm water and neutral soap to remove any new product smell. After installation or door reversal, it's recommended to wait at least 4 hours before connecting the appliance to the power supply to allow the compressor oil to settle.
  • Temperature Control: The temperature regulator button on the control panel allows users to select the desired temperature for the appliance. The current temperature indicator blinks, and each touch of the button moves the setting by one position until the desired temperature is selected.
  • Freezing Fresh Food: To freeze fresh food, the Frostmatic function should be activated at least 24 hours before placing food in the freezer compartment. Fresh food should be placed in the top compartment for freezing. The freezing process takes 24 hours, and no additional food should be added during this period.
  • Food Storage:
    • Refrigerator: Warm food or evaporating liquids should not be stored in the refrigerator. Food should be covered or wrapped, especially if it has a strong flavor, and positioned to allow free air circulation. Meat should be wrapped and placed on the glass shelf above the vegetable drawer, stored for a maximum of 1-2 days. Cooked foods and cold dishes should be covered and placed on any shelf. Fruits and vegetables should be cleaned thoroughly and placed in a special drawer; bananas, potatoes, onions, and garlic should not be kept in the refrigerator unless packed. Butter and cheese should be placed in airtight containers or wrapped in aluminum foil or polythene bags to exclude air. Bottles should be closed with a cap and placed on the door bottle shelf or bottle rack.
    • Freezer: Only top-quality, fresh, and thoroughly cleaned food products should be frozen. For efficient freezing and thawing, food should be divided into small portions and wrapped in aluminum foil or polythene, ensuring packages are airtight. To avoid increasing the temperature of already frozen food, fresh unfrozen food should not be placed directly next to it. Lean foods store better and longer than fatty ones, and salt reduces storage life. It's advisable to label packs with the freezing date to track storage time.
  • Thawing: Deep-frozen or frozen food can be thawed in the refrigerator compartment or at room temperature, depending on the available time. Small pieces can be cooked directly from frozen, though cooking time will be longer.
  • Ice-cube Production: The appliance comes with ice-cube trays. Users should fill these with water and place them in the freezer compartment. Metallic instruments should not be used to remove the trays.
  • Energy Saving: To save energy, avoid opening the door frequently or leaving it open longer than necessary.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the appliance's longevity and efficient operation:

  • General Cleaning: Before any maintenance, the appliance should be deactivated and unplugged from the mains socket. The interior and accessories should be cleaned with lukewarm water and neutral soap. Abrasive powders, chlorine, or oil-based cleaners should not be used as they can damage the finish.
  • Door Seals: Door seals should be regularly checked and wiped clean to ensure they are free from debris.
  • Condenser and Compressor: If accessible, the condenser and compressor at the back of the appliance should be cleaned with a brush to improve performance and save electricity consumption.
  • Defrost Water Drain Hole: In the refrigerator compartment, the defrost water drain hole in the middle of the channel should be periodically cleaned to prevent water overflow and dripping onto food.
  • Periods of Non-Operation: If the appliance will not be used for long periods, it should be disconnected from the electricity supply, all food removed, and the appliance and accessories cleaned. The door(s) should be left open to prevent unpleasant smells.
  • Lamp Replacement: The appliance is equipped with a long-life LED interior light. Only authorized service personnel are permitted to replace the lighting device.
  • Door Closing: If the door does not close correctly, users should clean the door gaskets, adjust the door if necessary (refer to assembly instructions), or replace defective door gaskets by contacting an Authorized Service Centre.

The manual also includes a troubleshooting section to address common issues such as the appliance not operating, the lamp not working, continuous compressor operation, water flow issues, and temperature regulation problems. It advises users to refer to specific sections of the manual or contact an Authorized Service Centre for solutions.
