In
wide
spans
,
the
precision
reectometer
captures
more
data
points
than it
can
display;
adjacent
data
points
are
grouped
and
then
the
maximum
point
for
each group
is displayed.
As the
span is
decreased, the
number of
points
per
group decreases
until
all
the
points
are
displayed.
Since, in wide spans
, the maximum value is averaged, there is a dierence
between the averaged value and the
true value of a signal. The dierence (or
inaccuracy) increases with noise or span.
