Overview

The AGT Industrial Skid Steer Front Mount Cutter (AGT-BDRC48) is a robust and versatile attachment designed for clearing pond banks and cutting trails. This articulating brush cutter is engineered for durability and efficient operation, offering a range of features for effective land management.

Function Description:

The AGT-BDRC48 is a front-mount brush cutter for skid steer loaders, featuring a 48-inch cutting diameter. Its primary function is to clear dense brush, vegetation, and small trees, making it ideal for maintaining property lines, clearing overgrown areas, and preparing land for various uses. The cutter utilizes three oil cylinders for precise adjustment of lifting and side swing, allowing for versatile operation on uneven or sloped terrain. The articulating design enables the cutter deck to tilt up to 90 degrees from the horizontal position and down to 35 degrees, facilitating cutting on inclines and declines. This tilt function is controlled via the skid steer's auxiliary electric controller or paddle controller, using UP and DOWN buttons to manipulate the cutter head. The machine requires a hydraulic flow of 12-16 gallons per minute (gpm) to operate effectively. The combination of a motor and gearbox enhances its durability, ensuring reliable performance over time.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model: BDRC48
  • Max Cutting Diameter Size: 48 inches
  • Working Pressure (MPa): 20
  • Total Width: 56 inches
  • Total Height: 21 inches
  • Total Length: 133 inches
  • Total Weight (lb): 890
  • Suitable Pressure (Mpa): 16-21
  • Suitable Flow Rate (L/min): 50-120
  • Rotate Speed (r/min): 905
  • Blade Count: 2
  • Drive Mode: The piston motor drives directly
  • Angle (Tilt Function): 90 degrees (up from horizontal), 35 degrees (down from horizontal)
  • Work Environment Temperature: -20 to 50 °C
  • Work Environment Height: 100 meters or less
  • Work Environment Relative Humidity: <85%

Usage Features:

The AGT-BDRC48 is designed for ease of attachment and operation with skid steer loaders. Connecting the brush cutter involves ensuring hydraulic lines are clear, retracting locking pins on the skid steer mounting plate, driving forward to place the top of the skid steer mounting plate under the attachment mounting flange, and then raising and tilting back the skid steer mounting plate until the brush cutter attachment plate rests flat. Locking pins are then engaged either via the skid steer's lever lock switch or by manually pushing latch handles down. Hydraulic hoses and the case drain hose (for SBCNS models) are connected to the auxiliary supply couplers on the skid steer loader lift arm. The electrical attachment harness connects to the skid steer loader arm's bulkhead connector, with universal adapters available for 7, 8, or 14-pin pigtail harnesses.

For first-time use, it is crucial to check the skid steer's hydraulic oil level and add oil if necessary. The case drain hose must be properly attached to prevent excessive hydraulic pressure and seal blowouts. After starting the skid steer, the attachment should be lifted 36 inches off the ground. The auxiliary hydraulic system is then activated, and the boom is swung right using the controller. The cutter is tilted up and down to purge air from the system. After 30 seconds of running to purge air, hydraulic flow is turned off, and the cutter is allowed to stop completely before lowering it to the ground, setting the parking brake, shutting off the engine, and rechecking the hydraulic oil level. Operators are advised to maintain a driving speed between 2 and 5 mph during operation.

Maintenance Features:

Routine maintenance is essential for years of dependable service from the AGT-BDRC48. The manual outlines a comprehensive maintenance schedule, with tasks categorized by "Before Each Use," "Weekly," and "Yearly/Specific Intervals."

Before Each Use:

  • Check skid steer loader hydraulic fluid level and add fluid as necessary.
  • Check all fasteners (nuts, bolts, washers, pins, keepers) for tightness and presence.
  • Inspect and replace any worn, torn, or missing safety decals.
  • Inspect hydraulic plumbing (hoses and connectors) for damage or leakage.
  • Check the condition of cutter blades; sharpen or replace as necessary.
  • Check oil level in bearing housing and add fluid as necessary.

Weekly:

  • Check condition of cutter blades.
  • Check oil level in bearing housing.

Yearly/Specific Intervals:

  • Change oil in bearing housing: after 50 hours of first-time use, then every 1000 hours or yearly.
  • Wash the brush cutter.
  • Check the brush cutter for major scratches and dings; sand and repaint these areas to prevent rust damage using paint formulated for farm equipment.
  • Lubricate all pivot joints.

Safety Precautions:

The manual emphasizes critical safety precautions. Operators must read and understand the manual before installation, operation, or maintenance. All safety signs and declarations must be observed. It is crucial to be familiar with the functions, specifications, and operation of the Skid Steer Brush Cutter. Damaged parts must be replaced promptly, hydraulic installations and couplings must be firm, and safety signs must be clearly visible.

Key safety warnings include:

  • Always watch for overhead power lines.
  • Never place hands or feet under the mower deck while blades are spinning.
  • Never operate the brush cutter when bystanders are within 300 feet of the work area, as flying debris can cause serious injury or death.
  • Never position the body or limbs under an unsupported cutter deck.
  • Avoid contact with buildings, utilities, large rocks, or tree stumps to prevent loss of control.
  • Never operate under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
  • Always operate in daylight or well-lit areas.
  • The brush cutter must be installed on a skid steer loader equipped with a thermoplastic polycarbonate door panel and side panels only.
  • Stop the engine and set the parking brake when exiting the skid steer loader to prevent rolling.
  • Inspect for missing hardware before use.
  • Do not allow children to play on or around the equipment.
  • Always wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hard hats, steel toe boots, gloves, etc.
  • Wear work gloves when handling sharp cutter blades.
  • Use eye protection during operation and servicing.
  • Do not operate the machine if the cutter blade is visible from the operator's seat, as this indicates the cutter is too high, increasing the risk of flying debris.
  • When servicing, ensure all jack stands, lifts, and hoists are in good working condition and have the rated load capacity.
  • If servicing with the brush cutter attached to the skid steer, turn off the engine, set the parking brake, and chock wheels.
  • Allow the machine to cool down before servicing to avoid burns from hot oils.
  • Never work under an unsupported cutter deck.
  • Always release hydraulic system pressure from the auxiliary hydraulic circuit before removing the blade holder.

Hydraulic Safety:

The manual highlights the significant risk of injection from high-pressure hydraulic leaks, which can cause serious injuries that may initially seem minor but could lead to amputation. High-pressure leaks are often invisible. Hydraulic system injuries include burns from hot fluid, injection of hydraulic fluid, and trauma from energized components or flailing lines. To mitigate these risks, operators are instructed to:

  • Always Lock Out Tag Out machine controls before working on the machine or attachment.
  • Use manufacturer-recommended methods to block loader arms and other moving components.
  • Use appropriate PPE.
  • Take an approved safety course related to hydraulic systems.
  • Never use hands or other body parts to inspect for hydraulic leaks.
  • Never position oneself in pinch points without proper blocking, locking out, and tagging out.
  • Never "crack" a hydraulic fitting to release pressure.
  • Never tighten or loosen hydraulic components when the system is pressurized.
  • Never assume the system is depressurized.

Storage Tips:

To ensure longevity, the brush cutter should be free of debris, dirt, grime, and grease before storage. It should be stored in a dry shed or garage. For seasonal storage, covering the brush cutter with a weatherproof tarp is recommended to protect it from the elements.
