MEL Installation Instructions
SYSTEM OVERVIEW
The MEL-1 motor retraction system has been designed to work specifically with the NP-1
power supply. The MEL-1 and the NP-1 each contain a computer that is constantly monitoring
the status of the system. This communication is done using the RED and BLACK power wire
that runs in between the NP-1 power supply and the MEL-1 retraction mechanism

Installation Procedure

Remove End Cap Screws

Remove the two screws securing the bar end cap and slide the push bar away.

Replace End Cap

Lift off the old end cap, noting its orientation, and install the new one.

Secure Bar and Prepare Mechanism

Slide the bar back, secure with screws, and ensure set screws on the mechanism are backed out.

Connect Wire and Mount Motor

Connect the red/black wire to the PCB and slide the motor assembly into the exit device slots.

Final Positioning and Tightening

Position motor within 1/8 inch of bracket and tighten the two set screws to complete installation.
