The Aiphone DA-1MD is a two-wire electric lock door phone designed for residential or small office applications, providing basic communication and door release functionality.
Function Description
The DA-1MD serves as an indoor station for an intercom system, allowing occupants to communicate with visitors at the door and remotely unlock an electric door lock. Its primary functions include:
- Call Reception: When a visitor presses the call button at the door station, the DA-1MD rings to alert the occupant.
- Two-Way Communication: After lifting the handset, the occupant can engage in a two-way conversation with the visitor.
- Door Release: A dedicated "DOOR RELEASE" button allows the occupant to remotely unlock an electric door lock, granting access to the visitor.
- Service Button (Option): An additional "SERVICE" button is available for optional functions, though its specific use is not detailed in this manual.
- Call Tone Control: The unit features a call tone volume control, allowing users to adjust the loudness of the incoming call ring. An LED indicator lights up when the volume is set to the "MUTED" position, indicating that the call tone is off.
Important Technical Specifications
- Power Source: The unit operates on AC 15V, which is supplied from a separate power supply unit (not included with the DA-1MD itself).
- Ambient Temperature: The DA-1MD is designed to operate within a temperature range of 0°C to +40°C (32°F to 104°F).
- Dimensions: The physical dimensions of the unit are 200mm (H) x 89mm (W) x 63mm (D), which translates to approximately 7-7/8 inches (H) x 3-1/2 inches (W) x 2-1/2 inches (D).
- Weight: The unit weighs approximately 350g (0.77 lbs).
- System Compatibility: The DA-1MD is specifically designed for use with the PT-1211C, D, or DR system components. Using it with other devices is explicitly prohibited.
- Wiring: This is a two-wire system, and all wiring must be performed by qualified personnel due to its electrical nature.
Usage Features
The DA-1MD is designed for straightforward operation:
- Calling: To initiate a call (presumably to the door station, though the manual describes receiving calls), the user would depress and hold down the call button.
- Answering: When the call tone rings, the user lifts the handset to communicate with the visitor.
- Door Release: During communication, pressing the "DOOR RELEASE" button activates the electric door release mechanism.
- Call Tone Volume Adjustment: A slide control allows the user to adjust the call tone volume from "MUTED" (off) to "MID" or "HIGH." The "Call tone off LED" illuminates when the volume is in the "MUTED" position.
- Mounting: The unit should be mounted on a wall in a convenient location where it is unlikely to be bumped or jarred, to prevent injury.
Maintenance Features
- Cleaning: The unit can be cleaned with a soft cloth dampened with a neutral household cleanser. Abrasive cleaners or cloths should not be used.
- Repairs: In case of malfunction, the manual advises seeking a qualified technician for repairs. The warranty covers bench repairs only, and any repairs must be made at a shop or place designated in writing by Aiphone. On-site service calls are not covered by the warranty.
Important Precautions and Warnings
The manual emphasizes several critical safety and operational precautions:
- Electrical Safety: The device is electrical, and all wiring must be done by qualified personnel. Users are warned against dismantling, altering, or opening the unit's case, as this could lead to fire or electric shock.
- Water and Metal: The unit must be kept away from water or any other liquid to prevent fire or electric shock. No metal objects should be inserted into the unit's openings, as this could cause fire, electric shock, or unit malfunction.
- System Compatibility: Only PT-1211C, D, or DR components should be used with the DA-1MD system.
- Hearing Protection: Users are cautioned against manually holding down the hook switch to verify chime volume, as the sound can be very loud near the ears and cause hearing damage.
- Environmental Conditions: The unit should not be installed in locations subject to extreme temperatures (direct sunlight, near temperature-varying equipment, air conditioners, refrigerated areas), high moisture or humidity (bathrooms, cellars, greenhouses), harsh environmental conditions (dust, oil, chemicals, salt), constant vibration or impact, or near steam/smoke sources (heating appliances, cooking surfaces). These conditions can cause the system to malfunction.
- Power Surges: During electrical storms, the power supply should be unplugged from the AC outlet to prevent fire or electric shock.
- Power Failure: The system is not operational during a power failure.
- Radio Frequency Interference: In areas close to broadcasting station antennas, the intercom system may experience radio frequency interference.
