Function Description:
The Air Knight® system utilizes a PX5 core, which includes a UV lamp, to purify the air. It is installed within the ductwork of an HVAC system, after the air handler or furnace and prior to any branch duct takeoffs. The device is designed to integrate seamlessly into existing ductwork, providing continuous air purification as air flows through the system. The core technology involves a replaceable PX5 core with a UV lamp, which is crucial for its purification process. The system operates on AC 24V 50/60Hz power, utilizing an expanded range ballast. An operation indicator light on the face of the device confirms its active status.

Usage Features:
The Air Knight® system is designed for installation by qualified technicians only, in compliance with all national and local electrical and mechanical codes. Failure to adhere to this requirement will void the Dust Free® Warranty.
- Installation Location: The unit should be installed in the HVAC system after the air handler or furnace, and before any branch duct takeoffs. The ductwork around the installation area must be clean and dry to ensure proper adhesion of gasket materials.
- Ductwork Requirements: A minimum 8" x 8" area is required for installation. An approximate 4" opening needs to be cut into the existing ductwork.
- Airflow Orientation: Proper orientation of the unit is critical for effective airflow through the PX5 core. The device includes an airflow tag that must be removed before installation. The core should be oriented to allow air to flow freely through it in either horizontal or vertical airflow systems.
- Mounting: The mounting plate gasket is adhesive, allowing it to be centered over the opening and pressed onto the duct. Self-tapping screws further secure the mounting plate. The device is then inserted into the opening and secured with knurled nuts.
- Power Connection: The unit connects to a 24V auxiliary input from a power module, which is supplied by a 40Va transformer.
- Safety Switch: The system includes a safety switch as part of its components.
- Metal Ductwork Installation: For metal ducts, a 4" opening is marked using the mounting plate as a template. After cutting the opening, the mounting plate is secured with self-tapping screws, and the device is inserted and secured with knurled nuts.
- Fiberglass Ductwork Installation: For fiberglass ducts, the process is similar to metal ductwork, but 3" toggle bolts are used to attach the mounting plate.
- UV Lamp Indicator: An indicator light on the face of the unit glows when the UV lamp is in operation. If this light does not glow while the unit has power, it signifies that the PX5 core needs replacement.
Maintenance Features:
Regular maintenance is essential for optimal performance and includes the replacement of the PX5 core and UV lamp.
- PX5 Core and UV Lamp Replacement: For optimal performance, the PX5 core with the UV lamp should be replaced every 2 years, regardless of whether the UV lamp appears to be functioning normally. The replacement part numbers are TT-AKCELL-5 for the 5” model and TT-AKCELL-9 for the 9” model.
- Replacement Procedure:
- Disconnect the device from power.
- Remove the knurled nuts securing the device and detach the device from the core.
- Remove the screws securing the core.
- Remove the core from the device. If only changing the UV-C lamp, detach the lamp from the device.
- Dispose of the old core/lamp properly.
- Secure the new core or UV-C lamp to the device.
- Reverse the previous steps to return the device to operation.
- Disposal of PX5 Core and UV Lamp: Spent PX5 cores and UV lamps must be disposed of at a local recycling center. Alternatively, they can be sent back to Air Knight Reclamation at 1112 Industrial Drive, Royse City, TX 75189, preferably in the same container the replacement was received in.
- Mercury Content: The UV-C lamp contains a small amount of mercury. Users are warned not to break the lamp and to manage its disposal in accordance with disposal laws. Information on mercury disposal can be found at www.lamprecycle.org.
- Safety During Maintenance: When handling the device, especially during core or lamp replacement, it is crucial to disconnect power to avoid electric shock. Additionally, direct exposure to UV-C light should be avoided as it can cause serious eye and skin damage. UV-C eye and skin protection should be worn.
