Overview

This document describes the Airwell FOEN 16N and FOEN 20N dehumidifiers, providing operating instructions, maintenance guidelines, and troubleshooting information.

Function Description

The Airwell dehumidifier is designed to remove excess moisture from the air, helping to create a more comfortable and healthier indoor environment. It operates by drawing in humid air, passing it over a cooling agent to condense the moisture, and then discharging drier air back into the room. The collected water is stored in a removable tank or can be continuously drained using a hose.

Usage Features

Before First Use:

Before operating the dehumidifier, it is crucial to read and follow all instructions carefully. For future reference, record the model number and purchase date. The unit must always be used in an upright position due to the presence of a cooling agent. After unpacking, place the unit upright and wait 2 hours before use to allow the cooling agent to stabilize. The appliance should not be installed in the laundry room. It must be installed in accordance with national wiring regulations, ensuring the plug is accessible. If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or a qualified service agent to avoid hazards. Improper installation or use can damage the unit and invalidate the warranty.

Important Safeguards:

When using any electrically powered device, basic safety precautions must be followed. Always operate the product from a power source with the same voltage, frequency, and rating as indicated on the identification plate. Close supervision is necessary when the product is used by or near children or invalids, and children should not be allowed to use it as a toy. Do not operate the product with a damaged cord or plug, or if it malfunctions, is dropped, or appears damaged. Return the complete product to the place of purchase for inspection, repair, or replacement. Never connect the unit to a defective socket. To avoid tripping the circuit, do not use an extension cord for this unit. Ensure the unit is correctly connected before turning it on. Never lay the unit down while it is working and always keep it in an upright position to prevent damage. Switch off and unplug the unit from the outlet when not in use or before cleaning. To turn on the unit, always use the switch on the control panel. Never unplug the dehumidifier while it is working, as this could damage the electronic circuits. Do not place anything on top of the unit or cover it with any cloth while it is plugged in or in use. Do not place objects on the product or allow them to obstruct the inlet or outlet openings, or operate in close proximity to walls or curtains. The use of attachments or accessories not recommended or sold by the product distributor may cause personal or property hazards or injuries. Keep the area around the warm air outlet sufficiently clean and uncongested. Allow at least 500mm (20 inches) of air space on all sides of the unit for good air ventilation. Do not place the power cord under a carpet. Never install the unit in direct sunshine. Prevent children from climbing on the unit. This product is intended for normal domestic/household use only. Repairs should only be carried out by a competent service department.

Control Panel:

The control panel features a humidity control knob with "OFF" and "Continuous" settings. "OFF" switches the unit off, while "Continuous" allows the dehumidifier to run continuously. Indicators include a "Water Full" light, which illuminates when the water container is full, and a "Defrost" indicator, which lights up when the unit is defrosting or if the air filter is clogged.

Start Operation:

  1. Ensure the unit is connected to a power socket.
  2. Make sure the water tank is correctly positioned. If the "Water Full" lamp illuminates when the unit is first switched on, remove and re-position the tank.
  3. Turn the humidity control knob to the desired setting (NORMAL) or "Continuous" for continuous operation.
  4. The unit will shut down when turned to the "OFF" position.

Full Bucket Lamp:

The "Water Full" lamp illuminates when the water container is full. To empty the unit, first unplug it from the power source, then carefully remove the tank and empty the collected water. Replace the bucket carefully before switching the unit on again.

Defrost Lamp:

If the ambient temperature is too low, the unit will automatically start to defrost, and the "Defrost" light will illuminate. The defrost lamp will also illuminate if the air filter becomes clogged. The unit has a 3-minute lag due to a circuit protection device. To prolong the compressor's working life, the compressor will not start until 3 minutes after the unit has run. Do not use an extension cord or the same socket with other electrical appliances.

Continuous Drainage:

The unit has a continuous drainage port. A commercial hose (with an inner diameter of 14mm) can be used to continuously drain water from the drainage tank. Always stop operation and unplug the power supply before setting up continuous drainage.

  1. Disconnect the drainage tank and open the continuous drainage port. Use nippers or a similar tool to cut away the continuous drainage port in the side of the main unit.
  2. Push the hose into the continuous drainage port. Pass a commercial hose (with an inner diameter of 14mm) through the continuous drainage port, and press it firmly into the drainage port in the main unit, ensuring no water leaks. The drain piping should always be lower than the drainage port and not plugged up, so condensed water can drain successfully. When using continuous drainage, the PVC hose must be placed below the drainage hole. Avoid uneven surfaces and do not 'kink' the hose.

Maintenance Features

Before Cleaning:

Before cleaning the unit, always turn it off and unplug it from the outlet.

Exterior Surfaces of the Unit:

Clean the dehumidifier using a damp sponge and dry it with a clean, soft cloth. Never use alcohol or any product containing solvents. Do not immerse the unit in water.

Air Filters:

The air filters located inside the unit collect dust from the air. To prevent dust from clogging the unit, the dehumidifier must always be used with its air filters. Dust buildup reduces the efficiency of the dehumidifier. Therefore, the air filters must be cleaned every two weeks, and more often if the machine operates in a dusty atmosphere. If the filters are obstructed, the dehumidifier will be less efficient. To remove the filter, pull it upward and forward until it is free from the body of the unit. Clean the filters with a vacuum cleaner. If the filters are very dirty, they can be washed in warm water (never use hot or soapy water). Ensure the air filters are completely dry before putting them back on the unit. Do not bend the filters.

Long Term Storage:

At the end of the season, or when the unit will not be used for an extended period, follow these steps:

  1. Remove water from the water bucket. If a continuous drainage hose is connected, disconnect it.
  2. Disconnect the unit and wrap the power cord and plug.
  3. Clean the unit and store it, protecting it from dust.
  4. Store the unit in an upright position in a cool, dry place, away from sunshine.

Troubleshooting (Removing Breakdowns):

If the unit does not operate:

  • Check if the power supply cord is disconnected. Plug the power supply cord into the outlet.
  • Check if the "Water Full" lamp is blinking, indicating the tank is full or in the wrong position. Discard the water in the drainage tank and reposition the tank.
  • If the room temperature is above 38°C or below 2°C, the protection device is actuated, and the unit cannot start. In such cases, avoid using the dehumidifier.

If the dehumidifying function does not work:

  • Check if the air filter is clogged. Clean the air filter as instructed under "Caring for the dehumidifier."
  • Check if the air intake or discharge port is obstructed. Remove any obstructions.

If no air is discharged:

  • Check if the air filter is clogged. Clean the air filter as instructed.

If operation is noisy:

  • Check if the unit has been poorly installed, tilted, or is unsteady. Use the unit in a stable, sturdy location. Placing a cushion under the unit may help reduce operation noise.
  • Check if the air filter is clogged. Clean the air filter as instructed.

If the operation noise suddenly increases during use:

  • This is normal as the operation noise increases when the compressor is activated.

If the humidity does not drop:

  • Consider if the room is too big for the unit, if windows or doors are opened and closed frequently, or if there is a device in the room (such as a kerosene stove) emitting steam.

If very little or no dehumidifying takes place:

  • This happens if the temperature and/or humidity of the room is low.

If the discharged air smells musty when the unit is first used:

  • Because the temperature of the heat exchanger rises abruptly, an unusual or musty odor may be produced for a moment.

If the unit echoes:

  • This may occur if the unit is used in a room with wood flooring or in a small room.

If an unusual noise is heard in the main unit when operation is started or the operation mode is changed:

  • The refrigerant may make some sound until circulation stabilizes.

If there are some stains left in the drainage tank:

  • This is water left from the dehumidifying test conducted at the factory and does not indicate a problem.

If the unit can only run in laundry mode and the mode switch is ineffective:

  • When the temperature of the room is above 35°C, the protection device is actuated, so the unit can only run in LAUNDRY mode (the fan speed is high).

If the fan is running but the compressor does not work:

  • If the unit is started within 3 minutes after it stops, the protection device is actuated, and the compressor will start automatically after a delay of 3 minutes. Alternatively, the automatic defrosting operation may be activated, causing the compressor to stop.

If breakdowns persist after following these steps, or if other breakdowns occur, contact authorized service centers.
