Overview

This document is a Service and Training Manual for Suburban RV cooking appliances, specifically covering various models of 2 & 3 burner drop-in cooktops, slide-in cooktops, 17" & 22" ranges, and 17" & 22" ranges with built-in glass covers. It is intended for use by professional, qualified service technicians for product identification, troubleshooting, diagnosis, and information regarding warranty service claims.

Function Description:

The manual details the installation, operation, and maintenance of LP/Propane gas-fired cooking appliances designed for recreational vehicle (RV) use. These appliances provide cooking capabilities through top burners and, in the case of ranges, an oven. The cooktops are available in both conventional and sealed burner configurations, and some models include a built-in glass cover for aesthetic and functional purposes.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Gas Type: LP/Propane gas only. Conversion to natural gas is not permitted.
  • Gas Supply Pressure:
    • Minimum: 11" W.C.
    • Maximum: 14" W.C.
    • Regulator setting check: at least 1" W.C. above suggested manifold pressure.
  • Burner BTU Output Information:
    • Range-Top Burner:
      • Left and Right Rear: 6500 BTU
      • Center (High Output): 9000 BTU
    • Slide-In Cooktop:
      • Left and Right Rear: 6500 BTU
      • Center (High Output): 9000 BTU
    • Drop-In Cooktop (SDN 2): 6500 BTU
    • Drop-In Cooktop (SDN 3):
      • Left Front & Rear: 5200 BTU
      • Right: 6500 BTU
    • Oven Burner: 7100 BTU
  • Electrical Connection (for spark igniter models): Low Voltage 12 Volts D.C., circuit fitted with a safety fuse not higher than 3 amps.
  • Minimum Clearances to Combustible Materials (above and below counter):
    • Sides, Rear, and Bottom: 0"
    • Right Sidewall: 6" (for SCN3/SCNA3, SCS3/SCSA3, SRNA3, SRSA3)
    • Left Sidewall: 6" (for SCN3/SCNA3, SCS3/SCSA3, SRNA3, SRSA3)
    • Backwall: 9" (for SCN3/SCNA3, SCS3/SCSA3, SRNA3, SRSA3)
    • Minimum vertical distance to combustible material above cooking top: 24 inches (provided overhead construction does not extend 13 inches from rear wall).
    • UL and cUL certified with minimum top clearance of 19 1/2" to overhead combustible construction when installed with a range hood spaced a minimum of 1/4" from the construction.
  • Recommended Pan Size (for SDS2 Drop-In Cooktop):
    • Minimum: 6.25"
    • Maximum: 8.75"
  • Serial Number Format: Nine digits, with the first two indicating the year of manufacture and the next two indicating the week of the year.

Usage Features:

  • Ignition Systems: Models feature various ignition types including Match, Piezo, and Spark igniters. Spark igniters typically require a 1 AAA battery.
  • Burner Control: Knobs are used to control individual burners, with settings for "Lite / High Flame" and "Low Flame."
  • Oven Operation: Requires lighting an oven pilot before the main oven burner will operate. The oven thermostat is factory calibrated and not field adjustable.
  • Safety Warnings: Emphasizes the importance of proper ventilation, checking for gas leaks with soapy water (never an open flame), and ensuring control knobs are in the "OFF" position when not cooking.
  • Glass Cover: For models with a built-in glass cover (e.g., SDS2 Cooktop), the cover is NOT a cooking surface and MUST be in the full open position when any top burner is in operation. The top burner grate must cool before replacing the top cover.
  • Portable Countertop Installation (for Drop-In Cooktops): Specific guidelines are provided for portable countertop installations, including minimum weight support (20 lbs for the unit), maximum additional weight, surface material temperature rating (200°F continuous), and cooling requirements after use.

Maintenance Features:

  • Troubleshooting Guide: Comprehensive tables are provided for diagnosing common issues with ranges (oven door, range top, pilot light, main burner, baking results) and slide-in/drop-in cooktops (burner ignition, flame issues).
  • Component Replacement: Instructions are given for replacing burners, orifices, thermocouples, electrodes, valve and manifold assemblies, and batteries for spark igniters.
  • Cleaning: The manual implicitly suggests cleaning as part of normal maintenance, particularly for clogged burner ports.
  • Gas Leak Checks: Regular checks for gas leaks using a soapy-water solution are emphasized during installation and troubleshooting.
  • Burner Identification: Provides visual identification for BSI, Mueller, and SI-Current top burners, noting that they are not backwards compatible and may require replacing all three burners if a replacement is needed for older styles.
  • Warranty Information: A two-year limited warranty covers defects in material and workmanship under normal use. It outlines what is covered, how to obtain service, and what is not covered (e.g., normal maintenance, damage from improper installation, or abuse).
