Do you have a question about the Aiwa ICD-820DAB and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The AIWA ICD-820DAB is a 2-DIN 6.75” car multimedia player designed for modern vehicles, offering wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. This device, originating from AIWA CO., LTD. in Kita-Ku, Tokyo, Japan, is built on a SPHE8368-U Linux system and supports ten OSD languages, making it versatile for a global user base.

Function Description:

The ICD-820DAB serves as a central hub for in-car entertainment and connectivity. Its primary function is to provide a seamless smartphone integration experience through wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This allows users to access navigation, music, communication, and other apps directly from their smartphone, displayed on the unit's capacitive touchscreen.

Beyond smartphone integration, the device includes a built-in DAB tuner with a DAB antenna for digital radio reception, as well as FM/AM radio with RDS (Radio Data System) support. Bluetooth connectivity is also integrated, featuring an external microphone for hands-free calling and audio streaming. The unit supports USB playback for audio and video files, with two rear USB ports for CPAA and phone charging (1.5A). It also offers AV input and output options, including two RCA subwoofer outputs and two camera inputs (front and rear).

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Display: 6.75” fixed panel TFT LCD with 1024x600 pixel resolution.

  • USB Ports: 2 x rear USB for CPAA and phone charging (1.5A).
  • AV Inputs: 3 x RCA AV input.
  • Camera Inputs: 2 x camera input (front + rear).

  • Power Supply: 12-volt battery with negative grounding.
  • Fuse: 15A.

Usage Features:

The ICD-820DAB features a user-friendly interface with both physical buttons and a capacitive touchscreen.

  • Front Buttons: Include Mute/Screen Off, Volume Up/Down, Voice Assistant, Home/Power, and a System Reset pinhole.
  • Touchscreen Operation: The capacitive touchscreen is designed for smooth interaction, similar to high-end mobile devices. It requires dry fingers for optimal performance and should be cleaned with a dry microfiber cloth, avoiding harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
  • Date & Time Setup: Can be automatically set via a connected Apple CarPlay device or manually configured through the settings menu, including time zone.
  • Audio Settings: Offers an equalizer with preset options (Jazz, Hip-hop, Pop, Rock, R&B), balance/fader control, subwoofer level and filter adjustments (50 Hz, 80 Hz, 120 Hz, 160 Hz), and loudness enhancement. The internal amplifier can be turned off to reduce noise when using pre-amp outputs.
  • Display Settings: Illumination control for night use, gamma adjustment for day/night, screen brightness, and six preset LED touch button colors. Users can also customize the wallpaper by inserting a USB with photos.
  • Bluetooth Connectivity: Automatically connects to paired mobile devices within range when the product is powered on. Supports hands-free calling with phonebook and call history download, and BT audio streaming. CarPlay usage automatically disables the product's Bluetooth, with hands-free functions handled by CarPlay.
  • Camera Inputs: Supports both front and rear cameras, with an option to display images on demand. Parking assist guides can be enabled and adjusted if the rear-view camera doesn't have built-in guidelines. A rear-view delay feature (0, 0.1, 0.5, 1, or 2 seconds) can be set to prevent accidental triggering when shifting between Park and Drive.
  • Radio Functions: Includes AM/FM tuning with automatic search and store, station listing, stereo/mono selection, and LOC/DX options for local or distant broadcasting. DAB radio offers similar features with specific DAB settings.
  • Media Playback: Supports USB playback for music and video files. Media control includes play/pause, track forward/reverse, repeat all/one, and random playback. Video and photos cannot be viewed while driving for safety reasons, requiring the vehicle to be stationary with the parking brake applied.

Maintenance Features:

  • System Reset: A small pinhole button on the front panel allows for a system reset in case the processor freezes or the unit becomes unresponsive.
  • Factory Settings Restore: An option in the settings menu allows users to restore all settings to their default values.
  • Fuse Replacement: The device uses a 15A fuse, and replacements should always be of the same type and value.
  • Wiring Precautions: Unused input/output wires (speaker, power, SWC) should be insulated with tape, heat shrink, or crimp connectors to prevent shorts and noise.
  • Microphone Placement: Recommendations are provided for optimal microphone placement (rearview mirror, front panel, right side of steering wheel) to ensure clear hands-free call quality, avoiding air vents, steering column area (if tweeters are present), and sunroof openings to minimize wind noise. The microphone must be firmly attached and its front must not be blocked.
