Overview

The ALBRECHT DR 114 is a versatile DAB+ Camping Radio designed for outdoor use, offering a range of functionalities beyond just radio reception. It combines digital and analog radio, Bluetooth music streaming, and emergency features, all powered by an integrated rechargeable battery.

Function Description:

The primary function of the ALBRECHT DR 114 is to provide radio reception. It supports both DAB+ digital radio and FM analog radio modes. In DAB+ mode, users can access digital radio broadcasts, cycle through available stations, and save favorite stations. The DAB menu offers options to trim invalid stations, sort stations by name or frequency, adjust Dynamic Range Compression (DRC) to balance volume differences, and manually tune frequencies. For FM radio, it allows listening to analog broadcasts, with options to search for stations, manually set frequencies in 0.05 MHz steps, and save/recall favorite stations. The FM menu includes settings to restrict scans to strong stations only and to allow mono reception.

Beyond radio, the device features wireless music streaming via Bluetooth (Version 5.0, range 10m), enabling users to play audio from mobile devices. To activate Bluetooth, the mode button is pressed, and the device appears as "ALBRECHT DR 114" for pairing.

The DR 114 is equipped with several emergency functions. It includes an SOS emergency function that, when activated by a long press of the SOS button, plays a loud siren and flashes red and blue signal lights to alert people nearby. It also has an integrated torch and an emergency light function. The torch can be activated by pressing a dedicated button, and if the lantern is extended, the lantern light activates instead, with three different brightness levels.

The device also serves as a power bank, featuring a USB output (USB-A / 5.0 V; 2 A) to charge mobile devices.

Maintenance Features:

The ALBRECHT DR 114 offers multiple ways to charge its integrated battery, making it suitable for various situations, especially off-grid use.

  • USB-C Charging: The primary charging method using the supplied USB-C to USB-A cable. It connects to any sufficient power source like a wall adapter, PC, or laptop. The charging indicator blinks red while charging and turns solid red when full. Full charging takes approximately 4 hours.
  • Solar Panel: Located on the device, it recharges the radio when exposed to direct sunlight. It's crucial to avoid shading any part of the panel for optimal performance. Artificial light sources are generally insufficient for charging. One hour of solar charging can power the radio for about 20 minutes or the integrated torch for 1 hour.
  • Hand Crank: An extendable hand crank allows for manual recharging. Turning the crank at 120-150 rpm (2-2.5 times per second) for 1 minute can power the radio for about 3 minutes.

For protection against dirt and moisture, the cover for the USB-C charging port and USB output should be closed when not in use. The device has an IPX5 waterproof rating.

In case of software error, a hard reset can be performed by pressing the reset button located under the charging port cover.

Safety and Disposal:

  • Always ensure the charging port cover is closed to protect against moisture and humidity. Do not expose the device to water with uncovered charging ports.
  • Do not remove screws; the device contains no user-serviceable parts. Maintenance should be entrusted to qualified personnel.
  • Avoid extreme temperatures and heat sources.
  • Be aware that excessive sound pressure or high volume can damage hearing, especially with the emergency siren function.
  • Unplug the device from the charger before cleaning.
  • Batteries should not be thrown into fire and must be disposed of in recycling bins according to local laws, not in household waste, due to environmentally harmful chemicals.
