Overview

This document describes the Alcatel 1066 mobile phone, a compact device designed for basic communication and multimedia functions. It emphasizes ease of use, safety, and responsible handling.

General Information and Safety

The Alcatel 1066 is a mobile phone that prioritizes user safety and environmental responsibility. Users are advised to read the manual carefully to avoid damage from improper use. The manufacturer disclaims liability for damage resulting from use contrary to the instructions.

Traffic Safety: Using a mobile phone while driving, even with a hands-free kit, is considered a risk. Drivers are urged to avoid using their phone when the vehicle is in motion. Listening to music or radio with headphones while driving is also discouraged and may be forbidden in certain areas. When switched on, the phone emits electromagnetic waves that can interfere with vehicle electronic systems like ABS brakes or airbags. To prevent issues, the phone should not be placed on the dashboard or within an airbag deployment area. Users should consult their car dealer or manufacturer to ensure the dashboard is adequately shielded from mobile phone RF energy.

Conditions of Use: To optimize performance, it is recommended to switch off the phone periodically. The phone must be switched off before boarding an aircraft and in healthcare facilities, except in designated areas, as it can interfere with other electrical or electronic devices. It should also be switched off near gas or flammable liquids, strictly adhering to signs in fuel depots, petrol stations, or chemical plants. When on, the phone should be kept at least 15 cm away from medical devices like pacemakers, hearing aids, or insulin pumps. When using the phone, it should be held against the ear on the opposite side of any such device. To prevent hearing impairment, users should pick up calls before holding the phone to their ear and move the handset away from the ear when using "hands-free" mode due to amplified volume. Children should not use the phone or accessories without supervision. When replacing the cover, note that the phone may contain substances that could cause allergic reactions. The phone should always be handled with care and kept in a clean, dust-free place, protected from adverse weather or environmental conditions like moisture, humidity, rain, liquids, dust, or sea air. The recommended operating temperature range is -10°C (14°F) to +55°C (131°F). Above 55°C, the display's legibility may be impaired, though this is temporary. Emergency calls may not be reachable on all mobile networks, so users should not rely solely on their phone for emergencies.

Device Integrity: Users should not open, dismantle, or attempt to repair the mobile phone themselves. The phone should not be dropped, thrown, or bent. If the glass screen is damaged, cracked, or broken, the phone should not be used to avoid injury. Painting the phone is also discouraged. Only batteries, chargers, and accessories recommended by TCL Communication Ltd. and its affiliates should be used. TCL Communication Ltd. disclaims liability for damage caused by the use of other chargers or batteries. Users are reminded to back up important information stored on their phone.

Epilepsy and Flashing Lights: Some individuals may experience epileptic seizures or blackouts when exposed to flashing lights or playing video games, even without a prior history. If such symptoms occur, users should consult a doctor before playing games or enabling flashing-lights features. Parents should monitor children's use of features with flashing lights. If symptoms like convulsion, eye or muscle twitching, loss of awareness, involuntary movements, or disorientation occur, discontinue use and consult a doctor. To minimize risk, users should avoid playing or using flashing-lights features when tired, take 15-minute breaks hourly, play in a well-lit room, and maintain distance from the screen. If hands, wrists, or arms become tired or sore, stop playing and rest. If soreness persists, consult a doctor. Playing games can cause discomfort in hands, arms, shoulders, neck, or other body parts; follow instructions to avoid musculoskeletal disorders.

Hearing Protection: To prevent hearing damage, avoid listening at high volume levels for long periods. Exercise caution when holding the device near the ear while the loudspeaker is in use.

Privacy: Users must respect laws and regulations regarding taking photographs and recording sounds with their mobile phone. It may be forbidden to record voices or personal attributes of others, as this could be an invasion of privacy. Users are solely responsible for obtaining prior authorization if needed. The manufacturer, seller, or operator disclaim liability for improper use.

Battery: The product's battery is not charged upon purchase due to air regulations and must be charged first. Before removing the battery, ensure the phone is switched off. The battery should not be opened, punctured, disassembled, or short-circuited. It should not be burned or disposed of in household rubbish or stored above 60°C (140°F). Batteries must be disposed of according to local environmental regulations, only for their intended purpose. Damaged or unrecommended batteries should not be used. The phone, battery, and accessories bear a symbol indicating they must be taken to collection points at the end of their life for recycling. In the EU, these collection points are free. In non-EU jurisdictions, items with this symbol should be taken to suitable recycling facilities. CAUTION: Risk of explosion if battery is replaced by an incorrect type. Dispose of used batteries according to instructions.

Chargers: Mains powered chargers operate within 0°C (32°F) to 45°C (113°F). Chargers meet safety standards for information technology equipment and office use and comply with the ecodesign directive 2009/125/EC. Due to different electrical specifications, a charger purchased in one jurisdiction may not work in another and should only be used for its intended purpose.

Radio Waves: The phone complies with international standards (ICNIRP) or European Directive 2014/53/EU (RED) for radio wave exposure. It is designed not to exceed limits for radio frequency electromagnetic fields. The Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) limit for mobile devices is 2.0 W/kg. Body-worn SAR testing is carried out at a 5 mm separation distance. To meet RF exposure guidelines, the device should be positioned at least this distance from the body. Approved accessories or metal-free products should be used to maintain this distance. Organizations like the World Health Organization and the US Food and Drug Administration suggest using hands-free devices or reducing phone call duration to minimize exposure. The phone has a built-in antenna; avoid touching or degrading it for optimal operation. When used in positions other than against the ear, the device complies with guidelines when used with a headset or USB data cable. If using another accessory, ensure it is metal-free and positions the phone at least 5 mm from the body.

Data Privacy: By using the device, some personal data may be shared with the main device. Users are responsible for protecting their personal data and not sharing it with unauthorized devices. The product can store personal information on a SIM card, memory card, and built-in memory. All personal information should be removed or cleared before recycling, returning, or giving away the product. Data shared with TCL Communication Ltd. is stored in accordance with applicable data protection legislation, with appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect personal data against unauthorized or unlawful processing and accidental loss or destruction.
