Function Description

The ATHENA 870-BL EVO is a self-propelled elevating work platform designed to lift personnel and equipment for various professional tasks, including gardening, general work, system installation, cleaning, painting, and paint removal. It features a work platform assembly, a scissor assembly for lifting, and a tank and chassis assembly. The machine can be controlled from a push-button panel (console) located on the work platform or a removable mobile push-button panel for ground control during transport. Ground controls on the rear side are for emergency use or maintenance by qualified personnel.

Usage Features

  • Control: The main control is from the work platform console. A removable push-button panel allows ground control for transport.
  • Travel Modes:
    • Standard Travel Mode: Allows separate control of tracks using two joysticks. Speed can be adjusted (Turtle for idling, Hare for accelerated rate).
    • Easy-Drive System (ED-S): Activates a special function for controlled steering, especially on cultivated or grassy terrain, by controlling both tracks at different speeds. Counter-rotation is not enabled.
    • Direct-Control System (DC-S): Allows movement in a straight trajectory using only the right joystick, without needing to correct direction with the other joystick.
  • Levelling: Equipped with an automatic levelling system using hydraulic cylinders to maintain the platform horizontal within ± 0.5° longitudinally and laterally. Manual levelling is also possible below transport height.
  • Proactive Levelling: Active up to a platform floor height of 4.5 m (6.5 m work height) to correct machine levelling when at height, even after traveling on uneven ground.
  • Work Platform Extension: The platform can be extended to increase the work area.
  • Easy-Access System: Facilitates access to the work platform by automatically widening tracks and tilting backwards when the platform is fully lowered.
  • Emergency Stop: Mushroom-shaped buttons on the console and ground controls provide immediate stop functionality.
  • Emergency Descent: A wire emergency control at ground level allows for manual descent in case of electrical or hydraulic failure.
  • Hand Pump: For emergency lifting if the engine or operating systems are not functional.
  • Wind Speed: Forbidden to use if wind speed exceeds 12.5 m/s (Beaufort scale 6).
  • Ground Conditions: Movements should be on flat, sturdy ground. Avoid smooth, slippery, icy, or sand-covered surfaces. Do not change direction on kerbs, rocks, or significant level differences.
  • Loads: All loads must be positioned inside the work platform. Never lift loads hanging from the platform or railings. Forbidden to transport large slabs or materials that increase wind resistance.

Maintenance Features

  • Manual Availability: The manual must be kept in a protected compartment on the work platform for easy access.
  • Trained Personnel: Servicing personnel must be properly trained and experienced.
  • Regular Checks: Daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, annually, and after long periods of inactivity, various visual and functional checks are required, including:
    • Oil and fuel leak checks.
    • Hydraulic hose and electrical cable integrity.
    • Screw, bolt, and ferrule tightness.
    • Seeger safety ring presence.
    • Pin security.
    • Steel structure deformation and weld cracks.
    • Track wear and tension.
    • Scissor runner greasing.
    • Engine oil and fuel levels.
    • Battery charge.
    • Gate closing and locking mechanism.
    • Overload monitoring device.
    • Manual emergency devices.
    • 230V outlet differential.
    • Proactive levelling angle sensor and redundancy valves.
    • Fuses.
    • Maximum pressure valve.
    • Main system angle sensors.
    • Electrical insulation monitoring device (if present).
  • Greasing: Runners and nylon wheels of the platform extension require regular greasing with PAKELO BEARING EP 2 or equivalent.
  • Hydraulic Oil: Check level with the machine in specific configurations (wide tracks, platform on safety supports). Hydraulic reservoir oil change is required periodically.
  • Filters: Discharge and suction filters in the hydraulic tank need replacement.
  • Track Replacement: Tracks must be replaced if tread is 10 mm or less, or if cuts/tears are present. This requires specialized personnel and specific procedures for tensioning.
  • Engine Maintenance: Follow general instructions and consult the engine's specific manual for oil changes, filter replacements, and other engine-related maintenance.
  • Battery Maintenance: Batteries are maintenance-free type. Recharge in ventilated areas, keep away from open flames, protect terminals, and dispose of according to regulations.
  • Demolition: At the end of its life, the machine must be decommissioned and demolished by properly trained personnel, following safety measures and recycling raw materials.
