Overview

The KTA-30MW is a car audio amplifier designed to enhance your in-car sound system, offering flexible input options and precise audio control. It is a compact and efficient device, ideal for users looking to upgrade their vehicle's audio without extensive modifications.

Function Description

The primary function of the KTA-30MW is to amplify audio signals for a subwoofer, delivering powerful and clear bass. It supports both RCA input signals and speaker-level input signals, making it compatible with a wide range of head units, from aftermarket stereos to factory-installed systems. The amplifier features a dedicated subwoofer output, ensuring that your subwoofer receives the optimal signal for performance.

It incorporates several adjustable controls to fine-tune the audio output. These include an input gain adjustment to match the amplifier's input sensitivity with the head unit's output, a subsonic filter to remove ultra-low frequencies that can cause distortion and waste power, and a bass EQ adjustment to boost or cut bass frequencies according to your preference. Additionally, a low-pass filter with adjustable cutoff frequency allows you to control the range of frequencies sent to the subwoofer, ensuring a seamless blend with your main speakers.

The KTA-30MW also includes a remote turn-on feature, allowing it to power on automatically with your head unit. For speaker-level inputs, it offers a "REMOTE SENSING" function that can detect an incoming audio signal and turn on the amplifier without a dedicated remote turn-on lead. This feature simplifies installation in vehicles where a remote turn-on wire is not readily available. An optional RUX-KNOB can be connected for convenient remote control of the subwoofer level.

Usage Features

The KTA-30MW is designed for straightforward installation and operation. Its compact size allows for flexible mounting options within the vehicle.

Input Options:

  • RCA Input Jacks: For head units with RCA line outputs, simply connect RCA extension cables (sold separately) to the amplifier's RCA input jacks (FRONT=Grey sleeve, REAR=Violet sleeve). This is the default setting for optimal signal quality.
  • Speaker Level Inputs: If your head unit lacks RCA outputs, you can connect the speaker outputs directly to the amplifier's twisted pair wires. This involves cutting off the RCA jacks and splicing the speaker wires to the corresponding inputs. It's recommended to connect both LEFT and RIGHT input signals for proper bass sound, as these inputs are summed to a MONO signal for the subwoofer.

Connection Guidelines:

  • Power Connection: The red battery lead should be connected directly to the positive (+) terminal of the vehicle's battery, with a 30A fuse (sold separately) installed as close to the battery as possible.
  • Ground Connection: The black ground lead must be securely connected to a clean, bare metal spot on the vehicle's chassis. Ensure continuity between this point and the negative (-) terminal of the vehicle's battery to prevent ground loops.
  • Subwoofer Output: Connect the positive output (+) to the positive subwoofer terminal and the negative output (-) to the negative subwoofer terminal.
  • Remote Turn-On: For RCA inputs, connect the blue/white remote turn-on lead to the remote turn-on or power antenna (positive trigger, (+) 12V only) lead of your head unit. When using speaker-level inputs, the "REMOTE SENSING" function may eliminate the need for a dedicated remote turn-on lead, but if it doesn't work with your specific signal source, a connection to an accessory power wire is recommended.
  • Remote Out Lead: The blue remote out lead can be used to turn on additional amplifiers in your system, acting as a pass-through signal from the head unit.

Audio Adjustment Controls:

  • Input Gain Adjustment: This control allows you to match the amplifier's input sensitivity to your head unit's output level. To set it, start with the amplifier gain at minimum, increase the head unit volume until output distorts, then reduce the volume by one step. Finally, increase the amplifier gain until the sound distorts, then slightly reduce it for optimal gain.
  • Subsonic Adjustment Control: Adjust this filter within the range of 5-40Hz to remove inaudible low frequencies that can strain the subwoofer and amplifier.
  • Bass EQ Adjustment Control: This control allows you to boost or cut bass frequencies within the range of 0-12dB, tailoring the bass response to your preference.
  • Filter Selector Switches: A switch allows you to turn the low-pass filter OFF or ON.
  • Filter Frequency Adjustment Control: When the low-pass filter is ON, this control adjusts the filter cutoff frequency within the range of 50-400Hz, determining which frequencies are sent to the subwoofer.

Noise Prevention:

  • Route the unit and leads at least 10 cm (3-15/16") away from the car harness.
  • Keep battery power leads as far away from other leads as possible.
  • Connect the ground lead securely to a bare metal spot on the car chassis, ensuring paint or grease is removed.

Maintenance Features

The KTA-30MW is designed for reliability and minimal maintenance.

  • Secure Connections: Regularly check all connections to ensure they are secure and free from corrosion. Loose connections can lead to intermittent performance or damage.
  • Cleanliness: Keep the unit clean and free from dust and debris. Avoid exposing it to excessive moisture or extreme temperatures.
  • Fuse Protection: The external 30A fuse on the battery lead protects the amplifier and vehicle's electrical system from overcurrents. If the amplifier stops working, check this fuse first. Always replace it with a fuse of the correct rating.
  • Professional Consultation: If you experience persistent issues or require complex troubleshooting, it is recommended to consult an authorized Alpine dealer or a qualified car audio technician. They can provide expert advice on noise prevention measures and system optimization.
  • Avoid Self-Repair: Do not attempt to open or repair the unit yourself, as this can void the warranty and potentially cause further damage.
  • Warranty Information: The product comes with a limited warranty covering defects in materials or workmanship for one year from the date of purchase. Ensure you retain proof of purchase for warranty claims. Registering your product online can also provide updates and support.
