Overview

This document describes a range of Amica refrigerator-freezers, specifically models FK196.4, FK198.4, and FK197.4. It serves as an instruction manual, providing guidelines for safety, installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Function Description

The Amica refrigerator-freezers are designed for household use, primarily for food storage. They feature separate refrigerator and freezer compartments, allowing for both fresh food preservation and long-term freezing. The appliance operates by maintaining specific temperature zones within its chambers to ensure optimal food freshness and storage duration. Some models may include an Anti-bacteria System to protect food from bacteria and mold, thus prolonging freshness and preventing unpleasant odors. The freezer compartment is designed to freeze fresh food and store already frozen products. Ice cubes can also be prepared and stored within the freezer.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Power Supply: AC 220-240V 50Hz. The socket must be properly fitted with an earthing conduit and a 10A fuse.
  • Refrigerant: Contains isobutane/R600a. The room size for an appliance containing this refrigerant must be at least 4m³ to avoid damage to the cooling system.
  • Temperature Control: Features a thermostat knob with settings from "OFF/0" (switched off) to "7" (minimum temperature). Optimal temperature is typically achieved at settings 2-6.
  • Light Bulb (where applicable): E14 thread, 220-240V, max 10W, with maximum dimensions of diameter 26 mm and length 55 mm.
  • Climate Range: The appliance is designed to operate optimally within specific ambient temperature ranges:
    • SN: from +10°C to +32°C
    • N: from +16°C to +32°C
    • ST: from +16°C to +38°C
    • T: from +16°C to +43°C
  • Freezer Capacity: Declared freezer capacity is calculated with drawers removed, indicating that drawers can be removed to increase storage space without affecting mechanical properties or cooling performance.

Usage Features

  • Temperature Adjustment: The thermostat knob allows users to adjust the temperature in both the fridge and freezer compartments. It is recommended not to change settings frequently due to seasonal changes, as the appliance's sensor will automatically adjust compressor operation to maintain set temperatures.
  • Food Storage Guidelines:
    • Food should be placed on plates, in containers, or packed in food wrap and distributed evenly on shelves.
    • Avoid contact between food and the rear wall to prevent frosting or wetting.
    • Strong-smelling foods (e.g., fish, smoked meat, hard cheese) should be packed in sealed containers.
    • Vegetables should be dried before storage to prevent condensation and prolong shelf life.
    • Do not wash vegetables before storing.
    • For freezing, use high-quality food, divided into small portions, and packed in odor-resistant, air- and moisture-proof materials (plastic bags, polyethylene, aluminum sheets). Do not use glass containers.
    • Keep fresh and warm food away from already frozen products.
  • Optimizing Refrigerator Efficiency:
    • Avoid placing the appliance near heat sources or in direct sunlight.
    • Ensure air vents are clear and clean them regularly.
    • Maintain optimal temperatures (6-8°C in the refrigerator, -18°C in the freezer).
    • Open doors only when necessary and return food quickly.
    • Regularly wipe the inside with a mild detergent.
    • Keep door seals clean and replace broken ones.
  • Storage Zones: The refrigerator has different temperature zones due to natural air circulation. The coldest area is above the vegetable drawers, suitable for delicate and highly perishable foods. The warmest area is the top section of the door, suitable for butter and cheese.
  • Increased Freezer Space: Drawers in the freezer can be removed to place food directly on shelves, maximizing storage capacity.

Maintenance Features

  • Cleaning:
    • Always disconnect the appliance from the mains before cleaning.
    • Do not use solvents or strong, abrasive detergents. Use mild liquid detergents and soft cloths.
    • Clean the interior surfaces, door gasket, and all accessories (vegetable containers, door shelves, glass shelves).
    • Ensure cleaning water does not flow into the evaporation container.
  • Defrosting the Refrigerator (Automatic): Frost on the rear wall is removed automatically. The condensate drains, and if the opening clogs, it should be unclogged with the cleaning plug.
  • Defrosting the Freezer (Manual):
    • Recommended to combine with washing.
    • Defrost at least once or twice a year, or more frequently if ice builds up excessively.
    • Before defrosting, set the knob to max. position for about 4 hours to ensure food remains frozen longer.
    • Remove food, wrap it, and store it in a cool place.
    • Leave the door open, or place a pot of hot (not boiling) water inside to speed up defrosting.
    • Do not use electric heaters, heating fans, or hair dryers for defrosting.
    • Wipe the interior dry before switching the appliance back on.
  • Automatic Freezer Defrosting (No-Frost models): In these models, the freezer chamber is equipped with an automatic defrosting function where cooled air circulates, and moisture is discharged outside, preventing ice and frost buildup.
  • Light Bulb Replacement:
    • Set the knob to "OFF" and unplug the appliance.
    • Remove the bulb cover (Fig. 18).
    • Replace the bulb with one of identical specifications.
    • Replace the bulb cover.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides a comprehensive troubleshooting guide for common issues such as the appliance not working, lighting failure, inadequate temperature, continuous operation, water collection, and unusual noise. It suggests possible causes and remedies.
  • Sounds During Operation: Normal operation may produce sounds from the thermostat, compressor, and cooling system (thermal expansion/contraction). Preventable sounds (e.g., from uneven leveling, touching furniture, creaking drawers, clinking bottles) can be addressed by adjusting the appliance or its contents.
