Question and Answer IconNeed help?

Do you have a question about the AmpliVox SW800L and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The AmpliVox SW800 is a portable, battery-powered PA system designed for various sound reinforcement applications. It features a robust design with an adjustable pull-out handle and wheels for easy transport, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. The system integrates multiple audio input options, wireless microphone capabilities, and a built-in media player, offering comprehensive functionality for presentations, events, and performances.

Function Description

The core function of the SW800 is to amplify sound, providing clear and powerful audio output through its 8-inch full-range speaker. It is primarily battery-powered, utilizing two 12-volt rechargeable sealed lead-acid (SLA) batteries, which are user-accessible and replaceable. The unit can also operate and charge via an auto-sensing 100-240V AC input, ensuring versatility in power sources.

The system includes a 16-channel UHF wireless receiver, allowing for wireless microphone use. It supports both bodypack transmitters and handheld microphones, providing freedom of movement for the presenter or performer. The wireless receiver has its own power/volume control and a channel display, enabling users to select and match frequencies with their transmitters.

A built-in media player supports CD, USB, and SD card playback, making it easy to play pre-recorded audio. This media player features controls for play/pause, stop, skip tracks, folder navigation, and pitch control, allowing for flexible audio management. Additionally, a Bluetooth module is integrated, enabling wireless streaming of audio from compatible devices such as smartphones or tablets. The Bluetooth module includes controls for linking, play/pause, language selection for pairing instructions, and volume adjustment.

For wired connections, the SW800 offers multiple inputs: two 1/4" and RCA audio inputs for connecting external devices like MP3 players, portable tape players, or CD players, and two XLR/1/4" combo jacks for balanced or unbalanced microphones. Each microphone input has its own volume control, and an echo effect can be applied to enhance vocal performances. A microphone priority switch is also available, which automatically lowers background music when a microphone is in use.

The system provides audio control knobs for adjusting volume, bass, and treble, allowing users to fine-tune the sound output to suit their environment and preferences. A 1/4" line out jack is included for connecting to outboard processors, musical instruments, or recorders, expanding the system's integration capabilities.

Usage Features

The SW800 is designed for user-friendly operation. To power on the unit, a rocker switch is located on the control panel. Battery status is indicated by a series of LED lights: a red LED signifies no battery power, while four green LEDs indicate a fully charged battery, with each green LED representing approximately 25% of the charge.

For wireless microphone setup, users must turn on the wireless receiver and select a channel that matches the transmitter. The bodypack transmitter and handheld microphone each have a channel selector switch (1-16) and require two "AA" batteries. The bodypack also features a lapel microphone and a headset microphone for different user preferences.

The media player's operation is straightforward. CDs are inserted with the label side up, and the unit's mechanism pulls the disc in. USB drives and SD cards can be inserted into their respective slots for MP3 playback. The remote control, which operates the media player from up to 50 feet away (line of sight), provides comprehensive control over playback functions, including power, play/pause, stop, skip, random play, repeat, mute, eject, intro scan, volume, and speed/pitch control.

The Bluetooth module is activated by pressing and holding the "LINK" button for four seconds to enter pairing mode. Blue and red LEDs flash during the search, and voice prompts guide the user through the pairing process. Once paired, the blue LED remains steady.

The SW800 also includes a "AA" battery charger for wireless microphone transmitters, located within a storage compartment on the unit. This compartment also serves as storage for the wireless bodypack and remote control.

Maintenance Features

Proper maintenance is crucial for extending the lifespan of the SW800, particularly its SLA batteries. AmpliVox recommends keeping the system plugged in and charging when not in use. For long-term storage (over one month), disconnecting the SLA batteries is advised to prevent gradual discharge. Batteries should always be stored in a charged condition and never allowed to drop below 10V. A topping charge every six months is recommended for stored batteries. Avoiding repeated deep discharges and operating at elevated ambient temperatures will significantly prolong battery life.

The "BATT STAT" indicator provides immediate feedback on battery status: red means no power, yellow indicates approximately one hour of remaining power, and green LEDs show the charge level. Overnight charging is recommended for best results.

If the unit does not power on when plugged into AC, users should check the fuse located in the AC jack. The fuse can be replaced with a 10A/250V fuse using a flat blade screwdriver. If the unit still does not power on after fuse replacement, AmpliVox customer service should be contacted.

Cleaning the device should be done with a soft, dry cloth, avoiding benzene, paint-thinner, or other chemicals. For troubleshooting audio issues like muffled sound, feedback, or weak microphone signals, users are advised to check volume levels, microphone placement, battery status, and cable connections. For wireless microphone issues, ensuring matching channels, charged batteries, and line of sight between transmitter and receiver is important. If buzzing noise occurs, checking cables for damage and using a ground loop isolator are recommended.

The manual also emphasizes that only qualified service personnel should attempt repairs or modifications to the device to avoid voiding the warranty and potential electric shock.
