Overview

The AMT P2 - Legend Amps is a two-channel guitar preamp designed to deliver both clean and overdriven guitar tones, embodying the aggressive sound profile reminiscent of high-gain amplifiers like the Peavey 5150/6505. This preamp is part of the LA-2 series, which emphasizes the concept of "your sound in your pocket," providing a bright and rich tube-style overdrive sound from a low-voltage (9V) power supply with low current consumption.

Function Description

The P2 preamp offers two distinct channels: a clean channel and an overdrive channel. The clean channel is universal across all models in the LA-2 series and delivers a sound characteristic of classic Fender amplifiers. The overdrive channel, on the other hand, is designed to produce a highly saturated tone, rich in harmonics, akin to the preamp section of renowned high-gain amplifiers.

A key feature of the LA-2 series, including the P2, is its versatile output options. It provides three independent outputs that can be used simultaneously without affecting each other's performance. These outputs allow for:

  • Direct connection to a power amplifier driving a guitar speaker.
  • Connection to the "clean" channel of a guitar combo amp or another guitar amplifier.
  • Direct connection to a mixing console.

When operating as an effect, the P2 utilizes an "active bypass" system. This gentle bypass minimizes the need for long cables and preserves the instrument's original sound when the effect is switched off.

Usage Features

The P2 preamp features a straightforward control panel with a minimal number of controls, making it easy to use. Channel selection is primarily determined by the sensitivity of the OD. GAIN controller for the drive channel and the Clean Mid-Boost switch for the clean channel. The overall sensitivity of the drive channel corresponds to the sensitivity of the emulated overdrive.

The drive channel's tone can be shaped using the TREBLE, MIDDLE, and BASS regulators, which adjust the upper, middle, and lower frequencies, respectively. When the unit is operating in bypass mode, the OD. GAIN switch and Clean Mid-Boost controls do not affect the sound.

Output levels are managed by the OD. LEVEL regulator for the drive channel and the CL. LEVEL regulator for the clean channel. The standard output level is -10dB at the 13-hour position. The output level can reach up to +8 dB at maximum control, which can be used to overload the input circuit of a combo amplifier or an additional output amplifier if desired.

For power, the P2 requires a stable power supply. It is recommended to use either a 9V 6F22 (Krone) battery or a high-quality AC/DC adapter that meets the specified requirements.

Connecting the Preamp:

  • Ensure all audio connections are made before connecting the power adapter.
  • Before connecting the power adapter, inspect the case, connection cable, and plug for any damage (cuts, cracks, dents).
  • Insert the low-voltage connector of the adapter into the jack on the right panel of the preamp, then plug the adapter into a wall outlet.

Disconnecting the Preamp:

  • First, disconnect the AC adapter from the power outlet.
  • Then, disconnect the low-voltage connector from the jack on the right-hand panel of the preamp.

Important Usage Considerations:

  • Always ensure that volume knobs are turned to the left (counter-clockwise) before switching on the unit to prevent potential damage to hearing or speaker systems. Moderate volume is always recommended.
  • Operation near powerful radio transmitters or high-frequency sources can degrade sound quality. In such cases, increasing the distance between the preamp and the transmitter and using shielded cables for all connections is advised.
  • The device is designed with sufficient ventilation to prevent overheating. Do not cover it or place it near heating radiators.

Maintenance Features

The AMT P2 is designed for durability, but proper maintenance is crucial for its longevity and performance.

General Maintenance:

  • To clean the unit, always unplug the appliance and its power adapter first, then use a dry cloth.
  • Avoid installing the unit near any heat sources or exposing it to direct sunlight.
  • Ensure the power cord is placed to prevent it from being stepped on and to avoid contact with sharp corners. If a plug or socket adapter is used for disconnection from the network, ensure it is easily accessible.
  • Only use attachments and accessories recommended by the manufacturer.
  • During thunderstorms, unplug the AC adapter (if using one).
  • If the device will not be used for a long time, remove the battery from its case.

Storage and Transport:

  • To prevent damage during storage and transport, always use the original packaging.
  • Do not allow children to play with the packaging.
  • Dispose of all packaging materials in an environmentally friendly manner.
  • If the product has been transported or stored in freezing temperatures, allow it to reach room temperature in its original packaging for at least 2 hours before turning it on.

Repair and Service:

  • WARNING: The device contains no user-serviceable parts. All repairs must be performed by qualified service personnel.
  • Do not attempt any repair work not described in the instruction manual. Unauthorized repairs will void the warranty.
  • These service instructions are specifically for qualified personnel.

Adhering to these instructions will help ensure the safe operation and long-term performance of your AMT P2 - Legend Amps preamp.
