Overview

The Andis CLC-5 is a cordless clipper designed for household use, offering a blend of precision, convenience, and durability. This device is engineered with a focus on user safety and ease of maintenance, making it a reliable tool for personal grooming.

Function Description

The Andis CLC-5 is a versatile hair clipper primarily used for cutting and trimming hair. It operates wirelessly, providing freedom of movement during use, and can also be used with an adapter cord if the battery is low or for continuous operation. The clipper features an adjustable blade set, allowing for various cutting lengths, and is compatible with attachment combs for different styles and lengths. An integrated display provides crucial information such as battery life, oil blade reminders, and travel lock status, enhancing user experience and ensuring optimal performance.

Important Technical Specifications

The CLC-5 clipper is powered by a lithium-ion battery, known for its long life and consistent power output. The battery life is displayed as a percentage on the clipper's screen, indicating the remaining charge. It is designed to be charged using a universal AC/DC power adapter, which can accommodate various voltage standards (120V AC outlet or 240V supply) depending on the region. The clipper's blade is made of durable material, designed for precision cutting. The device dimensions are 7.2"W x 5.1"H (flat size), 3.6"W x 5.1"H (folded size), and 3.4"W x 4.75"H (min size), making it compact and portable. The clipper is equipped with a travel lock feature, which prevents accidental activation during transport.

Usage Features

The CLC-5 is designed for straightforward operation. Before first use, it is recommended to fully charge the clipper. To turn on the clipper, the power button must be pressed for three seconds. To turn it off, the power button should be pressed for three seconds again, or until the clipper turns off. The blade can be easily removed and installed for cleaning or replacement. The clipper's adjustable blade set allows users to select desired cutting lengths by pressing the shift key and then the length setting button. For longer cuts, attachment combs can be snapped onto the blade. The clipper's display provides real-time feedback, including a "Charge Icon" that blinks red when the unit is plugged in and charging, turning solid white when fully charged. An "Oil Blade Reminder" will turn on after 30 minutes of usage, indicating that the blade needs to be cleaned and oiled. The travel lock feature is activated by pressing and holding the power button for three seconds until the white lock symbol appears, and deactivated by repeating the process. This prevents accidental power-on during travel. The clipper is not designed for use by persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety. Children should be supervised to ensure they do not play with the appliance.

Maintenance Features

Proper maintenance is crucial for the longevity and performance of the Andis CLC-5 clipper. The internal mechanism of the clipper motor has been permanently lubricated, so no further maintenance is required in that area. However, the blades require regular oiling and cleaning. After each use, it is recommended to brush off any loose hair from the blades. The oil blade reminder on the display will prompt users when to oil the blades. To oil the blades, a few drops of Andis Clipper Oil should be applied to the front and sides of the cutter blades (Figure E). Excess oil should be wiped off with a soft dry cloth. Spray lubricants are not a substitute for good lubrication. Blades should be oiled before, during, and after each use to prevent rust and ensure smooth operation. If the clipper leaves streaks or slows down, it's a sign that the blades need oil. For thorough cleaning, the blade set can be removed (Figure C) and cleaned with a small brush or worn-out toothbrush. After cleaning, the blade set should be reinstalled (Figure D). The clipper should be stored in a cool, dry place. When replacing blades, only use Andis Blade Care Plus or Andis Cool Care Plus and then Andis Clipper Oil. The clipper should never be immersed in water or other liquids. For any issues beyond routine maintenance, it is recommended to contact Andis customer support or an authorized service station. The lithium-ion battery should be disposed of responsibly according to local regulations, as it is recyclable.
