Overview

The ANTSIG Digital TV Signal Meter, model AP9000-BUN, is a portable device designed to assist in aligning a digital TV aerial for optimal reception. Its primary function is to measure and display the strength of a digital TV signal, allowing users to accurately tune their TV's antenna.

Function Description:

The signal meter connects directly to your aerial and provides a visual indication of signal strength through a series of green LEDs. This allows for real-time feedback during aerial adjustment, simplifying the process of finding the best signal. The device is intended to help users achieve the best digital reception with minimal fuss by guiding them to the strongest signal direction.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Frequency Range: 40-862 MHz
  • Input Level: 50-90 dBμV
  • Power Requirement: 5VDC, 40mA
  • External Power Source: 5-12VDC (via a 3.5 mm jack plug, adapter not supplied)
  • Battery Type: 9V Size (Extra Heavy Duty type supplied)

Usage Features:

  • Signal Strength Indication: The meter features five green LEDs that illuminate to indicate signal power values: 50dBμV, 60dBμV, 70dBμV, and 80dBμV. The more LEDs that are lit, the stronger the signal.
  • Power Source Flexibility: The unit can be powered by a supplied 9V battery, which is installed in a battery carrier at the rear of the device. Alternatively, it can be powered by an external 5-12V DC adapter (not supplied) with a 3.5 mm jack plug.
  • On/Off Power Switch: A dedicated power switch is located on the right-hand side of the meter. When turned on, a red power indicator LED illuminates.
  • Easy Aerial Alignment Process:
    1. Turn on the power switch; the red power indicator will light up.
    2. Point your aerial in the general direction of visible neighboring aerials or known broadcast towers.
    3. Slowly rotate the aerial in a horizontal arc. Observe the green signal strength LEDs; continue turning until the maximum number of LEDs are lit.
    4. If multiple directions yield the same maximum LED count, choose the direction that covers the widest arc.
    5. Finally, position the aerial at the estimated mid-point of the range where the maximum number of LEDs were lit, ensuring optimal signal reception.
  • Connectors: The device features two F-type connectors labeled "RECEIVER" and "ANTENNA" for connecting to your TV and aerial, respectively.

Maintenance Features:

  • Battery Replacement: The 9V battery can be easily replaced by opening the battery carrier door at the rear of the unit.
  • Accessories: The product includes two plastic protective covers for female F-connectors and two F to PAL male adaptors. These adaptors are useful for converting female F-connectors to PAL type connecting leads if required, enhancing compatibility with various aerial setups. A 9V size Extra Heavy Duty battery is supplied to power the meter.
