Overview

This document provides an operating manual for flanged water meters and flow meters manufactured by Apator Powogaz S.A. These devices are designed for measuring volumetric consumption of piped potable water, household water, industrial process water, and irrigation water from surface bodies and discharge water from sewage treatment plants. The manual covers various models, including MWN (WPH-01) Nubis, MK-01, MH-01, JS Impero, MWN/JS-coupled, MWN NKOP (WPH-N-01), MWN/JS-S NKP, MK-01 NKOP, MH-01 NKOP, JS Impero NKOP, MWN130 (WPH130-01), MWN130 NKP (WPH130-N-01), WI, and WI-NKP.

Function Description:

The water and flow meters operate on a propeller or vane-wheel principle. Water flowing through the meter drives a propeller or vane wheel. This motion is transmitted via a magnetic coupling from the wet section to a dry counter mechanism, which then indicates the measured flow of water through a system of gears, pointers, and barrels.

  • MWN (WPH-01) Nubis: Features a horizontal rotor axis propeller. The propeller is co-axial to the body bore, and its rotation drives a magnet on an axle, transmitting motion to the counter via a worm and wheel transmission.
  • MWN/JS Coupled: Combines a MWN master water meter with a JS single-jet vane-wheel dry side water meter. A spring-action switchover valve automatically diverts water to the side meter at low flows and to the master meter at high flows, providing a wide measurement range.
  • MK-01: Utilizes a vertical rotor axis propeller. The inlet duct is vertical, and the outlet duct is horizontal.
  • MH-01: Similar to MK-01, with a vertical rotor axis propeller, and optionally features a fire hydrant standpipe. The inlet duct is vertical, and the outlet duct is horizontal.
  • JS Impero: Employs a propeller with its axis perpendicular (vertically oriented) to the body bore centreline.
  • WI Irrigation Flow Meter: Features a vane wheel with its axis perpendicular to the body bore centreline, operating like an undershot water wheel. A worm and wheel transmission with magnetic coupling drives the counter mechanism.

Important Technical Specifications:

The meters are designed to meet various standards and regulations, including Directive 2014/32/EU, OIML R 49-1:2006, OIML R 49-2:2004, OIML R49:2013-1, EN 14154 series, and EN ISO 4064 series.

  • Nominal Diameters (DN): Ranging from DN40 to DN400 for flanged water meters and DN40 to DN250 for flanged irrigation flow meters.
  • Operating Temperature:
    • Cold water meters: Min. 0.1°C to Max. 50°C (T50).
    • Hot water meters: Max. 130°C (T130).
    • WI irrigation flow meters: Min. 0.1°C to Max. 30°C.
  • Max Operating Pressure: 1.6 MPa (16 bar) for most models (MAP16).
  • Ingress Protection (IP) Rating:
    • IP68 hermetic counter (new version from 2021 with #UTIP connector, compatible with induction transmitter modules) for MWN Nubis, MWN/JS-coupled, MWN NKOP, MWN130 NKP, and WI (new version).
    • IP65 hermetic counter (compatible with optical transmitter modules) for MWN Nubis, MWN/JS-coupled, MWN NKOP, MWN130, MWN130 NKP, MK-01 NKOP, MH-01 NKOP, JS Impero NKOP, and WI.
  • Permanent Flow Rate (Q3): Varies by model and size, e.g., DN40: 25 m³/h, DN100: 125 m³/h, DN400: 1000 m³/h.
  • Maximum Monthly Load Limit (for irrigation flow meters): Varies by DN, e.g., DN40: 10,800 m³/month, DN250: 302,000 m³/month.
  • Transmitter Modules:
    • NK (reed relay pulse transmitter) and NO (optoelectronic pulse transmitter) are available for NKOP versions.
    • Pulse output values vary: 0.01 m³, 0.1 m³, 1 m³, 10 m³ for cold/hot water meters; 1 litre, 10 litres, 105.2632 litres for NO transmitter modules; 1 m³ or 0.1 m³ for WI-NKP.
  • Environmental Conditions Classification:
    • Mechanical: Class M1.
    • Climatic: Class B.
    • Electromagnetic: Class E1 and E2.

Usage Features:

  • Installation Orientation: Specific models can be installed horizontally (H↑) or vertically (V, H→), with corresponding counter positions. MWN (WPH-01) Nubis and MWN130 (WPH130-01) can be installed in both orientations. MWN/JS-S, MK-01, MH-01, JS Impero, and WI have specific orientations. Maximum installation orientation deviation from vertical is ±3°.
  • Coupled Water Meters: MWN/JS coupled meters feature a spring-action switchover valve for extended measurement range, handling both low and high flow rates efficiently without external power.
  • Remote Transmission: The meters support remote transmission of readings and volumetric flow measurements via various modules (NK, NO, WM-BUS, M-Bus, GSM, RS232/RS485) and protocols (Wireless M-Bus, Modbus RTU/Lumbus, LonWorks).
  • Installation Requirements:
    • Easy access for installation, removal, servicing, and reading.
    • Sheltered from weather, sub-zero temperatures, high humidity, dust, and electrical/gas systems.
    • Protection from shocks, vibration, high ambient temperatures, contaminants, flooding, and corrosive agents.
    • Installation temperature between +5°C and +55°C.
    • Protection from hydraulic turbulence, cavitation, and water rams.
    • Stop valves upstream and downstream are required for isolation.
    • A filter or trap is recommended for contaminated water.
    • Expansion (deflection) couplings are recommended on the discharge side to prevent stress on the meter body.
    • Piping geometry must prevent air blocks, ensuring the meter remains completely filled with water.
    • Upstream and downstream piping must be concentric.
    • Water flow must follow the direction arrow on the meter body.
    • Flanged connections conform to PN-ISO-7005-2 and PN10.
    • Specific straight piping sections (L=3DN, 2L, 3L, 5DN, 3DN) are recommended upstream and downstream to mitigate flow turbulence from bends, valves, pumps, etc. MWN (WPH-01) Nubis and JS Impero can be installed without straight piping sections.

Maintenance Features:

  • Delivery Inspection: Verify no external shipping damage, intact tamper seals, and correct part designation markings.
  • Pre-installation Flushing: Piping must be flushed to remove debris and contamination before meter installation. Filters, if used, must be cleaned.
  • Functional Test: Prior to installation, perform a functional test by spinning the propeller/vane wheel and checking rotation direction.
  • Commissioning: Open water flow slowly with vents open to prevent overspeeding of the propeller/vane wheel during dry run.
  • Operation Monitoring: Periodically verify operating conditions (pressure, temperature, flow rate) are within limits and check for leaks.
  • Troubleshooting: If the counter fails to indicate, check for propeller/vane wheel jamming by dirt. If the meter is clean but still fails, or if other damage is evident, return it for repair. Report pulse transmitter module failures to the manufacturer.
  • Storage and Transport: Store indoors, counter upwards or to the side, away from corrosive agents, at +5°C to +50°C and ≤90% relative humidity. Protect from vibration and shock. Transport in original packaging or suitable substitute. Keep dry in low-temperature conditions.
  • Disposal: Waste packaging should be recycled. Damaged or end-of-life products must be disassembled and processed according to environmental protection laws. Never dispose with household waste.
  • Feedback: The manufacturer welcomes feedback for continuous improvement of the operating manuals.
