ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS
For installation by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes
and the following instruction. The suitability of this type of termination must be evaluated by
Underwriter's Laboratories, Inc. and Canadian Standard Association for the end use application.
Assemble contact to the cables according to the equipment manufacturer's assembly instructions.
The following instructions are supplied as a reference.
Please note:
Instructions are included with each crimp tool for terminating specific contacts. Use of
non-Anderson Power crimp can effect UL & CSA Approval.
1. Strip cable to dimensions in Table A.
2. *Crimp or solder contact to cable following Tables B, C and D.
3. Observing proper polarity, place contact in housing with notched side of tongue next to spring.
(see cross section above).
4. Push contact and cable into housing until it snaps over end of spring; tug slightly to make sure
contact is locked into place.
* Soldering recommended for cables with solid or minimal conductor stranding
(ex. THHN type wire).

Use rosin flux solder only. Wrap cable strands. Melt solder into well, heat and insert stripped
cable. Continue heating well until solder flows into wire, being careful not to over flow onto
contact surface. Do not solder-dip contacts. Cable clamps for solder connections to
unsupported leads (required by Underwriter's Laboratories, Inc.) are listed on Table E (over).

Overview

This document describes the SBS™ Connector, a two-pole connector with single-piece housings, designed for robust and reliable electrical connections.

Function Description

The SBS™ Connector is used for terminating electrical cables, providing a secure and insulated connection. It is designed for installation by qualified electricians in accordance with national and local electrical codes. The suitability of this termination type for specific end-use applications must be evaluated by Underwriter's Laboratories, Inc. and the Canadian Standard Association. The connector facilitates the assembly of contacts to cables, ensuring proper polarity and secure locking within the housing.

Important Technical Specifications

Connector Type: Two Pole Connectors with Single-piece Housings Housing Features: Insulated, finger-proof Contact Features: Silver plated Spring Features: Stainless steel Current Rating (SBS50 Series): 50 amps Wire Sizes (AWG): #16-6 (for manual crimping), #16-4/0 (for pneumatic crimping) Wire Sizes (mm): 1.5-16.0 (for manual crimping), 1.5-107.0 (for pneumatic crimping) Cable Stripping Dimensions (SBS™50 Series): 9/16 inches (14 mm) for "X" dimension. Recognition: Recognized under the Component Program of Underwriter's Laboratories, Inc.® (File E26226). UL and CSA Recognized Components.

Usage Features

Assembly Process:

  1. Cable Preparation: Strip the cable to the specified dimensions (9/16 inches or 14 mm for SBS™50 series).
  2. Contact Termination: Crimp or solder the contact to the cable. Soldering is recommended for cables with solid or minimal conductor stranding (e.g., THHN type wire).
  3. Contact Insertion: Observe proper polarity. Place the contact into the housing with the notched side of the tongue next to the spring.
  4. Locking: Push the contact and cable into the housing until it snaps over the end of the spring. A slight tug confirms the contact is securely locked.

Soldering Techniques (Recommended):

  • Use rosin flux solder only.
  • Wrap cable strands before soldering.
  • Melt solder into the well, heat, and insert the stripped cable.
  • Continue heating until solder flows into the wire, taking care not to overflow onto the contact surface.
  • Do not solder-dip contacts.
  • Cable clamps for solder connections to unsupported leads are required by Underwriter's Laboratories, Inc.

Crimping Notes:

  • Use appropriate reducing bushings for smaller cable sizes (refer to Table D).
  • Consult the APP® catalog or factory for appropriate crimping die sets.
  • For high-volume crimping (reeled contacts), consult the APP® catalog or factory.
  • It is advised to consult an authorized Anderson representative for recommended termination tooling.
  • Using non-Anderson Power crimp tools may affect UL & CSA approval.

Maintenance Features

Disassembly of Unmated SBS™ Housing:

  1. Power Off: Ensure power is switched off before attempting disassembly.
  2. Contact Removal: Depress the springs at the front end of the connector using an insulated screwdriver with a 1/8" blade.
  3. Extraction: Gently pull the contact out of the housing.

The SBS™ Connector is covered by multiple patents in the U.S., Canada, United Kingdom, and France, with other patents pending. "Anderson Power Products" is a registered U.S. and foreign trademark.
