Mastering the iPad Multi-touch
To move around on your Apple iPad, use the multi-touch screen. The iPad has no mouse and
no physical keyboard or keypad buttons; the multi-touch screen displays virtual versions of
buttons and controls as required for the tasks at hand. Prep your fingers for the following:
Scrolling: Place your finger on the screen and drag up/down/left/right to scroll
through screens, music, pictures, e-mails, contacts, and more. Flick one finger across
the iPad screen to scroll quickly.
Tapping: Tap against the iPad screen to open applications, play songs, choose photos,
etc.
Zooming: Pinch and unpinch to enlarge web pages and pictures, or to make them
smaller. To pinch or unpinch using multi-touch, place your thumb and index finger
against the iPad screen and then drag your thumb and index finger towards or away
from each other to pinch or unpinch accordingly. You can also zoom in by tapping on
the screen two times (2x) and then zoom out by tapping on the screen again two times
(2x).
4-Finger Swipe: Swipe four (4) fingers to the left/right and see open applications.
Swiping UP with four (4) fingers will reveal the multi-tasking bar.
5-Finger Minimize: With an application open, place all five (5) fingers on the screen
and pinch them all together and watch your application minimize (leave the screen)
and return to the home screen.
Typo Corrections: When typing, iPad virtual keyboard makes spelling suggestions
and corrects mistakes in real time. To make corrections, hold your finger against the
iPad screen in the text area to bring up a magnifying glass that allows you to position
the pointer in the precise spot that needs to be edited.
Copying/Cutting/Pasting Text: When entering text on the iPad, you may find you
need to cut, copy, or paste text. To complete these tasks, do the following:
1. Double tap on the beginning of the word you want to copy/cut.
2. Drag the blue circle sliders to increase or decrease the words to copy/cut.
3. Once the selection is made, tap cut or copy.
4. To paste, double-tap where you want to paste, and select paste from the popup
choices.
