Overview

This document outlines the installation and maintenance instructions for the iBoard® by APS running boards, specifically model IB-R048. These running boards are designed to be mounted on the rocker panel of a vehicle and require drilling for installation.

Function Description:

The iBoard® running boards provide a sturdy step for easier entry and exit from a vehicle. They are designed to integrate with the vehicle's rocker panel, offering a secure and stable platform. The installation process involves attaching a series of mounting brackets to the vehicle's frame and pinch weld, onto which the running boards are then secured.

Important Technical Specifications:

The installation requires various fasteners with specific tightening torque values to ensure safety and stability. The provided table details these specifications:

  • 6mm Fasteners: 6-7 ft-lbs
  • 8mm Fasteners: 16-18 ft-lbs
  • 10mm Fasteners: 31-32 ft-lbs
  • 12mm Fasteners: 56-58 ft-lbs
  • 14mm Fasteners: 92-94 ft-lbs

The kit includes a comprehensive list of components:

  • Fasteners:
    • M8X30 Bolt Plate (X8)
    • M8X1.25-20mm Hex Bolt (X24)
    • M8 Flat Washer (X24)
    • M8 Hex Flange Nut (X32)
    • M6X1-20mm Square Head Bolt (X16)
    • M6 Large Flat Washer (X16)
    • M6 Nylon Lock Nut (X16)
  • Brackets:
    • Driver/Passenger Front Support Bracket (DFS/PFS)
    • Driver/Passenger Front Mounting Bracket (DFM/PFM)
    • Driver/Passenger Center Mounting Bracket (DCM/PCM)
    • Driver/Passenger Rear Mounting Bracket (DRM/PRM)
    • Six universal Support Brackets

Usage Features:

The installation process is divided into several steps, starting from the driver's side and then repeating for the passenger's side.

Step 1: Initial Bracket Placement

  • Locate eight mounting positions along the rocker panel.
  • Insert four M8 Bolt Plates into the oval holes (specifically the 2nd, 4th, 6th, and 8th holes).

Step 2: Assembling and Attaching Front Brackets

  • Assemble the Driver Front Mounting Bracket (DFM/PFM) and the Driver Front Support Bracket (DFS/PFS) using one M8X1.25-20mm Hex Bolt, two M8 Flat Washers, and one M8 Hex Flange Nut. Do not fully tighten these fasteners at this stage.
  • Attach the assembled Driver Front Mounting Bracket to the rocker panel.
  • Based on the position of the Driver Front Support Bracket, mark and drill two holes on the pinch weld.

Step 3: Securing Front Brackets

  • Install the assembled Driver Front Mounting Bracket onto the rocker panel and pinch weld.
  • Secure it with one M8 Bolt Plate, two M8X1.25-20mm Hex Bolts, five M8 Flat Washers, and three M8 Hex Flange Nuts. Again, do not fully tighten at this time.

Step 4: Installing Center and Rear Brackets

  • Repeat Steps 1-3 for the remaining mounting positions on the driver's side (4th, 6th, and 8th holes). This involves installing two Driver Center Mounting Brackets (DCM/PCM), one Driver Rear Mounting Bracket (DRM/PRM), and three universal Support Brackets. All fasteners should remain loose at this stage.

Step 5: Attaching Running Boards

  • Select a running board.
  • Slip four M6x1-20mm Square Head Bolts into each bottom channel of the running board.
  • Carefully position the running board onto the four mounting brackets. It is crucial not to slide the running board on the brackets to prevent damage to the board's bottom surface.
  • Attach the running board to each mounting bracket using two M6x1-20mm Square Head Bolts, two M6 Large Flat Washers, and two M6 Nylon Lock Nuts. Do not fully tighten these fasteners yet.

Step 6: Final Tightening

  • Level and adjust the running board to ensure proper alignment.
  • Fully tighten all hardware according to the recommended tightening torques provided in the technical specifications table on page 1. It is important not to overtighten the nuts/bolts to prevent damage.

Step 7: Completion

  • Repeat Steps 1-4 for the passenger side running board installation.
  • The installation is then complete.

Maintenance Features:

  • Periodic Inspections: Regular inspections are recommended to ensure all hardware remains secure and tight.
  • Cleaning: To protect the running boards, use only mild soap and non-abrasive products for cleaning.
