Do you have a question about the Aqua Exclusive DRUM FILTER C-25 EVO and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Aqua Exclusive Drum Filter C-25 EVO is a modern and highly effective all-in-one filter system designed for (koi) ponds, large aquariums, and fish farms. It integrates three main elements: a Rotary Drum Filter (RDF) for mechanical filtration, a Moving Bed Bio Chamber for biological filtration, and a High Output UV-C system for disinfection. This system operates fully automatically, cleaning itself as needed, and aims to provide a compact, reliable, and efficient filtration solution.

Function Description

The C-25 EVO filter system is designed to remove dirt particles, harmful substances, and pathogens from water. The mechanical filtration component, the Rotary Drum Filter (RDF), uses a 70-micron filter panel to capture dirt particles from the water. As water flows through the drum, dirt adheres to the inside of the filter panel. A water level sensor detects when the panel is sufficiently clogged, triggering an automatic cleaning process. During cleaning, special flat nozzles spray the drum clean with water from the system, and the dirty water is then removed through a drain gutter into the sewer. This ensures the filter only rinses when necessary, optimizing water usage.

Following mechanical filtration, the water enters the Moving Bed Bio Chamber. This bio filter utilizes white bio media to create a healthy bacterial environment, transforming harmful degradation products like ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate into stable, clean water. This biological filtration helps maintain a clear and stable aquatic environment.

The final stage of filtration involves a High Output UV-C system. This 40-watt UV-C system is built inside the filter, underneath the drum, eliminating the need for external UV equipment in the pipe system and promoting optimal flow. The sophisticated design and high-quality materials produce high UV-C radiation at a wavelength of 253.7nm, which effectively kills almost all bacteria, viruses, and fungi. This system is stated to produce 60% more light than normal UV-C lamps, ensuring clean and clear water.

The C-25 EVO can be configured in two main setups: gravity-fed and pump-fed. In a gravity-fed setup, water flows into the filter due to gravity, maintaining an equal water level between the pond and the filter. A circulation pump is placed at the filter's outlet to return clean water to the pond, causing dirty water to flow back to the filter via skimmers and bottom drains. For optimal use, the pond should be close to the maximum water level in the filter. In a pump-fed setup, a circulation pump in the pond pushes dirty water into the filter. The advantage here is that the filter does not need to be at the same water level as the pond, allowing for more flexible placement (e.g., above ground). Clean water then flows back to the pond by gravity. The water level sensor's position needs to be adjusted based on the chosen setup: downwards in the drum chamber for gravity-fed (top float detects drop in water level) and upwards in the front chamber for pump-fed (bottom float detects rise in water level).

Important Technical Specifications

  • Filter Panel: 70 micron
  • Inlets: Two 4"/110mm
  • Outlet: One 4"/110mm
  • Water Flow: 5,250 Gallons (20,000 Liters) per hour
  • Recommended Bio Filter Flow: 2,650 Gallons (10,000 Liters) per hour
  • UV-C System: 40-watt High Output UV-C lamp
  • UV-C Wavelength: 253.7nm
  • Rinse Pump Pressure: 3 bar (pressure peaks of 4 bar may occur during start-up)
  • Operating Water Temperature: 4 to 40 °C
  • Gravity Setup Water Level: 34.5 cm (13.5″)
  • Pump Fed Setup Water Level: 32.5 cm (12.8″)
  • Slip Clutch Torque: 65nm (for drive shaft)
  • Electrical Requirements: Must be connected to an electrical installation meeting legal standards, including a residual-current device (30 mA) and an earthed wall socket.

Usage Features

  • Automatic Cleaning: The filter cleans itself automatically when the water level sensor detects a clogged filter panel, eliminating manual intervention for routine cleaning.
  • All-in-One System: Combines mechanical, biological, and UV-C filtration in a single unit, simplifying installation and reducing the need for separate equipment.
  • Flexible Installation: Supports both gravity-fed and pump-fed setups, offering versatility for different pond designs and placements.
  • Water Level Sensor: Intelligently activates the cleaning process only when necessary, conserving water and energy. The sensor's position is adjustable for optimal performance in either gravity or pump-fed configurations.
  • High Output UV-C: Provides 60% more light than standard UV-C lamps, ensuring effective disinfection against bacteria, viruses, and fungi.
  • Bypass Function: Allows for short-circuiting the drum filter during treatments or in case of problems, ensuring continuous biological filtration. This is activated by removing two red caps from the partition wall and connecting the circulation pump to a 110V mains outlet.
  • Controlbox: Features a manually rinsing button, UV-C power socket, rinse pump power socket, water pump power socket, drum motor power socket, fuses, and an ON/OFF switch. It also includes a DMX connector for the water level sensor.

Maintenance Features

  • Monthly Maintenance: The device requires maintenance at least once a month. This involves disconnecting power, ensuring water drainage, manually turning the drum to check for wear, and inspecting the drain for algae/dirt.
  • Screen Panel Replacement: The filter panel should be checked for wear and replaced as soon as possible to maintain optimal performance. The process involves disconnecting power, draining water, turning the drum to expose the fastening strip and clamps, removing screws and clamps, removing the drain sewer, replacing the screen panel, and reassembling.
  • Slip Clutch Setting: The drive shaft is equipped with a slip clutch set to 65nm, allowing the shaft to turn freely if the drum is obstructed. This setting can be checked and adjusted by removing the motor cover, placing a torque spanner on the M10 nut, preventing the drum from turning, and torquing to 65nm.
  • UV-C System Maintenance: The UV-C bulb and quartz sleeve are components that may require periodic replacement. The manual provides detailed steps for connecting the UV-C system, which would be reversed for disassembly and replacement.
  • Control Box Access: The control box is designed for easy access to fuses and power sockets for various components, facilitating troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Water Level Management: Maintaining the correct water level is crucial for proper system function and to prevent leaks. The manual provides specific water levels for gravity and pump-fed setups.
