Overview

The AQUA FP2 and FP3 cartridge filters are designed for the treatment of drinking water in domestic settings. These filters are primarily used for turbidity filtration, chlorine removal, and the dosing of anti-scaling agents like polyphosphate salt. They are suitable for various types of filter cartridges, allowing for flexible water treatment based on specific needs.

Function Description:

The core function of these filters is to purify incoming drinking water. Depending on the chosen cartridge, they can perform different treatments:

  • Turbidity Filtration: Removing suspended particles that cause cloudiness in water.
  • Chlorine Removal: Eliminating chlorine, which can affect water taste and odor.
  • Anti-scaling Treatment: Dosing polyphosphate salts or similar products to prevent scale buildup in pipes and appliances.

AQUA S.p.A. offers a wide range of cartridges compatible with FP2 and FP3 filters, including:

  • Wire wound cartridges (Mod. FA): For general sediment filtration.
  • Melt Blown polypropylene cartridges (Mod. FR-E; FR-N; FR-A): For fine sediment filtration.
  • Washable mesh cartridges (Mod. RLA): Reusable cartridges for sediment removal.
  • Pleated cartridges (Mod. PL): Offer a larger surface area for enhanced filtration.
  • Ultrafiltration cartridges (Mod. UF): For very fine filtration, removing smaller particles.
  • Steel cartridges (Mod. AC): Durable cartridges for specific applications.
  • Activated carbon cartridges (Mod. CA; GAC; CTO; RLA-CA; FA-CA): For chlorine, taste, and odor removal.
  • Cartridges with polyphosphate salts (Mod. CP; RLA-CP): For anti-scaling treatment.
  • Iron removal cartridges (Mod. FE): Specifically designed to remove iron from water.
  • Resin cartridges (Mod. RC; R-DEMI): For demineralization or specific ion exchange.

The filters are available with either transparent or opaque sumps, in various heights, and with different pipe connection sizes, with or without brass inserts. They come in two-piece (FP2) or three-piece (FP3) configurations.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Materials:
    • Head: PP loaded without brass inserts (PP caricato senza inserti in ottone).
    • Sump: Transparent SAN-PP white loaded (SAN trasparente-PP caricato bianco).
    • O-Ring: NBR 70 Sh A.
  • Working Temperature: 5°C to +50°C min./max.
  • Max Working Pressure:
    • FP2, FP3, DUPLEX, TRIPLEX, FP2 HT: 10 BAR
    • FP2 ALL PP: 6 BAR
    • AQUA BIG: 8 BAR
  • Capacity (empty) at 2 BAR:
    • 1/4"F: 32.83 Lt./min.
    • 3/8"F: 86.70 Lt./min.
    • 1/2"F: 106.60 Lt./min.
    • 3/4"F: 108.50 Lt./min.
    • 1"F: 105.60 Lt./min.
  • Dimensions: The manual provides detailed tables for FP3 (5", 7", 9"3/4, 20") and FP2 (5", 7", 9"3/4, 20") filters, specifying measurements (A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, L, M, N) for various inlet/outlet sizes.
  • Installation Distances:
    • Minimum recommended distance from the wall: 80 mm.
    • Minimum distance from the floor: 25 mm (recommended 100 mm or more).

Usage Features:

  • Installation: Must be performed by qualified personnel. A bypass is advisable for maintenance without interrupting water supply. Respect inlet/outlet direction (IN-OUT) on the filter head.
  • Wall Mounting: Use an appropriate wall bracket (optional) for correct fixing and spacing, allowing filter opening with the key.
  • Connections: Use flexible fittings to avoid pipe tensions. Avoid connecting threaded pipes directly. Use fittings with cylindrical thread (GAS or BSP pitch), not tapered threads.
  • Sealing: When fixing fittings, use only Teflon tape; avoid sealing pastes, hardening liquids, silicone, or hemp.
  • Start-up:
    1. Insert the cartridge, ensuring any film/packaging is removed and gaskets are correctly positioned.
    2. Place the O-Ring in its seat.
    3. Screw the sump clockwise onto the head, tightening by hand. If drips occur, tighten with the key.
    4. Re-open water, check for drips, and vent the vessel by slightly opening the vent screw or pressing the appropriate button.
    5. Let water flow from a tap for a few minutes to evacuate air and remove dust/dirt.
  • General Warnings:
    • Use only for drinking water as defined by authorities, or food-grade liquids with neutral pH.
    • Do not use with water of unknown origin or microbiologically impure without adequate disinfection.
    • Operate within declared pressure limits; install a pressure reducer if high pressures or "water hammer" are present.
    • Use with liquids at room temperature (20-25°C), within manufacturer limits.
    • If used upstream of a boiler, install a non-return valve.
    • Do not use for compressed air, oil, or gas filtration.
    • Avoid environments exposed to freezing or high temperatures; outdoor installation is not recommended.

Maintenance Features:

  • Regular Maintenance: Essential for ensuring treated water potability and maintaining declared improvements.
  • Cleaning: Clean the filter only with a sponge and running water when replacing or cleaning the cartridge. Do not use detergents, solvents, alcohol, or anything that could affect plastic material or water potability.
  • Sump Replacement: Replace the sump if it collides or falls, as transparent sumps are fragile and prone to cracking, which can lead to rupture under pressure or water hammer.
  • Cartridge Removal (for extended non-use): If water is not used for several weeks, remove the cartridge, wash it thoroughly, and sterilize it, or fit a new one before reinstallation.
  • Maintenance Procedure:
    1. Divert water flow from the filter (bypass or close taps).
    2. Reduce internal pressure (vent screw/button).
    3. Place a container or rags to collect dripping water.
    4. Disassemble the sump using the special plastic key. Handle carefully to avoid dropping.
    5. Check O-Ring for damage; replace if necessary.
    6. Remove the cartridge and clean any dirt from the vessel, head, or O-Ring.
    7. Place a new or cleaned cartridge, ensuring gaskets are correctly positioned.
    8. Screw the sump onto the head (by hand).
    9. Reactivate water network, keeping vent valve open until air escapes, then close.
    10. Tighten sump with key if dripping occurs.
    11. After any maintenance, let water run for a few minutes.
  • Cartridge Replacement Frequency (linked to cartridge type):
    • Sediment Cartridges (wire wound, Melt Blown, pleated, RLA): Replace or wash within 2-5 months, or if a significant pressure drop occurs. Washable RLA cartridges can be reused multiple times after thorough washing and disinfection (immerse in disinfectant for 5 minutes, then rinse). Melt Blown cartridges must be thoroughly washed before installation to remove antistatic compound residues.
    • Carbon Cartridges: Replace within 3-4 months, or if chlorine taste/bad smells are perceived. Rinse new cartridges thoroughly to remove carbon dust.
    • Polyphosphate Salt Cartridges: Replace within 4-6 months, or when the polyphosphate salt is exhausted.

Disposal:

Follow state/regional disposal rules.

  • Cartridges: Dispose of as unsorted waste (dirty/soiled material).
  • Filters and Vases: Recycle with plastic products (polypropylene). Remove any metal parts first.

Warranty:

The product is guaranteed according to AQUA SPA's "General Conditions of Sale." Warranty details include:

  • Item used according to manufacturer instructions.
  • Installation and maintenance performed according to manufacturer instructions.
  • Replacement under warranty only against return of defective material and verification of defect.
