The Aqueon QuietFlow® Internal Power Filter is designed to provide efficient and effective filtration for aquariums, ensuring a clean and healthy environment for aquatic life. This device is available in several models, including AT10, AT15, AT30, and AT40, each with varying capacities and specifications to suit different aquarium sizes.
Function Description:
The QuietFlow® Internal Power Filter employs a multi-stage filtration process to remove physical debris, chemical impurities, and biological toxins from aquarium water.
- Mechanical Filtration: The first stage involves a wedge-shaped foam filter trap that captures large particles and debris. This design ensures a larger surface area for incoming water, allowing for thorough mechanical filtration and preventing clogging.
- Chemical Filtration: The filter cartridge contains activated carbon, which is highly effective at removing harmful toxins, odors, and discoloration from the water, improving water clarity and quality.
- Biological Filtration (BioGrid™): The BioGrid™ component provides a large surface area for beneficial bacteria colonies to grow. These bacteria are crucial for the nitrification cycle, converting ammonia and nitrites—toxic compounds—into less harmful nitrates.
The filter is designed to be placed either vertically or horizontally within the aquarium, offering flexibility in installation. The outlet deflector can be rotated horizontally and vertically, allowing for maximum versatility in directing water flow. This feature helps create a useful surface movement and a light bottom current, which facilitates waste product intake and improves oxygen exchange. The outlet deflector is completely rotatable, making it adaptable for various aquarium setups.

Usage Features:
- Installation Flexibility: The filter can be mounted vertically or horizontally, depending on the tank level and type of tank. The outlet deflector rotates horizontally and vertically, allowing for versatile water flow direction.
- Adjustable Flow: The water flow can be adjusted by manipulating the telescopic pipe. Pulling up the telescopic pipe unit increases flow, while pushing it down decreases flow.
- Secure Mounting: The filter is secured to the aquarium glass using suction cups, ensuring stability and preventing movement.
- Polarized Plug: The appliance features a polarized plug with one blade wider than the other as a safety feature. This plug is designed to fit into a polarized outlet only one way. Users are advised not to defeat this safety feature.
- Drip Loop: To prevent water from dripping onto the receptacle or plug, a "drip loop" should be arranged for each cord connecting an aquarium appliance to the receptacle. This loop ensures that any water traveling along the cord will drip off before reaching the electrical outlet.
Maintenance Features:
Regular maintenance is essential for the optimal performance and longevity of the QuietFlow® Internal Power Filter.
- Filter Cartridge Replacement: The filter cartridge (containing activated carbon) should be removed and replaced every 30 days or as needed to ensure proper filtration and water flow. To replace the cartridge:
- Separate the motor from the cartridge housing.
- Lift off the black filter chamber cover.
- Slide out the filter cartridge(s) while leaving the Bio Grid in place.
- Replace the filter cartridge(s) and re-assemble the filter.
- Rinse the new cartridge(s) with warm water before installation.
- BioGrid™ Maintenance: The biological filter grid does not require routine maintenance. However, if it becomes necessary to clean, rinse it very gently in water from the tank. Avoid using tap water for cleaning the BioGrid™ as chlorine can harm beneficial bacteria.
- Motor and Impeller Cleaning: The motor and impeller should be periodically cleaned to prevent mineral buildup and ensure smooth operation. To clean:
- Separate the motor from the cartridge housing.
- Take away the impeller cover.
- Remove the rotor and rinse it with warm water.
- Replace all components.
- General Cleaning: Always unplug the appliance from the outlet before performing any cleaning or maintenance. Never yank the cord to pull the plug; always grasp the plug and pull to disconnect.
- Pre-installation Rinse: Before starting the filter, it is advisable to rinse filtering materials in running water to remove any manufacturing residues.
Safety Instructions:
- Electrical Safety: Never attempt to repair the appliance yourself if it shows signs of abnormal water leakage, has a damaged cord or plug, or is malfunctioning. Return it to an authorized service facility or discard it. Ensure the appliance is not plugged in if water is present on parts not intended to be wet.
- Supervision: Close supervision is necessary when the appliance is used by or near children.
- Moving/Hot Parts: Avoid contact with moving parts or hot parts such as heaters, reflectors, or lamp bulbs to prevent injury.
- Intended Use: Do not use the appliance for purposes other than its intended use.
- Environmental Conditions: Do not install or store the appliance where it will be exposed to weather or temperatures below freezing.
- Secure Installation: Ensure the appliance is securely installed on the tank before operating it.
- Extension Cords: If an extension cord is necessary, use one with a proper rating to prevent overheating. Arrange the cord to prevent tripping or pulling.
