Overview

This document is an instruction manual for an Aqueon Submersible Aquarium Heater.

Function Description:

The Aqueon Submersible Aquarium Heater is designed to maintain a stable water temperature in aquariums. It is listed by Underwriters Laboratories, ensuring it meets stringent U.S. and Canadian safety requirements. The heater is intended for indoor household use only.

Important Technical Specifications:

The manual lists several models with varying wattages and recommended aquarium sizes:

  • TA50H: 50W, recommended for 5-20 gallon aquariums. Overall length: 9.0".
  • TA100H: 100W, recommended for 15-40 gallon aquariums. Overall length: 10.3".
  • TA150H: 150W, recommended for 30-55 gallon aquariums. Overall length: 13.0".
  • TA200H: 200W, recommended for 50-75 gallon aquariums. Overall length: 13.0".
  • TA300H: 300W, recommended for 65-90 gallon aquariums. Overall length: 15.0".

All models operate at 120 Volts, 60 Hz.

Usage Features:

  • Temperature Adjustment: The heater features an adjustment knob (A) on the top with a graduated scale, allowing users to set the desired temperature.
  • Indicator Lamp: An indicator lamp (C) illuminates when the heater is actively functioning and in heating mode.
  • Installation Flexibility: The heater can be installed vertically or horizontally within the aquarium. For vertical installation, the water level must be above the MINIMUM WATER LEVEL LINE (B) on the heater. For horizontal installation, the heater must be fully submerged in water at all times.
  • Suction Cups: Suction cups (D) are provided to securely attach the heater to the aquarium glass. These should be placed over the label portion of the heater, not the heating element.
  • Rubber Protective Guard: The heater includes a rubber protective guard (E) at the bottom. It is crucial to NEVER operate the heater without this guard.
  • Drip Loop: To prevent water from reaching electrical outlets, a "drip loop" should be arranged for all cords connecting aquarium appliances to the receptacle. This loop is the part of the cord below the level of the receptacle, designed to prevent water travel along the cord.
  • Polarized Plug: The appliance may feature a polarized plug (one blade wider than the other) as a safety feature. This plug will only fit in a polarized outlet one way. Users are advised not to defeat this safety feature.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: Always unplug the appliance from the outlet before cleaning or performing any maintenance.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides troubleshooting steps for common issues:
    • Low Temperature: If the water temperature remains too low after 24 hours, users should check the thermometer, ensure the temperature is set correctly, verify the heater is plugged in and receiving power, confirm it's submerged to at least the "MINIMUM WATER LEVEL" line, ensure adequate water circulation, confirm the aquarium volume is within the recommended range, and check for lime scale on the glass (which should be removed after unplugging).
    • High Temperature: If the water temperature is too high after 24 hours, users should verify the temperature setting and check for excessive water evaporation, adding water immediately if the volume has significantly decreased.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Always disconnect all immersed electrical equipment from the power source before placing hands in water.
    • Maintain adequate water levels as stated in the "SET-UP" section.
    • Do not use the product if the cord or product appears damaged.
    • Do not operate or leave the product plugged-in when outside of water.
    • Do not attempt to repair the appliance yourself; return it to an authorized service facility or discard it if it shows signs of abnormal water leakage, has a damaged cord/plug, is malfunctioning, or has been dropped/damaged.
    • Avoid contact with moving or hot parts.
    • Unplug the appliance when not in use, before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning.
    • Do not yank the cord to pull the plug; grasp the plug and pull to disconnect.
    • Do not use the appliance for purposes other than its intended use.
    • Do not install or store the appliance where it will be exposed to weather or freezing temperatures.
    • Ensure the appliance is securely installed on the tank before operating.
    • If an extension cord is necessary, use one with a proper rating and arrange it to prevent tripping or pulling.
