Another possibility is that the float is damaged, filled with liquid, and has sunk, requiring you to replace it. Lastly, the float might be stuck on magnetic or magnetisable components located outside the float chamber; search for any iron parts (like clamps or screws) along the magnetic level indicator using a magnet, remove them, and replace them with the correct original components.
