USER INSTRUCTION MANUAL
CARRERA HELMET WITH
AUTO-DARKENING FILTER
Preparations for Use
Filters:
Before you begin welding always inspect your filter to ensure it is not damaged.
WARNING, never begin welding without first checking to see if the correct front
protection plate is in place, the filter is secured properly in the filter holder, and the
filter holder secured in the helmet. Failure to protect the welding filter or install the
filter / filter holder correctly may cause damage and become a safety hazard should
the UV/IR protection be compromised from spatter or cracks from impact. DAMAGE
CAUSED BY ABUSE SUCH AS EXCESSIVE TEMPERATURES, CRACKS FROM IMPACT,
AND PITTING FROM SPATTER CAUSED BY POOR MAINTENANCE WILL VOID WARRANTY.
Welding Helmets:
WARNING, other safety precautions such as protective clothing, adequate ventilation,
breathing protection, such as a Clean Air Flow
TM
or equal, fire extinguisher, and
protection for co-workers, should also be considered.
Technical Information / Use
Filters:
Warning: Severe burns are possible with a
damaged lens (cracks, pits, holes, etc.).
Do not use damaged lens. Optical radiation
can possibly enter in from behind the
helmet from other welders welding in the
immediate area.

Overview

This document describes the Carrera Helmet with Auto-Darkening Filter, a device designed for welding applications, offering protection and enhanced visibility through its auto-darkening filter technology.

Function Description:

The Carrera Helmet is a personal protective equipment (PPE) designed to shield the user's face and eyes from harmful optical radiation, spatter, and sparks generated during welding processes. Its primary function is to provide a clear view of the workpiece while automatically darkening the filter when an arc is struck, and returning to a light state when welding stops. This auto-darkening feature eliminates the need to constantly raise and lower the helmet, improving efficiency and safety. The helmet is designed for use in various welding applications, excluding oxy-acetylene, laser, or very low amperage welding.

Important Technical Specifications:

The helmet is rated Z87+ for impact when the thumb screw is installed, and Z87 without it. For Z87+ compliance, the Filter Holder Center Tab must be secured to the Welding Helmet Centering Pin with the thumb screw, ensuring it is not overtightened. The front cover plates are 1 mm thick (0.040”) polycarbonate, providing protection against spatter. The auto-darkening filters offer continuous UV/IR protection regardless of the shade setting. The helmet is designed to protect against optical radiation and spatter, with a warning that damage caused by abuse (excessive temperatures, cracks from impact, pitting from spatter due to poor maintenance) will void the warranty. The helmet is suitable for storage and transport in temperatures ranging from 14°F to 131°F.

Usage Features:

The helmet incorporates several user-adjustable features for optimal comfort and performance:

  • Filter Installation and Removal: The filter is removed by grabbing its top and bottom edge, pulling up on the bottom edge, and sliding it out. Installation is the reverse. The filter holder is secured to the helmet's centering pin with a thumb screw.
  • Headgear Adjustments: The headgear allows for height adjustment (snap out/slide/snap in) and fit adjustment (push in/turn/release) to ensure a comfortable and secure fit.
  • Filter Models and Controls:
    • 1000 FcF Model: Features shade and sensitivity adjustments via knobs on the back of the filter. Delay is adjusted by quickly pressing and releasing the Delay/Grind button, indicated by a red LED. Grind mode is activated by pressing and holding the Delay/Grind button until a red Grind LED turns on, and deactivated by quickly pressing and releasing it again.
    • 2000V Model: Has a shade knob on the outside of the helmet. Sensitivity and delay are adjusted using knobs on the back of the filter. This model does not include a Grind mode.
    • 2500V Model: Similar to the 2000V, but with an additional shade control on the back of the helmet.
  • Safety Warnings: Users are warned to always inspect the filter for damage before welding, never to weld without the correct front protection plate, and to ensure the filter and filter holder are properly secured. Damaged lenses (cracks, pits, holes) can cause severe burns. Optical radiation can also enter from behind the helmet if other welders are in the immediate area. If the filter fails to darken, use must be stopped immediately, and a service provider contacted. Protective clothing, adequate ventilation, breathing protection, and fire extinguishers are also recommended.
  • Spatter Protection: The front cover plate must be securely placed under all tabs inside the helmet and within the filter holder's area. Spatter damage is not covered by warranty. To install cover plates, slide polycarbonate under the top tabs, then push underneath the bottom tabs.
  • Limitations: The filters are not designed for oxy-acetylene, laser, or very low amperage welding. Welding in the light state of the filter is prohibited.

Maintenance Features:

Proper maintenance is crucial for the longevity and performance of the Carrera Helmet:

  • Filter Cleaning: The filter should be cleaned using window cleaner or a mild soapy solution and a soft cloth or paper towel. It should not be immersed in water or solution. Sensors must be kept clean and unobstructed.
  • Cover Plate Replacement: Front cover plates should be changed frequently to maintain clear vision and protection.
  • Helmet Cleaning: The helmet can be cleaned with a mild soapy solution and a soft cloth or paper towel.
  • Storage: The helmet should be stored in an appropriate place to prevent damage when not in use.
  • Replacement Components: Only ArcOne® replacement components should be used. Failure to do so voids certification and warranty.
  • Abuse Warning: Throwing or abusing the helmet can crack the shell or filter and is not covered by warranty.

The product comes with a two-year limited warranty against manufacturing defects, requiring proof of purchase and serial number for claims. The warranty is voided by unauthorized modification, tampering, misuse, abuse, inadequate maintenance, or improper storage.
