This document is the User's Manual for the Ariston Genus boiler, covering models Genus 23 MI, Genus 27 RFFI SYSTEM, and Genus 23/27/30 MFFI. It provides detailed instructions for operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
Function Description:
The Ariston Genus boiler is a heating appliance designed to provide both central heating and domestic hot water (for combination versions only). It features electronic ignition and various operating modes to suit different user needs and environmental conditions. The boiler is equipped with safety devices to ensure safe and efficient operation, including an ignition lockout system, overheat thermostat, and a fume sensor (for Genus 23 MI).
Important Technical Specifications:
Usage Features:
- Control Panel: Features a selector knob for Summer/Winter/Flue Analysis Modes (C), a temperature adjustment knob for domestic hot water (E), a heating system thermometer (F), an adjustment knob for heating temperature (H), an On/Off switch (L), and a heating system pressure gauge (O).
- LED Indicators:
- Ignition Lockout L.E.D. (B): Red, indicates burner failure to light.
- Low System Water Level L.E.D. (D): Red, indicates insufficient water circulation.
- Safety (Overheat) Thermostat Intervention L.E.D. (G): Red, indicates boiler overheating.
- On/Off L.E.D. (I): Green, indicates the boiler is on.
- Fume Sensor L.E.D. (N): Yellow (Genus 23 MI only), indicates fume discharge issues.
- Start-up Procedure: Involves checking water pressure and gas/water inlets, then pressing the On/Off switch (L). The boiler automatically lights the main burner. If ignition fails, the red "B" L.E.D. lights up, and the system can be reset by pressing button "A".
- Operating Modes:
- Winter Mode (< III >): Provides both central heating and domestic hot water. Hot water takes precedence over heating.
- Summer Mode (< >): Cuts out the heating system and only provides domestic hot water.
- Flue Test Feature: (For authorised personnel only) Bypasses temperature adjustment on the heating circuit for fume analysis.
- Temperature Adjustment:
- Heating Temperature: Adjusted with knob "H", offering three heating zones based on outside temperature (e.g., +5°C to +15°C, +5°C to -5°C, lower to -5°C).
- Domestic Hot Water Temperature: Adjusted with knob "E", ranging from 36°C to 56°C. Medium temperatures are recommended for efficiency.
- Room Thermostat Integration: The boiler can be controlled by an external room thermostat. In this setup, the boiler runs until the ambient temperature reaches the thermostat setting, then the burner turns off and the circulation pump stops.
- Time Clock: Allows programming of switching times for automatic operation.
- Setting Current Time/Weekday: Use the "L" key, "h" key for hour, "m" key for minutes, and "Day" key for weekday (1=Mon to 7=Sun).
- Entering Switching Times: Use the "Prog" key to find a free memory location. Select ON/OFF, then set hour, minutes, and days.
- Manual Override: The "L" key allows temporary changes to current switching settings without altering the programmed schedule.
- Reading/Changing Programmed Times: Use the "Prog" key to cycle through stored switching times.
- Deleting Switching Times: Select the desired time, set it to "--" using "h" or "m" keys, and hold the "L" key for 3 seconds.
- Shutdown Procedure: Press the On/Off switch "L" to turn off the main burner. It is also recommended to turn off the gas cock.
- Safety Shutdowns:
- Overheating: Indicated by red "G" L.E.D. The boiler shuts off if the safety thermostat detects high temperatures. Reset by pressing "A" after cooling.
- Burner Failure to Light: Indicated by red "B" L.E.D. Reset by pressing "A".
- Insufficient Water Circulation: Indicated by red "D" L.E.D. Check system pressure (gauge "O") and refill if below 0.5 bar. Reset by turning the boiler off and on with "L".
- Fume Discharge (Genus 23 MI): Indicated by yellow "N" L.E.D. The boiler shuts off for approximately 12 minutes if fumes are detected in the room. It resets automatically.
Maintenance Features:
- Annual Servicing: Recommended for efficient and safe operation by a competent person.
- System Pressure Check: Periodically check the pressure gauge "O". It should be between 1.0 and 1.5 bar when the system is off and cool. A low pressure L.E.D. "D" indicates a need for refilling.
- Cleaning: Outer panels should be cleaned with a damp cloth. The control panel can be wiped with a damp or dry cloth; avoid abrasive cleaners and spray polishes. Prevent liquid from entering the appliance.
- Water Softener: Recommended for areas with exceptionally hard water to maintain efficiency and reduce gas consumption.
- Extended Shutdown: For long periods of disuse, turn off the electricity (On/Off switch "L") and the gas supply to the unit.
- Professional Inspection: In case of persistent faults (e.g., repeated ignition failures, frequent overheat shutdowns, or multiple fume sensor activations), contact an Authorised Service Centre.
