Notes on Armorgard FittingStor

Overview

The Armorgard FittingStor is a robust, transportable storage unit designed to provide security, organization, and mobility for tools and equipment. It is available in two models: FC4-T and FC6-T, both engineered for operational and maintenance efficiency.

Function Description

The primary function of the FittingStor is to securely store and transport fittings, tools, and other equipment on job sites. Its design emphasizes security through a robust padlock locking mechanism, ensuring that contents are protected from theft and unauthorized access. The unit also offers excellent organization with adjustable shelves and dividers, allowing users to customize the internal layout to suit various types and sizes of equipment. Its transportable nature, facilitated by heavy-duty casters and forklift pockets, makes it easy to move the unit around a site or transport it between locations. The FittingStor is suitable for outdoor use due to its weather-resistant construction and durable powder coating, though it's recommended to avoid prolonged exposure to wet conditions for sensitive electrical components.

Usage Features

The FittingStor is designed for ease of use and maximum efficiency.

  • Assembly and Setup: The manual provides clear instructions for assembly, starting with the careful unloading of the unit using a forklift or pallet truck. Users are advised to check for any damage upon arrival.
  • Caster Installation: The unit comes with a caster kit, and detailed steps are provided for installation. It's crucial to lift the FittingStor onto a stable platform, ensuring it's empty to prevent injury. Two of the casters are swivel-braked, and it's recommended to install these on the same side, ideally where the side handle is located for better maneuverability. The casters are secured with nuts tightened using a 33/64" or adjustable wrench. After installation, all nuts should be checked for tightness, and the swivel casters should be able to rotate 360 degrees before lowering the unit.
  • Handle Attachment: A handle kit is included to aid in maneuverability. The handle is attached by aligning its holes with pre-drilled holes near the cabinet's corner and feeding bolts through. Washers and nuts are then fixed onto the bolts from inside the cabinet. For the FC4 model, multiple people may be needed to attach the handle.
  • Shelf Fitting (FC4-T): The FC4-T model features adjustable shelves with dividers for organized storage. To fit the shelves, users locate the shelf brackets on each side of the cabinet body. The shelf is then slid into the interior, resting on the top surface of the brackets until it touches the rear of the cabinet. A key feature is that the adjustable shelf can only be removed or inserted when both doors are fully open at 180 degrees.
  • Lock Mechanism (T-Latch Lock): The FittingStor utilizes a T-Latch lock system for security. To open the unit, the lock housing at the center of the door is located, and the cover plate is opened to expose the locking mechanism. The padlock is then unlocked and removed. The T-handle is swung to the left until it's perpendicular to the door's front face, then twisted 90 degrees to release the door, allowing it to be pulled open. To lock, the door is shut, the cover plate is opened, and the T-handle is ensured to be parallel to the door's front face. An unlocked padlock is slid into the inner shackle of the pocket to prevent T-handle movement. The padlock is then locked, fitted into the lock housing, and the key removed, allowing the cover plate to close easily. The lock system is designed for use with specific padlock models (Master Lock No. 1, Master Lock No. 5, ABUS 41/50, or American Lock No. 50) or equivalent sized locks, with specific dimensions provided to ensure compatibility.
  • Storing the Unit: The design of the FittingStor is space-efficient for storage. When the unit is stationary, the caster brakes must always be engaged to prevent unintended movement. All locks should be secured when the FittingStor is unattended to maintain maximum security.
  • Transporting the Unit: The FittingStor is designed for easy transport. It features forklift pockets for movement with a forklift or pallet truck. When transporting, the padlock must be secured to prevent the unit from opening unexpectedly. Additionally, the product should be secured using straps or other necessary measures during transport. It's advised that more than one person is required to lift the unit, and it should always be empty of contents when lifted.

Maintenance Features

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of the FittingStor, regular maintenance is recommended.

  • Pre-Use Checks: Before every use, it is crucial to check the FittingStor for any damage. This includes verifying the integrity of the box before moving it.
  • Regular Inspections: Armorgard recommends checking the hinges, locks, shelves, and latches every three months to ensure full operational capability. For units under rigorous use, more frequent integrity checks are advised.
  • Lubrication: Applying light oil to the hinges will ensure smoother operation of the doors.
  • Data Plate Visibility: The product data plate, which contains the unique serial number, should always remain visible and in good condition. This is important for identification and warranty purposes.
  • Environmental Considerations: While weather-resistant, the unit should not be kept outside in consistently wet conditions, especially if it contains electrical components or equipment susceptible to water damage, which should be sealed.
  • Warranty: Armorgard products come with a seven-year manufacturer's warranty. Users are advised not to force entry into the product, as this could affect the warranty. For replacement locks or keys, users should contact their padlock distributor. The warranty covers material conformity to published specifications and freedom from material defects in workmanship. It does not cover defects arising from failure to follow instructions, alterations without consent, fair wear and tear, cosmetic issues, willful damage, negligence, abnormal working conditions, misuse, environmental factors, or defects from buyer-supplied designs. The warranty also excludes third-party products incorporated into the FittingStor.
