Ascom 914D Display Receiver

The 914D Display Receiver is a pocket unit with a top display featuring a 12-character dot matrix display, designed for hands-free operation.

Function Description: The 914D is primarily a receiver unit, capable of displaying messages and providing various alerts. It supports both basic and advanced functionalities, with the advanced version offering expanded memory and features.

Keypad (U922):

  • C-key: Returns to previous menu level, erases paging messages (long press), ends speech calls.

  • OK-key: Mutes and acknowledges pagings, enters main menu to change transceiver settings, stores or recalls a call number, can be programmed as a "send" button.
  • Number- and Hot keys: Activate alarm functions or enter a paging number.

Programming

Programming the Pocket Unit (912T/U922):

  • Via storage/charging rack: Software application Pocket Unit Programmer (PUP) in WinBK is used.
  • Via radio: The pocket unit can be set in program mode for remote programming of User ID and call numbers.
  • Function restriction: Access to functions can be restricted, making parameters inaccessible to the user and disappearing from the receiver.

Parameters for Programming of 912T/D:

  • Main: Call numbers, Identity text.
  • System: Battery saving time, Character set, Prefix, Out of range.
  • Functions: General, Time stamp, Receiver auto ON/OFF, Accessible modes and parameters in the pocket unit.
  • Presentation: Beep character, Beep codes, Message scrolling, Indication sequences.
  • Texts: Possibility to translate display texts and signs.

Programming the U922:

  • Via storage/charging rack: Uses the Pocket Unit Programmer (PUP) in WinBK.
  • Important parameters: Transmitter frequency, Prefix, Call number, Hot Key function.
  • Via radio: System identity and call number can be programmed remotely from a control keyboard or 942PX when the pocket unit is in program mode.

PUP - System Tab for 922K Programming: Configures Out Of Range settings, Battery Saving Time, Character Set, EX Classified Pocket Unit, and Pocket Unit Transmitter Frequency. Note that the transmitter frequency will be rounded to the nearest lower 25 kHz interval for frequencies > 200 MHz and to the nearest lower 6.25 kHz for frequencies <= 200 MHz.

Function Settings in the Pocket Unit (General)

  • Function button: A long press accepts and accesses function settings; a short press steps between settings.
  • Adjustable settings: Change beep signal volume, change orientation of the display text, activate/deactivate group number, activate programming mode, activate/deactivate time stamp function (RTC), remind beep ON/OFF.

Maintenance Features

T967 - Charging/Storage Rack (for 912/914 pocket receivers):

  • Function: Used for charging and storing 912/914 pocket receivers.
  • Test paging: Sends a test paging to the pocket receiver when removed from the rack.
  • Absence indication: If connected to the system bus, the system can indicate absence when the receiver is in the rack (e.g., on a control keyboard).
  • Communication: Communicates with other units in the system via A/B-bus.
  • Types of racks: Two versions: master and extension.
    • Charging rack
    • Storage rack
    • Passive storage rack
    • A master can handle up to 7 extensions.
  • Battery life: When using passive storage racks, it is recommended to turn off the receiver to increase battery life.

Mounting of T967:

  • Vertical installation: Racks must be installed vertically for sufficient cooling.
  • Expansion: Designed for both horizontal and vertical expansion.
  • Master unit first: Always mount the master unit first, leaving space on the left for horizontal expansion.
  • Vertical expansion distance: For vertical expansion of charging racks, maintain a 10 cm distance to the new rack for sufficient cooling.
  • T967VE: Use T967VE for vertical extension.

Start-up of T967:

  • Restart requirement: The master must be restarted when a new extension rack is connected.
  • Address selection: Select an appropriate address on the extension.
  • Function indicator: If the master is connected to the central unit, the function indicator will change from flashing orange to steady green within a certain time.
  • Troubleshooting (blinking orange): Check polarity, connections on the circuit board, and if the master is properly addressed.

T962 - Charging Rack (for U922 and U922K):

  • Function: Used for charging and storage of U922 and U922K units.
  • Usage recommendation: Keep the unit in the charger or storage rack when not in use.
  • Absence indication: If connected to the system bus, the system can provide automatic absence indication when the transceiver is in the charging rack.
  • Paging indication: The absence can be indicated in the unit that initiated the paging (e.g., a control keyboard).
  • Communication: Communicates with other units in the system via A/B-bus.
  • Battery type sensing: Can sense the type of battery the pocket unit is equipped with.
  • Versions: Two versions: Master (T962M) and extension (T962E).
    • Only one extension can be connected to the master.
    • T962E can be used as a stand-alone charger.

Charging Rack and Desktop Charger (General):

  • Low battery warning: Recharge the battery pack as soon as possible when a low battery warning is displayed.
  • Desktop charger indication: Green LED on the desktop charger indicates a fully charged battery.
  • Charging rack indication: A steady LED on the U922 indicates a fully charged battery in a charging rack.
  • Charging frequency: The unit should be charged once every 24 hours.
  • Charging time: Charging takes approximately one hour.

In case of a Broken Unit:

  • SIM card: The transceiver memory consists of a SIM card located behind the battery pack.
  • SIM card removal:
    • Slide the locking plate to the right and lift the card holder to remove the SIM card.
    • The SIM card can be easily removed for replacement or to be put in another unit.
    • Put the SIM card in the new unit.
    • Send the broken unit for service.
