  If you're experiencing insufficient pressure in your ASI Dental equipment handpiece, begin by checking the air tank pressure gauge to ensure it reads 75psi before adjusting the handpiece block. Make sure the correct adjustment stem on the control block for that handpiece is opened. Verify that the exhaust air tubes and oil mist recovery jar are allowing air to exhaust freely. Also, inspect for kinks in the foot control tubing, and check the handpiece gaskets, bulkhead gasket, and turbine condition.

  If there is no water flowing through your ASI Dental equipment ultrasonic handpiece, but water flows to other handpieces, make sure the switch on the foot pedal is in the correct water position (indicated by a blue dot). Check that the adjustment needle valve on the front of the cart is fully open. Ensure the ultrasonic tip is secure and is the correct type with a water port. Check the water pressure, stem on control block, and trace where the water is stopping.

  If your ASI Dental equipment suction canister won't purge or empty, the pick-up tube in the canister may be clogged; remove and clean the amalgam sediment bowl. Alternatively, the peristaltic purge hose tubing may be clogged or misaligned in the pump; try massaging the tubing to clear it or adjust the tubing in the pump. If necessary, replace the tubing.

What to check if ultrasonic handpiece or instrument does not operate on my ASI Dental equipment?

  If your ASI Dental equipment ultrasonic handpiece or instrument isn't working, ensure the US tip is tight on the handpiece. Verify the dental unit has air pressure at 80 psi and that the foot control is working correctly. Verify the lock lever on the side of the holder is pointing straight down to the floor. Check the circuit breaker for the ultrasonic on the back of the dental unit. Check the handpiece pressure gauge. If there is no reading, make sure the correct adjustment stem on the control block portion for the Ultrasonic is open sufficiently to allow the air pressure to reach the air/electric switch. Check continuity output from Newtron Module, Transformer, Terminal Block. Testing line continuity using a multimeter will determine broken wires in the tubing.

Check that the foot control tubing is not kinked, holding air pressure on the plunger, which keeps the valve open. If needed, replace the valve.
