Do you have a question about the ASKOMA ASKOHEAT-F+ 2.0 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The ASKOHEAT-F+ 2.0 is a flange heater designed for use with drinking and heating water, available in Ø 240 mm and Ø 280 mm sizes. It is intended for permanent connection to permanently installed cables and must be installed horizontally; installation from above or below is not permitted for safety reasons. Before operation, ensure the heating tubes are entirely covered with liquid and that liquid circulation through the heater is not blocked.

Function Description

The ASKOHEAT-F+ 2.0 can be switched in 3 or 7 stages using the ASKOHEAT-RC+ control unit. If the heater is not connected to the control unit, it defaults to the highest heating level until the temperature set on its integrated thermostat is reached. The maximum temperature can be continuously adjusted using a rotary knob on the flange heater, ranging from "Off" to approximately 85 °C, with 65 °C recommended for economic reasons. Once the set temperature is reached, the appliance automatically switches off and reactivates as needed.

The ASKOHEAT-RC+ control unit offers several functionalities:

  • Display: Shows information about the heater, network connection (including IP address if connected), heat output, heating function, temperature (from the heater and optional additional sensors), and error messages.
  • Emergency Mode ("Emergency On"): Activated by a dedicated button, this mode immediately switches on maximum heating power, useful in case of failure or if additional heat is required. The temperature is digitally limited to 60°C in this mode. For safety, the device automatically reverts to normal function after 24 hours. Pressing the button again deactivates emergency mode.
  • Factory-Set: A button to reset the device to factory settings, deleting all customized configurations.
  • Service: Allows assigning a permanent IP address (192.168.222.222) to the device.
  • Analogue Control: The device can be switched analogue via a 0-10 V (DC) input.
  • Heatpump Request: A potential-free contact (contacts 6 and 8 of connector X2) can be used to connect a heat pump switch-on signal, immediately activating maximum heat output.
  • Electricity Plant Lock: A blocking signal can be connected via contacts 3 and 8 of connector X2. Bridging these contacts prevents the heater from operating, ignoring all other signals and heating commands. This function is useful for applications like cooling with heat pumps in summer or preventing heating despite a PV surplus.
  • Modbus Protocol: TCP via LAN or RTU via RS485 and an API with JSON data are available for digital control.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Dimensions: Ø 240 mm & Ø 280 mm.
  • Electrical Connection: 3L/N/PE 400V 3~.
  • Power Consumption (Examples):
    • AHF240 / AHF280-TI-plus-9.5: 9.5 kW (Heating group Z1 (A) 3.5 kW, Heating group Z1 (B) 6.0 kW)
    • AHF240 / AHF280-TI-plus-11.9: 11.9 kW (Heating group Z1 (A) 4.4 kW, Heating group Z1 (B) 7.5 kW)
    • AHF240 / AHF280-TI-plus-15.8: 15.8 kW (Heating group Z1 (A) 5.8 kW, Heating group Z1 (B) 10.0 kW)
    • AHF240 / AHF280-TI-plus-10.0: 10.0 kW (Heating group Z1 (A) 5.0 kW, Heating group Z1 (B) 5.0 kW)
    • AHF240 / AHF280-TI-plus-15.0: 15.0 kW (Heating group Z1 (A) 7.5 kW, Heating group Z1 (B) 7.5 kW)
    • AHF240 / AHF280-TI-plus-20.0: 20.0 kW (Heating group Z1 (A) 10.0 kW, Heating group Z1 (B) 10.0 kW)
  • Safety Temperature Limiter: Trips at temperatures below approx. –10 °C (e.g., during transportation or storage) and can be reset with a "00 screwdriver" through the "Reset" opening once the temperature has cooled by approximately 10 K.
  • Corrosion Protection: Features a DIP switch for selecting between "black steel tank" (factory setting) and "stainless steel tank" modes, optimizing for different boiler materials.
  • Electrical Connection Requirements: Cable cross-section must correspond to the device's power rating. All poles must be disconnectable from the mains via an isolating distance of at least 3 mm. The PE wire must be 100 mm longer than other conductors.
  • Applicable Standards: EN60335-1/-2-21/-2-73 (Safety), EN55014-1/-2 (EMV), EN62233 (EMF), EN60529 (IP Code).
  • Network Connection: The ASKOHEAT-RC+ connects to a local network via a CAT5 cable. WLAN is not supported. A direct connection to a router with DHCP server is recommended. An internet connection is required for local clock synchronization and updates, though the system can function without LAN/Internet with restrictions. The device can be accessed via http://askoheat-eth, http://askoheat.local, or its IP address (e.g., http://192.168.0.23).

Usage Features

  • Control Unit Installation: The ASKOHEAT-RC+ control unit can be wall-mounted by screwing its lower section to the wall. Optional accessories allow attachment to a hot water tank or pipe.
  • Status LED: Provides visual feedback on the device's operational status and faults:
    • RED/YELLOW flashing: No current flow despite relays being switched and target temperature not reached.
    • RED glowing: Interrupted data connection to ASKOHEAT-RC+.
    • YELLOW glowing or GREEN/YELLOW flashing: "Normal" heating.
    • GREEN glowing: Ready for use, but without connection to ASKOHEAT-RC+.
    • GREEN flashing: Connected to ASKOHEAT-RC+.
  • DIP Switch Settings: Position 1 is for stainless steel tanks, and Position 2 (factory setting) is for black steel/enamelled tanks.
  • Safety: Children aged 8 and above, and persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, may use the device under supervision and after understanding the hazards. Children must not play with or clean the device unsupervised. Installation, adjustment, and removal must only be carried out by specialists.

Maintenance Features

  • Regular Descaling: In hard water areas, the heater must be descaled regularly (e.g., 2x/year) to prevent scale buildup, which can activate the safety temperature limiter or cause thermal overloading, voiding the guarantee.
  • Cleaning: The device must be cleaned (descaled) with a suitable professional descaling agent, such as citric acid.
  • Service Access: For maintenance or part replacement, the device must be disconnected from the power supply. All plugs must be removed before opening the cover.
  • Documentation Retention: Assembly bolts, sealing paste, and installation instructions/user manual must be kept with the system for service purposes.
  • Malfunction: If the safety temperature limiter activates, it indicates a fault or error, and the system must be checked by a specialist.
