Trouble & Possible Cause Symptom & Remedy
G. Poor air circulation within the unit.
1. Motor not developing full speed.
2. Fan blade loose.
3. Test piece too large or obstruction to air
flow.
H. Corrosion of interior surfaces.
1. Apparent rusting of stainless interior.
REMEDY: See I-1.
1a. Low voltage.
REMEDY: Remove excessive load from the
line or use booster transformer.
1b. Shaft dragging on insulation in wall.
REMEDY: Turn shaft by hand until shaft
provides its own clearance (insulation
sometimes shifts during shipment.)
2a. Blade hitting.
REMEDY: Tighten set screw securely and
provide ample running clearance.
3a. Area too small for the application or test
piece improperly oriented.
REMEDY: Larger chamber needed or
rearrange test piece.
1a. Improper cleaning procedures, corrosive
materials, generated by test piece, rust
deposited from ferrous material of test
fixtures, etc...
REMEDY: The interior is a high alloy (18
chromium, 8 nickel) stainless steel which has
extraordinary high resistance to corrosion.
Wash interior regularly with mild soap,
particularly following exposure to acid or
other highly corrosive compounds. DO NOT
clean with steel wool or permit ferrous
materials to rub on stainless surfaces,
particles or iron will imbed in the stainless
and rust. Gummy deposits if allowed to
remain may result in electrolytic action and
pitting.
