When selecting a suitable
site for operation many
factors need to be taken into
consideration. Selecting a site
without anticipating problems
could lead to unsatisfactory
operation and conveyor
relocation could be required.
Some things to consider when
selecting a site:
• Ground stability. If the
ground is too soft or
unstable, proper leveling
and loading may be
impossible.
• Ample Room. The conveyor
must be located
so ample room is
available. Leave plenty of
room around the conveyor
to facilitate access of
loading equipment,
stockpiles and service
personnel.
• Drainage. Proper drainage
is important to allow for
runoff of normal rainfall.
• Wind direction. Prevailing
wind direction and its effect
on the operator or loading
personnel.
Site Selection and Preparation
Location of the conveyor is
usually determined by the
location of the intake and
discharge of material to be
conveyed.
Keep area around the conveyor
clear and level so that loading
of the conveyor and discharge
of the material is as convenient
as possible. The conveyor
work site must have solid,
compacted ground. If the
ground is too soft or unstable,
proper leveling and loading
may be impossible.
The conveyor tail section must
have adequate clearance all
around to allow for maintenance
and the removal of material
spillage.
Conveyor Tie Down
If wind conditions are higher
than 40 mph, conveyor
operation must be stopped and
conveyor secured to prevent
tip-over. Conveyor will only
need to be secured if it is not
part of a fi xed assembly. If it is
not part of a fi xed assembly, tie
down bolts must be anchored
in concrete and cables or
chains with tighteners must be
used to anchor the conveyor.
Level Conveyor
The conveyor must be kept
level to maintain proper
balance and performance.
If the conveyor is operated in
an unlevel condition, the frame
could develop a permanent
twist.
