Overview

This document is a user guide for the ASUS VG32V Series LCD Monitor, providing comprehensive instructions for setup, operation, and maintenance.

Function Description

The ASUS VG32V Series LCD Monitor is a widescreen display designed to offer a crisp, broader, and brighter viewing experience. It incorporates a host of features aimed at enhancing user interaction and visual quality, particularly for gaming and multimedia consumption. The monitor supports various input sources, including HDMI and DisplayPort, allowing for flexible connectivity with different devices.

The monitor features an On-Screen Display (OSD) menu, which serves as the primary interface for adjusting various image and system settings. This menu is navigated using a control button located on the bottom of the monitor, typically a 5-way joystick-like button.

A key feature of this monitor is GameVisual™ Video Intelligence Technology, which offers seven preset video modes tailored for different content types:

  • Scenery Mode: Optimized for displaying scenery photos.
  • Racing Mode: Best suited for racing games.
  • Cinema Mode: Ideal for watching movies.
  • RTS/RPG Mode: Designed for Real-Time Strategy (RTS) and Role-Playing Games (RPG).
  • FPS Mode: Specifically for First Person Shooter (FPS) games.
  • sRGB Mode: Best for viewing photos and graphics from PCs.
  • MOBA Mode: Optimized for Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) games.

Another significant function is GamePlus, a toolkit that provides in-game enhancements to improve the gaming experience. This includes features like Crosshair, Timer, FPS Counter, Display Alignment, and Sniper mode. These tools are particularly useful for new gamers or those interested in FPS games, offering an advantage by providing on-screen overlays.

The monitor also includes a Blue Light Filter to reduce the emission of harmful high-energy blue light from the LED backlight. This feature is designed to alleviate eye strain and help prevent conditions like Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) and Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS). The filter offers multiple levels of reduction, with Level 4 being an optimized setting compliant with TUV Low Blue Light Certification.

For image customization, the monitor provides a Color function, allowing users to adjust Brightness, Contrast, Saturation, Color Temperature (Cool, Normal, Warm, and User modes), and Skin Tone (Reddish, Natural, and Yellowish).

The Image function offers advanced controls for picture quality, including:

  • HDR (High Dynamic Range): Provides two HDR modes (ASUS Cinema HDR and ASUS Gaming HDR) for enhanced contrast and color.
  • Sharpness: Adjusts the clarity of the picture.
  • VividPixel: An ASUS Exclusive Technology that enhances visuals for crystal-clear and detail-oriented enjoyment.
  • Adaptive-Sync/FreeSync: Dynamically adjusts the display refresh rate based on content frame rates, ensuring power-efficient, stutter-free, and low-latency display updates with compatible graphics sources.
  • ELMB SYNC: Decreases motion blur and minimizes ghosting for fast-moving on-screen objects.
  • Shadow Boost: Enhances dark tones in an image, making dark scenes and objects easier to discern.
  • Aspect Control: Adjusts the aspect ratio to "Full," "4:3," or "OverScan."
  • ASCR (ASUS Smart Contrast Ratio): Enables or disables dynamic contrast ratio.
  • Trace Free: Speeds up the response time using Over Drive technology.

The Input Select function allows users to choose between HDMI-1, HDMI-2, or DisplayPort input signals.

Finally, the System Setup menu provides access to various system configurations, including GameVisual Demo Mode, Volume control, ECO Mode for power saving, OSD Setup (Timeout, DDC/CI, Transparency), Language selection, Key Lock, Information display, Power Indicator control, Power Key Lock, and an All Reset option to revert settings to factory defaults. The MyFavorite function allows users to load and save their preferred monitor settings.

Usage Features

The monitor is designed for ease of assembly and adjustment. To assemble, the monitor arm and base are connected using a bundled screw, with a recommendation to keep the monitor in its packaging during this process to prevent damage.

Physical adjustments include:

  • Tilt: The monitor's angle can be adjusted from +20° to -5° for optimal viewing comfort.
  • Swivel: It allows a 62° swivel adjustment to either the left or right.
  • Height Adjustment: The monitor's height can be adjusted within a range of +/- 14cm.

For VESA wall mounting, the detachable stand can be removed by unscrewing four screws at the rear of the monitor, allowing it to be mounted on a compatible wall bracket (purchased separately).

The OSD menu is intuitive, with navigation primarily through the 5-way control button. Users can press the center button to activate the OSD, use up/down buttons to toggle options, and left/right buttons to adjust parameters or move between menus. The "X" button serves to exit the OSD menu. Hotkeys are provided for quick access to GameVisual and GamePlus functions.

The GamePlus features, such as Crosshair, Timer, FPS Counter, and Display Alignment, can be activated and customized through the GamePlus main menu. Sniper mode requires HDR to be disabled on the device.

The Blue Light Filter is a user-selectable option, with different levels offering varying degrees of blue light reduction. It's important to note that activating the Blue Light Filter may automatically import default settings for Racing Mode, and certain levels may restrict the configurability of the Brightness function.

Maintenance Features

The user guide emphasizes several key aspects for maintaining the monitor and ensuring its longevity and safe operation:

Care & Cleaning:

  • Before moving or cleaning the monitor, disconnect all cables and the power cord.
  • When lifting or carrying, grasp the edges of the monitor, avoiding the stand or cord.
  • Clean the monitor surface with a lint-free, non-abrasive cloth. Stubborn stains can be removed with a cloth dampened with a mild cleaner.
  • Avoid cleaners containing alcohol or acetone. Use cleaners specifically intended for LCDs.
  • Never spray cleaner directly onto the screen to prevent liquid from dripping inside and causing electric shock.

General Safety Information:

  • Always read all documentation before setting up the monitor.
  • To prevent fire or shock hazards, keep the monitor away from rain and moisture.
  • Never attempt to open the monitor cabinet due to dangerous high voltages inside.
  • If the power supply is broken, contact a qualified service technician or retailer; do not attempt self-repair.
  • Ensure all cables are correctly connected and undamaged before use.
  • Do not block ventilation slots on the back or top of the cabinet. Avoid placing the product near radiators or heat sources without proper ventilation.
  • Operate the monitor only from the specified power source indicated on the label.
  • Use the appropriate power plug for your local power standard.
  • Avoid overloading power strips and extension cords to prevent fire or electric shock.
  • Protect the monitor from dust, humidity, and extreme temperatures. Place it on a stable surface.
  • Unplug the unit during lightning storms or prolonged periods of disuse to protect against power surges.
  • Never insert objects or spill liquid into the monitor cabinet.
  • Use the monitor only with UL listed computers with appropriate configured receptacles (100 ~ 240V AC).
  • The socket-outlet should be easily accessible and installed near the equipment.
  • If technical problems arise, contact a qualified service technician or retailer.
  • Ensure an earthing connection is established before connecting the mains plug, and disconnect it after pulling out the mains plug when disconnecting the earthing connection.

Troubleshooting (FAQ):

The manual includes a troubleshooting section to address common issues:

  • Power LED not ON: Check if the monitor is ON, power cord connection, and Power Indicator function in OSD.
  • Power LED amber, no screen image: Check if monitor and computer are ON, signal cable connection, bent pins, and test with another monitor.
  • Screen image too light or dark: Adjust Contrast and Brightness via OSD.
  • Screen image bounces or wave pattern: Check signal cable connection, and move electrical devices causing interference.
  • Screen image color defects: Inspect signal cable, perform OSD Reset, adjust R/G/B color settings, or select Color Temperature via OSD.
  • No sound or low sound: Adjust volume settings on both monitor and computer, and ensure sound card driver is installed and activated.

The document also highlights normal symptoms with the monitor, such as screen flickering during initial use (which can be resolved by turning the power off and on), slightly uneven brightness depending on the desktop pattern, and afterimages if the same image is displayed for extended periods (which will recover slowly or by turning off the monitor). It explicitly states that if the screen becomes black, flashes, or stops working, users should contact their dealer or service center and not attempt repairs themselves.
