Overview

This document outlines the operating instructions and parts manual for the ATD-81047 Heavy Duty Tool Box Creeper Seat, a versatile device designed for automotive maintenance and service.

Function Description

The ATD-81047 is engineered to serve a dual purpose: as a comfortable creeper seat and a portable toolbox. Its primary function is to support and transport one person, along with their tools and equipment, on smooth, level surfaces during automotive tasks. The integrated toolbox provides organized storage for various tools, enhancing efficiency and convenience for the user. The device is specifically designed for automotive maintenance and service applications and is not intended for any other use.

Usage Features

Safety First: The manual emphasizes several critical safety precautions to prevent personal injury and property damage. Users are strongly advised to read, understand, and follow all provided instructions and warnings before operating the device. Key safety guidelines include:

  • Capacity: The device has a rated capacity of 450 lbs, which includes the user, tools, and any other equipment. This limit must not be exceeded.
  • Surface Requirements: The creeper seat should only be used on smooth, level, and seamless surfaces to ensure stability and prevent accidents.
  • Sitting Posture: Users must sit gently and centrally on the seat pad. Sitting on the edge is strictly prohibited. Jumping or falling onto the seat, which could cause shock loads, should be avoided.
  • Standing Prohibition: Standing on the product is not allowed.
  • Child Safety: The device is not suitable for children and should be kept out of their reach.
  • Pinch and Laceration Hazards: Users must keep their hands away from pinch and laceration points that may be created during use.
  • Alertness: Operators should be alert and sober when using the product.
  • Chemical Warning: The product may contain chemicals, including lead, known to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm in California. Users are advised to wash their hands after handling the device.

Pre-Use Inspection: Before each use, a thorough inspection of the device is mandatory. Users should check for any broken, bent, cracked, or damaged parts, including labels. If any part appears damaged, operates abnormally, or is missing, the device must be immediately removed from service, and the manufacturer should be notified. If the product is suspected to have been subjected to a shock load (e.g., dropped suddenly), its use must be discontinued until it has been inspected by a factory-authorized service center. An annual inspection by qualified personnel is recommended.

Assembly Instructions: The ATD-81047 comes with a Hex Key-Philips Screwdriver Combo Tool, which is the only tool required for assembly. The assembly process involves:

  1. Frame Assembly: Inserting the front frame section into the channel sections of the toolbox sub-assembly, aligning screw holes, and threading screws with washers. Screws should not be tightened initially.
  2. Caster and Tool Tray Assembly: Simultaneously positioning a caster stud into a lower frame hole and placing a tool tray into position by aligning the lower frame thru-hole with the corresponding hole in the tool tray. A caster fastener is then inserted into the swivel caster stud.
  3. Repetition and Tightening: Repeating the caster and tool tray assembly for the remaining components. Once all tool trays are successfully installed, all assemblies should be hand-tightened using the provided Combo Tool.
  4. Final Checks: Ensuring that all casters swivel and roll easily and that the toolbox drawers move smoothly.

Operating Procedures:

  • Drawer Use: Tools should be loaded carefully into the drawers. Drawers are opened by pulling and closed by pushing.
  • Tool Storage: After using a tool, it should be wiped clean and dry before being returned to the toolbox.
  • Material Storage Restrictions: The toolbox seat is explicitly NOT suitable for storing flammable, combustible, or corrosive materials.

Maintenance Features

The ATD-81047 requires minimal maintenance to ensure its longevity and proper function.

  • Cleaning: The device should be wiped clean as needed. For the seat, a mild (non-caustic) upholstery cleaner can be used for cleaning.
  • Caster Lubrication: It is crucial NOT to lubricate the casters. This specific instruction highlights a design consideration where lubrication might hinder their intended function or cause other issues.

By adhering to these guidelines, users can ensure safe and effective operation of their ATD-81047 Heavy Duty Tool Box Creeper Seat, maximizing its utility in automotive maintenance and service environments.
