The S6 subwoofer is designed to reproduce low-frequency sounds, commonly known as bass, that your main speakers might not be able to handle effectively. By integrating the S6 into your audio system, you can achieve a fuller, more impactful sound, especially for music and movies that benefit from strong bass presence. The subwoofer features a 6-inch custom front-firing woofer, ensuring that the bass is directed forward for optimal sound dispersion. It includes a built-in amplifier, meaning it's a "powered" subwoofer that doesn't require an external amplifier to drive it. The S6 is equipped with dual audio inputs, allowing you to connect two different audio sources simultaneously, offering flexibility in your setup. A key feature is its auto-sleep power saving mode, which helps conserve energy by automatically entering standby when no audio signal is detected for a period. This mode can be bypassed if continuous operation is preferred.
Setting up the Audioengine S6 is designed to be straightforward. Before making any connections, ensure the power switch on the rear panel is in the OFF position. You can connect the S6 to your audio source (powered speakers, AV receiver, preamp, or soundcard) using either the included mini-jack audio cable or the RCA audio cable. The S6 offers both 3.5mm mini-jack and RCA Left/Right line-level inputs, which are active simultaneously. If your preamp or AV receiver has a dedicated LFE (Low Frequency Effects) output, you should use the single Left/LFE input on the S6 rear panel for optimal performance. Once connected, plug the AC power cord into the subwoofer and then into a functioning power outlet. Finally, move the power switch to the ON position, and the power indicator will illuminate.
The S6 provides several controls on its rear panel to fine-tune its performance to your specific listening environment and preferences. The Volume control allows you to match the subwoofer's output level with your main speakers. The best approach is to adjust it for strong bass without it sounding "boomy." It's important to note that this control only adjusts the S6's volume, not the overall system volume, which is typically managed by your music source.

A Phase switch (0°/180°) is included to adjust the phase relationship between the subwoofer and your other speakers. After positioning the S6, you can toggle this switch while listening to identify the setting that yields the most bass. Sometimes, the difference might be subtle or unnoticeable, which is normal, as the optimal phase can depend on your room acoustics and the subwoofer's location.
The Auto standby on/off switch manages the power-saving mode. When "Auto on" is selected, the S6 will automatically enter Standby mode after 15 minutes of no audio signal, indicated by an amber power/standby indicator. If you prefer the subwoofer to remain active continuously, you can switch this feature to "Off." The Power on/Standby indicator will be green when an input signal is present (music is playing) and amber when no signal is detected, signifying it's in Standby mode.
For added convenience, the S6 includes a 5V aux power port (5V=500mA) on the rear panel. This port is particularly useful for powering wireless adapters, such as the Audioengine W3, allowing for flexible placement of the subwoofer away from your main speakers or music system without needing an additional power outlet for the wireless receiver.
The Audioengine S6 is designed for durability and ease of care. For cleaning, it is recommended to use only a soft, dry cloth to wipe down the cabinets. Avoid using any solvents or harsh cleaners, as these could damage the finish or components of the subwoofer. The detachable woofer grill can be removed for cleaning or if you prefer the aesthetic of the exposed woofer.
In terms of long-term care, the S6 is built with high-quality materials and components. Should any issues arise, Audioengine provides a 3-year Limited Warranty on parts and labor for products purchased in the United States. This warranty is automatic and does not require registration. For warranty coverage outside the US, customers should contact their local Audioengine reseller or distributor. The warranty covers defective parts or faulty workmanship but excludes damage from accidents, misuse, neglect, excessive moisture, lightning, power surges, unauthorized modifications, or failure to follow instructions. If service is needed, Audioengine will repair or replace defective parts within a reasonable timeframe, free of charge during the warranty period. Customers are responsible for shipping charges to Audioengine or an authorized dealer and are advised to retain original shipping materials to prevent damage during transit.
