Overview

The AT-Series digital pocket scale is a precision measuring device designed for accurate weighing in various units. It is available in two models: the AT-100, with a capacity of 100g and a readability of 0.01g, and the AT-500, with a capacity of 500g and a readability of 0.1g. Both models are compact and portable, making them suitable for a wide range of applications where precise weight measurement is required.

Function Description

The primary function of the AT-Series scale is to measure the weight of items with high accuracy. Users can easily switch between different units of measure, depending on their specific needs. The AT-100 model supports grams (g), ounces (oz), carats (ct), and grains (gn), while the AT-500 model supports grams (g), ounces (oz), troy ounces (ozt), and pennyweights (dwt). This versatility makes the scale suitable for weighing a variety of small items, from jewelry and precious metals to powders and ingredients.

The scale operates with a simple interface, featuring an ON/OFF key for power control, a MODE key for unit selection, a TARE key for subtracting container weights, and a CAL key for calibration. The digital display provides clear weight readings, and a weight indicator helps users monitor the stability of the measurement.

Usage Features

To begin using the scale, place it on a flat, level surface and press the ON/OFF key. The scale will perform a brief start-up process and then display zero, indicating it is ready for weighing. For accurate readings, it is crucial to wait a few seconds for the display to stabilize after placing an item on the weighing platform.

Changing the unit of measure is straightforward: simply press the MODE key to cycle through the available units. The scale is designed to remember the last unit used, so when it is turned off and back on, it will default to that unit, saving time for frequent users.

A key feature of the AT-Series scale is its tare function. This allows users to subtract the weight of an empty container or vessel, enabling them to measure only the net weight of the contents. To use this feature, place the empty container on the weighing platform and press the TARE key. The display will reset to zero. You can then add the items to be weighed into the container, and the display will show only the weight of the items. If the container is removed after taring, its weight will be displayed as a negative number. To return to normal weight display (gross weight), remove all items from the platform and press the TARE key again to re-zero the scale.

The scale is powered by two AAA alkaline batteries, ensuring portability and ease of use without the need for an external power source. Before initial use, it is important to check the battery compartment for any plastic insulation strips that might prevent battery drainage during shipping and storage, and remove them if present. When replacing batteries, ensure the positive and negative contacts are correctly aligned to ensure proper function.

Maintenance Features

Proper care and maintenance are essential to ensure the longevity and accuracy of your AT-Series digital pocket scale. Here are some key maintenance tips:

  • Avoid Overloading: Never exceed the scale's maximum capacity. Overloading can permanently damage the weighing sensors and compromise accuracy.
  • Temperature Control: Scales perform best at normal room temperature. Avoid exposing the scale to extreme heat or cold, as dramatic temperature changes can affect its performance and may necessitate recalibration. If the scale has been exposed to significant temperature fluctuations, allow it to warm up for 30-60 seconds before use or calibration.
  • Clean and Dry Storage: Store the scale in a clean, dry location. Dust, dirt, and moisture can accumulate on the weighing sensors and electronics, leading to inaccuracies or malfunctions.
  • Stable Weighing Surface: Always weigh items on a flat, level surface that is free from vibrations and drafts. The corner of a room is often the most stable location for weighing.
  • Gentle Handling: Apply items to be weighed gently onto the platform. Avoid dropping items or the scale itself, as rough treatment can cause damage that is not covered by warranty.
  • Electromagnetic Interference: Avoid using the scale in close proximity to strong radio wave-emitting devices such as computers, cash registers, and cordless phones, as these can interfere with readings.
  • Battery Check: If you encounter any issues with your scale, the first step in troubleshooting should always be to check the batteries. Low or improperly installed batteries are a common cause of scale problems.
  • Calibration and Adjustment: While calibration and adjustment are performed at the factory, it is recommended to check calibration periodically, especially after shipping or moving the scale to a new location, due to potential shifts in the weighing range or local gravitational acceleration. To check calibration, place the required calibration weight on the scale and note the displayed value. If it falls outside the acceptable tolerance, adjustment is needed.
    • To adjust the scale, press and hold the CAL key until "CAL" appears on the display.
    • Press the CAL key again; the display will flash "CAL" followed by the calibration weight value.
    • Carefully place the correct calibration weight (100g for AT-100, 500g for AT-500) on the center of the weighing platform.
    • Once the weight is accepted, the display will show "PASS" and return to normal operation.
  • No User Serviceable Parts: The AT-Series scale is not designed for user disassembly. Attempting to disassemble the scale will void the warranty and may cause further damage, as it contains no user-serviceable parts.

Troubleshooting and Error Codes

The manual provides guidance for common issues:

  • If the scale does not turn on, check the batteries.
  • If the displayed weight fluctuates randomly, ensure your workspace is stable and free from air currents or vibration.
  • If the displayed weight is inaccurate, perform a calibration adjustment.

The scale also displays specific error codes to help diagnose problems:

  • OUT2: Indicates that the zero range has shifted. A calibration adjustment is required. If the problem persists, it may signify permanent damage to the load cell due to overloading.
  • 88888: Signifies that the maximum capacity has been exceeded. Remove the extra weight immediately to prevent damage to the load cell.
  • L: Indicates low batteries, which need to be replaced.

By following these guidelines, users can ensure reliable and accurate performance from their AT-Series digital pocket scale for many years.
