The "A4988" requires two power supply connections. One for logic pins and
one for the motor power supply:
VDD and GND are used to operate the driver's internal logic (from 3V to
5.5V), so we can use either the microcontroller board or Raspberry Pi as the
control unit for this device.
VMOT and GND are used to power the motor from 8V to 35V. According to
the data sheet, the motor supply requires a suitable decoupling capacitor
near the board that is capable of supplying 4A current.
WARNING: This driver has low ESR ceramic capacitors, which makes
it susceptible to voltage spikes. In some cases, these spikes can
exceed 35V (maximum rated voltage of A4988), which can cause
permanent damage to the circuit board and/or the stepper motor.
