Overview

This document outlines the installation and setup procedures for the Azuga SafetyCam AI Auxiliary Camera, designed to enhance fleet safety by providing additional viewing angles. The auxiliary camera integrates with Azuga AI dashcams, serving as a supplementary device to capture live footage from various vantage points around a vehicle. This allows for a more comprehensive visual record of events during a trip, contributing to improved fleet management and incident analysis.

The auxiliary camera is available in two main mounting configurations: wrap-mount and flush-mount. Each configuration includes specific components tailored for its installation method. For wrap-mount cameras, the package typically contains the auxiliary camera itself, a silicone pad, and two sizes of hose clamps (small and large). The silicone pad is a crucial element for wrap-mount installations, featuring ridges that provide cushioning for the camera when secured with hose clamps. This design helps to ensure a better seal, prevent scratching of the vehicle's surface, and absorb vibrations, contributing to the camera's stability and longevity. The hose clamps, available in different sizes, are used to firmly attach the camera to a desired location on the vehicle, such as a mirror arm or a railing.

For flush-mount cameras, the package includes the auxiliary camera, a pre-attached 1.8-meter power cable, and a mounting bracket. The power cable is designed to connect directly to the vehicle's power source, with a red wire for power (12V or 24V ignition circuit) and a black wire for ground (vehicle ground/chassis). The mounting bracket is integral to the flush-mount installation, allowing the camera to be securely screwed into the vehicle's structure. This method ensures a stable and integrated fit, particularly important for locations where the camera needs to be flush with the vehicle's surface.

A key feature of the auxiliary camera is its ability to be installed in multiple locations around the vehicle, with support for up to three auxiliary cameras per vehicle. This flexibility allows fleet managers to customize their surveillance setup, capturing angles that are most relevant to their operational needs, such as side views, rear views, or specific blind spots. The cameras are designed to provide live footage, which can be accessed through the main dashcam system.

Before installing any auxiliary cameras, it is imperative that the main Azuga SafetyCam AI dashcam is already installed and associated with the user's Azuga Fleet account. This ensures proper integration and functionality of the auxiliary units. The installation process for the auxiliary camera involves connecting its power cable to the vehicle's ignition power source, ensuring it is fused at 2 amps. The red wire connects to the ignition circuit, and the black wire connects to the vehicle's ground.

Once physically installed and powered, each auxiliary camera must be associated with the main camera through a Wi-Fi setup process. This pairing procedure involves several steps:

  1. Preparation: Ensure the auxiliary camera is powered on and that the main camera is awake (this can be achieved by slightly moving the vehicle if it's in sleep mode). The vehicle's parking brake should also be engaged, and the ignition turned on.
  2. Auxiliary Camera Reset: The auxiliary camera features a reset button, typically located on the side of the lens ball. To access it, the two screws at the bottom of the camera need to be loosened, and the lens ball moved. For pairing, the auxiliary camera needs to be reset by holding this button for 12 seconds. This action reboots the camera and unpairs it from any previous connections, making it discoverable.
  3. Main Camera Configuration: On the main dashcam unit, the user taps the screen, enters the default PIN (3333) to unlock it, and navigates to the "Settings" menu.
  4. Wi-Fi Activation: Within "Settings," the user selects "WiFi" and toggles the button to turn on the "Mobile Hotspot." This enables the main camera to broadcast a Wi-Fi network that the auxiliary cameras can connect to.
  5. Adding Cameras: After returning to the "Settings" menu, the user scrolls down and selects "Add Cameras." The main dashcam will then begin searching for available, unpaired auxiliary cameras.
  6. Confirmation: When an auxiliary camera is discovered, a snapshot from that camera will appear on the main dashcam's screen. The user confirms if this is the desired camera to pair by selecting "YES" or "NO." If "NO" is selected, the dashcam continues searching.
  7. Verification: After successful pairing, the user can verify the connection by navigating to "More Info" in the "Settings" menu, where details about the connected auxiliary cameras, such as "Ext. Cam 1: Connected & Recording," will be displayed.

The viewing angles of both wrap-mount and flush-mount cameras are adjustable to ensure optimal coverage. For wrap-mount cameras, adjustment involves loosening screws on each side of the lens at the bottom of the camera using a screwdriver, adjusting the lens to the desired angle, checking the view through dashcam recordings, and then tightening the screws. Similarly, for flush-mount cameras, the process involves loosening screws on each side of the mounting bracket, adjusting the lens, verifying the angle, and tightening the screws. This flexibility allows for fine-tuning the camera's perspective to capture specific areas of interest around the vehicle.

Maintenance features primarily revolve around the reset button. The auxiliary camera's reset button serves two main functions:

  • Reboot: Holding the button for three seconds reboots the auxiliary camera. This is useful for troubleshooting issues such as incorrect operation, problems with recordings, or live video not working. A reboot turns the camera off and then back on, often resolving minor software glitches.
  • Reboot and Unpair: Holding the button for twelve seconds reboots the camera and unpairs it from the main dashcam. This is essential when re-pairing the camera or preparing it for a new installation.

The camera cables are designed for straightforward connection, with a single wire splitting into red (power) and black (ground) for easy integration into the vehicle's electrical system. Each auxiliary camera is designed to be a robust and reliable component of the Azuga fleet safety solution, providing critical visual data to support fleet operations and incident management. The detailed installation and pairing instructions ensure that users can effectively deploy and manage these cameras to enhance their fleet's safety and monitoring capabilities.
