This document outlines the operation and maintenance of the BALCO™ Small Rooftop Tent, Model: OU200233, Version 1.1. This rooftop tent is designed to provide a convenient and elevated sleeping solution for outdoor enthusiasts, attaching directly to the roof racks of a vehicle.
The Small Rooftop Tent serves as a portable shelter that can be easily deployed on top of a car. It offers a secure and elevated sleeping area, protecting occupants from ground-level elements and potential wildlife. The tent is designed for quick setup and takedown, making it suitable for various camping and travel scenarios. It features a robust bedframe and a telescopic ladder for access. The tent's fabric components are engineered for weather resistance, providing protection against rain and UV radiation. When not in use, the tent folds compactly and is covered by a waterproof outer cover, ensuring its integrity during transit.
The operation of the Small Rooftop Tent involves several key steps, from installation to unfolding and folding away.
Installation: Installing the tent requires at least two people due to its size and weight. It should be mounted on suitable roof racks, ensuring there is more than 3cm clearance between the roof rack and the car roof. The tent is designed to open over either the passenger or driver side doors, not over the boot of the car. Before installation, the tent needs to be removed from its box and placed on a clean surface, with access to its bottom. The two connecting tubes on the bottom of the tent indicate its correct orientation. If these tubes are not visible, the tent should be carefully turned over by two people to prevent damage.
Once the tent is correctly oriented, the direction and distance of the two-connecting tubes on the bottom of the tent need to be adjusted to match the roof rack's configuration. This involves loosening and then tightening screws. The tent is then lifted onto the car roof and adjusted to an appropriate position, ensuring that the boot door can still be opened without hitting the tent.
Securing the tent involves sliding M8 x 50 bolts into position within the connecting tube, with one bolt on each side of the rack. If the distance between the roof rack and the car roof is less than 4cm, shorter M8 x 30 bolts must be used instead. The bolts pass through a U-shaped fixing plate, followed by a flat washer and a spring washer. An M8 self-locking nut is then tightened using a ratchet wrench. This process is repeated for all four corners of the tent. Finally, plastic caps (30x30cm) are inserted into the ends of the connecting tubes to complete the installation.
Unfolding the Tent: To unfold the tent, first remove the outer cover. Then, firmly hold the lowest rung of the telescopic ladder and pull it towards yourself and away from the car. This action initiates the opening of the tent. Once the ladder is extended, it needs to be fully extended and locked into place. The front of the tent is secured by sliding poles into connectors on each front corner. The ladder's height can be adjusted using its rungs, and it should be positioned at a 75-degree angle to the ground for safe use. Inside the tent, roof poles are connected to each end of the small rooftop tent to provide structural support.
Folding Away the Tent: Before folding the tent, ensure that all windows are open and nothing is left inside. Release the roof poles at the front and inside the tent. To collapse the ladder, press and hold the button on its bottom. As the ladder folds, it simultaneously folds the small rooftop tent. Once folded, the tent is covered with its waterproof outer cover, which should be hooked securely around the bedframe.
Safety Warnings and Notes: Several warnings are provided to ensure safe operation and prevent damage. Windows must be open when folding the tent to prevent pressure buildup. No items should be left inside the tent before folding. Nothing should be placed on top of the tent, whether in use or not. The nuts securing the bedframe to the roof racks must be double-checked for tightness before driving. Strenuous exercise inside the tent is prohibited. The cover must be closed and the buckle lock securely fastened before driving, with a maximum driving speed of 110 KM per hour. The water-resistant cover must always be on and secured while driving.
Before using the ladder, all rungs must be locked, and all parts should be in good working condition. Damaged, worn-out, or chemically etched ladders should not be used. The ladder must be set on firm, level ground, free from gangue, ice, or snow, and should not stand on one leg. When climbing, ensure crosspieces are locked, face the ladder, hold firmly with both hands, and distribute body weight on the middle of the rungs. Do not climb on a single side or jump from the ladder. The top cross piece should not be pulled out unless the ladder is fully extended. The contract switch should not be pressed when the ladder is in use to avoid injury. The ladder must be kept clean from grease, dirt, snow, paint, and chemicals. Temporary maintenance on damaged ladder parts is not permitted. Both the bedframe and ladder are electric conductors and should be kept away from live parts. The ladder must be used at a 75-degree angle to the ground. Children should not be left unattended near the ladder.
When contracting the ladder, grasp the rod with one hand and press the left and right switches of the lowest crosspieces, collapsing it down-top sequentially and slowly, taking caution to avoid hand injuries. To extend the ladder, pull out rungs bottom-up sequentially, locking each rung carefully. Before extending, ensure the ground is flat. To adjust height, collapse the ladder first, then extend it to the desired height. The tent and ladder should not be used in strong winds. The ladder is designed for one person, with a maximum load of 150kg.
Maintenance of the Small Rooftop Tent is straightforward, primarily focusing on cleaning. The tent should be cleaned with a wet cloth. After cleaning, it is crucial to allow the tent to dry fully before folding it away to prevent mold or mildew growth and maintain the integrity of the fabric. Regular inspection of all components, especially the roof rack connections and ladder, is recommended to ensure continued safe operation.
