Overview

The Beckett GeniSys™ 120V Model 7505 is an advanced burner control designed for residential and light commercial oil burners. It serves as a 120 Vac primary safety control for applications such as boilers, furnaces, and water heaters, specifically those with firing rates less than 20 GPH. The control works in conjunction with a suitable cad cell flame sensor to manage the oil burner motor, igniter, and an optional solenoid valve. It features 24 Vac thermostat terminals, making it compatible with both mechanical and many power-stealing thermostats. The GeniSys 7505 also supports either interrupted or intermittent duty ignition.

Function Description:

The GeniSys 7505 manages the sequence of operation for an oil burner, ensuring safe and efficient performance. Its operational states include Standby, Valve-on Delay, Trial For Ignition, Lockout, Ignition Carryover, Run, Recycle, Motor-Off Delay, and Pump Prime.

  • Standby: The burner is idle, awaiting a call for heat.
  • Valve-on Delay: The igniter and motor are active, while the control delays energizing the oil solenoid valve for a programmed duration.
  • Trial For Ignition: The oil solenoid valve is energized, and a flame should be established within the factory-set lockout time.
  • Lockout: The control shuts down due to safety reasons, such as the trial for ignition time expiring without flame, flame detection during Valve On Delay, or flame loss during firing after a pre-set time. A soft lockout can be reset with a quick button press, while a hard lockout (Restricted Lockout) requires holding the reset button for 15 seconds.
  • Ignition Carryover: After flame establishment, the igniter remains on for an additional 10 seconds to ensure flame stability.
  • Run: The flame is sustained until the call for heat is satisfied.
  • Recycle: If flame is lost during firing, the control shuts down the burner, enters a 60-second recycle delay, and repeats the ignition sequence. This prevents excessive oil accumulation.
  • Motor-Off Delay: If applicable, the oil solenoid valve turns off, and the control delays turning off the motor for a set time before returning to standby.
  • Pump Prime: The igniter and motor are on, with the oil solenoid valve energized for 4 minutes. During this mode, the cad cell is disregarded, allowing technicians to prime the pump without needing to jumper the cad cell.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Inputs:
    • Voltage: 120 Vac nominal (102 to 132 Vac)
    • Current: 100 mA nominal (150 mA max at 132 Vac)
    • Frequency: 60 Hz
  • Outputs:
    • Motor: 120 Vac, 10 full load amps (FLA), 60 locked rotor amps (LRA). Note: Motor FLA rating is reduced by igniter current.
    • Igniter: 120 Vac, 3 A @ 0.7 PF min
    • Solenoid Valve: 120 Vac, 1 A @ 0.7 PF min
    • Thermostat Anticipator Current: 0.1 A (if applicable)

Usage Features:

  • Thermostat / Operating and Limit Control Compatible: Integrates with existing heating system controls.
  • Welded Relay Protection: Enhances safety by protecting against welded relay conditions.
  • Limited Recycle and Limited Reset: Prevents excessive attempts to restart the burner, reducing the risk of oil accumulation.
  • 3 Status Lights: Provides visual feedback on the control's operational status (Red for Restricted Lockout/Soft Lockout, Green for Flame Sensed/Recycle, Yellow for Pump Prime/Reset button held).
  • Valve-On Delay / Motor-Off Delay: Field programmable using an optional Beckett add-on display, allowing customization for specific applications.
  • Interrupted or Intermittent Duty Ignition: Supports different ignition strategies.
  • Technician Pump Priming Mode: Simplifies the priming process by powering the igniter, motor, and solenoid valve for 4 minutes while disregarding the cad cell.
  • Disable Function: Allows the burner to be temporarily shut off by pressing and holding the reset button while the burner is running.
  • Communication Ports (2): Facilitates connection with optional accessories like the Snap-on Display Module for programming and diagnostics, and the Snap-on Alarm Module for isolated low voltage alarm contacts.
  • Mounting: Can be mounted on a 4" x 4" junction box on the burner or inside the appliance cabinet. Any orientation is acceptable.

Maintenance Features:

  • Annual Professional Service Required: Oil heating systems require annual service by a qualified professional.
  • No Serviceable Internal Parts: The 7505 control has no user-serviceable internal components; removal of the cover is not recommended.
  • Inspection Checklist: During service, inspect the control's exterior for damage, test line voltage (102-132 Vac), inspect external wiring, verify lockout and operation sequence, observe a full operating cycle, and replace any control that does not meet specifications.
  • Cad Cell Resistance Measurement: If equipped with the GeniSys Display Module (part 52067U) or GeniSys Contractor Tool (part 52082U), cad cell resistance can be read on the LCD screen. Otherwise, it can be measured conventionally by unplugging the leads and using a meter.
  • Troubleshooting Lockouts: Before resetting from a restricted lockout, troubleshoot the heating system to identify the root cause. Ensure necessary repairs are made and the appliance is free of oil/oil vapor.
