Overview

This document provides comprehensive instructions for the Beko Refrigerator, model LSP4579W, covering its function, usage, and maintenance.

Function Description

The Beko Refrigerator is designed for the short-term storage and cooling of edible foodstuffs. It operates using a completely environmentally friendly refrigerant, R600a, which is flammable under certain conditions, emphasizing the importance of proper handling and ventilation. The appliance features a cooling system that automatically defrosts, with defrost water collected in a drain tray at the back. The interior temperature is regulated by a thermostat control, allowing users to select a desired cooling setting from 1 (lowest/warmest) to 5 (highest/coldest). The average temperature inside the fridge should be around +5°C, with the coldest region located immediately above the vegetable compartment. The appliance is equipped with a lighting source of "G" energy class, intended to assist users in placing foodstuffs safely and comfortably.

Usage Features

The refrigerator offers several features to optimize food storage and user convenience:

  • Temperature Control: Users can adjust the operating temperature using the thermostat control, with settings ranging from 1 to 5. It's important to note that internal temperatures may vary based on ambient temperature, door opening frequency, and food load.
  • Storage Compartments: The refrigerator includes movable shelves, a bottle holder, a dairy bin, a crisper cover, and a vegetable drawer.
    • Movable Shelves: These allow for flexible organization of food items.
    • Bottle Holder: This accessory is designed for storing bottles or cans side by side.
    • Dairy Bin (Cold Storage Bin): This compartment provides a lower temperature than the main refrigerator area, ideal for storing delicatessen items (salami, sausages, dairy products) or meat, chicken, and fish products intended for immediate consumption. Fruits and vegetables should not be stored here.
    • Vegetable Drawer: This is designed for storing fresh fruits and vegetables.
  • Food Arrangement Guidelines:
    • Cooked dishes should be stored in airtight covered containers.
    • Fresh wrapped produce can be placed on shelves.
    • Fresh fruit and vegetables should be cleaned and stored in the crisper bins.
    • Bottles can be placed in the door section.
    • Raw meat should be wrapped in polythene bags and placed on the lowest shelf, ensuring it does not contact cooked food to prevent contamination. Raw meat should only be stored for two to three days.
    • Food should be packed, wrapped, or covered, and hot food/beverages allowed to cool before being placed in the fridge.
    • Explosive substances and high-proof alcohol in unsealed containers should not be stored.
    • Some fruits and vegetables (pineapples, melons, cucumbers, tomatoes) sensitive to temperatures near 0°C should be wrapped in polythene bags.
    • Chilled cooked food should be placed near the rear of the fridge inner liner, where the cold wall is located.
    • All shelves, racks, crisper bins, drawers, flaps, and bottle grippers are removable for cleaning.
    • Frozen food should be defrosted slowly in the fridge to prevent food juices from dripping onto other food.
    • Food should always be wrapped in suitable packaging material to avoid contact with appliance surfaces and maintain hygiene.
  • Door Reversing: The door can be reversed to open from the opposite side, providing flexibility for appliance placement. This process involves removing and repositioning hinges, hinge bushings, and the handle, requiring careful attention to numerical order.
  • Installation and Placement: The appliance should be installed in a well-ventilated area, away from heat sources, humid places, and direct sunlight. It requires appropriate air ventilation and should be placed on an even floor surface. Minimum side clearances from cookers, radiators, and freezers are specified. The appliance should not be used in ambient temperatures below 10°C, as food in the fridge may freeze.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the appliance's performance and longevity:

  • Cleaning:
    • The appliance should be switched off and unplugged before cleaning.
    • Avoid using sharp abrasive instruments, soap, household cleaner, detergent, or wax polish.
    • The cabinet should be cleaned with lukewarm water and wiped dry.
    • The interior can be cleaned with a damp cloth wrung out in a solution of one teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda to one pint of water, then wiped dry.
    • Ensure no water enters the lamp housing.
    • The special plastic container (drain tray) at the back, which collects defrost water, must be kept clean. To clean it, switch off and unplug the appliance, push down the lug with a screwdriver, pull out the tray, clean it, and then reassemble.
    • The defrost water pipe at the back should be fixed to the plastic evaporating pan on top of the compressor to prevent water spillage. If the drain tube is blocked, it can be cleared by pushing the special plastic plunger provided and flushing with warm tap water.
    • Door seals should be checked regularly for cleanliness and absence of food particles.
    • Door racks can be removed by pushing them upwards from the base after emptying their contents.
  • Condenser Cleaning: Any dust accumulating on the condenser at the back of the appliance should be removed once a year with a vacuum cleaner.
  • Light Bulb Replacement: To change the interior light bulb/LED, contact an Authorised Service. The lamps are designed for food illumination within the appliance and are not suitable for household room illumination.
  • Extended Storage: If the appliance will not be used for a long period, it should be switched off, emptied of all food, cleaned, and the door left ajar.
  • General Care:
    • Do not sit or stand on the appliance.
    • Avoid touching the bottom condenser metal wires at the back during cleaning or carrying to prevent injury.
    • Ensure the mains cable is not caught or damaged during transport or movement.
    • Do not allow children to play with the appliance or tamper with controls.
    • Do not use any copper pot or dish inside the cabinet.
    • Do not load any food without packaging.
