Overview

This document provides operating instructions for a Beko Multi-Door Household Refrigerator, model MN13790PX. It covers safety information, product features, handling and placement guidelines, operation notes, food storage recommendations, ice-making instructions, accessory disassembly and assembly, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

The refrigerator is designed for household use and features a computer-controlled intelligent temperature system with air cooling and frost-free operation. It utilizes environmentally friendly R600a refrigerant and materials without CFCs, with 80% of its main components being recyclable. The design includes transparent drawers for easy visibility of contents, height-adjustable tempered glass shelves that are wear-proof, heat-proof, and practical, and a concealed condenser for a flat back design that is easy to clean and maximizes space utility. The appliance is equipped with an efficient, quiet international brand compressor and special case foaming technology, resulting in low noise and energy consumption, making it suitable for family use.

Safety Instructions:

The manual emphasizes several warnings to ensure safe operation. It states that ventilation openings must remain clear and advises against using mechanical devices or other means to accelerate defrosting, except those recommended by the manufacturer. Users are warned not to damage the refrigerant circuit or use electrical appliances inside food storage compartments unless they are of the recommended type. Storing explosive substances like aerosol cans with flammable propellants is prohibited. Liquid beverages or food in glass containers should not be placed in the freezing chamber to prevent cracking. After a power outage, the refrigerator should not be powered on again for at least 5 minutes to protect the compressor. In case of any live part, abnormal noise, smell, smoke, or other abnormality, the appliance should be powered off immediately, and the after-sales service department contacted. Users should avoid placing hands or fingers under the refrigerator, especially at the rear bottom, due to sharp parts. Children must not play or climb on the refrigerator and should be supervised by parents. The door handle should always be used to open or close the door to prevent finger jamming. The appliance is designed to operate within specific ambient temperature ranges depending on its climate type (SN, N, ST, T).

Cautions:

The appliance requires a power supply uniform with the nameplate specifications and a standard independent 3-hole socket (above 10A, reliably grounded). One socket should not be shared by multiple appliances to prevent overheating and fire. The power cord should never be pulled by hand; instead, the power connector should be held to unplug it. Wet hands should not touch the power cord or connector to avoid electric shock. The power cord must not be squeezed by the refrigerator or heavy loads, nor should it be bent excessively, as damage can lead to fire or electric shock. If the power cord is damaged, the after-sales service department must be contacted. Flammable, explosive, corrosive acid, or alkaline substances are not allowed inside the refrigerator. The refrigerator is for indoor use only, and placing liquid containers on top is forbidden as spillage could affect electrical insulation, leading to shock or fire. Disassembly or modification without permission is prohibited, and repairs must be performed by a specialist. In case of flammable gas leakage, the valve should be closed, the window opened for ventilation, and the refrigerator connector should not be unplugged immediately to avoid electric sparks. The manual also cautions that refrigerating appliances may not operate consistently in extended periods below their designed cold temperature range, potentially leading to defrosting or warming of frozen food. It reminds users not to exceed food manufacturers' recommended storage times and to take precautions (e.g., wrapping frozen food in newspaper) to prevent temperature rise during defrosting or maintenance. Users are advised on actions to take when the appliance is temporarily or permanently switched off (emptying, cleaning, drying, and propping doors ajar).

Handling and Placement:

When handling the refrigerator, at least two people are required, with one lifting the top rear and the other handling the bottom. The lower runners can damage floors, so care is needed when moving. For long-distance moves, internal accessories should be secured with adhesive tape to prevent damage from crashing. The refrigerator should be placed on a flat, firm surface, and the adjusting legs should be used to level it if the ground is uneven. It should be located in a dry, well-ventilated environment, away from direct sunlight and heat sources. The manual specifies leaving at least 10cm clearance on the sides and 30cm at the top for proper heat dissipation. Insufficient clearance can affect heat dissipation, increase energy consumption, and potentially damage the wall or other items. The foam base should be removed for better bottom heat dissipation and fire prevention. The refrigerator should not be placed in excessively cold environments where it might freeze.

Preparations Prior to Use:

Before first use, all packing materials, especially the foam base, must be removed. The interior and exterior of the refrigerator should be cleaned with a warm, wet cloth (neutral detergent can be added). After leveling and cleaning, the refrigerator should stand for about 5 hours before plugging it in. It should then cool for 2 to 3 hours before storing food. In hot weather, it may take 24 hours for food to fully freeze, and the refrigerating condition should be checked on the second day. Any plastic odor will dissipate after a while. The appliance should be placed in the coolest area of the room, away from heat-producing appliances or heating ducts, and out of direct sunlight. Hot foods should be cooled to room temperature before being placed in the appliance to prevent the compressor from running longer and to avoid food spoilage. Foods should be properly wrapped and containers wiped dry to reduce frost buildup. Storage bins should not be lined with foil, wax paper, or paper toweling, as this interferes with cold air circulation and reduces efficiency. Organizing and labeling food helps reduce door openings and extended searches.

Food Storage:

  • Refrigerating Chamber (2°C~8°C): Primarily for short-term storage of items like milk, eggs, and bottled drinks. Vegetables, melons, and fruits should be placed in the fruit and vegetable box to prevent water loss. Cooked foods should be packaged in preservative bags before storage to prevent frosting and energy increase.
  • Freezing Chamber (-22°C~-15°C): For long-term food storage. Fish and meat should be cut into small pieces, packaged separately, and placed in the frozen drawer. Glass or sealed containers with liquid should not be stored in the freezing chamber to prevent bursting. Fresh foods should not be stored with frozen foods. Avoid placing food too close to the inside wall of the freezer to prevent freezing together.
  • Warm Tips: Stored food should not block the air duct outlet or return port to maintain refrigerating effect. Overheated water and food should be cooled to room temperature before storage. All accessories (drawers, shelves, balconies) should be kept in place for lower energy consumption.

Guidance for Storing Fresh Food:

  • Maintain fridge temperature at 4°C.
  • Seal food properly to avoid odor or taste alterations.
  • Avoid overloading; leave space for cold air circulation.
  • Store frequently used items at the front of shelves.
  • Leave a gap between food and inner walls to prevent freezing against the rear wall.
  • Cool hot, cooked food to room temperature before storing. Do not place warm food near highly perishable items.
  • Thaw frozen food in the fresh food compartment to utilize its coldness and save energy.
  • Unripe tropical fruits (mango, melons, papaya, banana, pineapple) should generally not be stored in the refrigerator as it accelerates aging. Green fruits (apple, pear) can be ripened in the fridge.
  • Onions, garlic, ginger, and other root vegetables should be stored in dark, cool conditions, not in the fridge.
  • Dispose of spoiled food immediately and clean contaminated surfaces.
  • Divide large portions of food (soups, stews, cooked meat, whole poultry) into shallow containers or smaller pieces for quicker cooling.
  • Do not store unpacked food near eggs.
  • Keep fruits and vegetables separate (e.g., apples with apples, carrots with carrots) as they emit different gases that can cause spoilage.
  • Wrap leafy greens in paper or tea towels after removing them from plastic bags, ensuring they are dry.
  • Store fruits and vegetables prone to drying in perforated or unsealed plastic bags to maintain moisture while allowing air circulation.
  • Place different foods in appropriate areas based on their properties.
  • The manual also reiterates climate class information (SN, N, ST, T) and their corresponding ambient temperature ranges.

Guidance for Using the Freezer:

  • Recommended freezer setting is -20°C, except in extreme ambient conditions.
  • Activate Fast Freeze 4-6 hours before freezing to ensure faster freezing.
  • Cool hot food to room temperature before placing it in the freezer.
  • Cut food into small portions for faster freezing and easier defrosting/cooking.
  • Pack food before freezing.
  • Note freezing date, time limit, and food name on packaging to adhere to storage periods.
  • Do not exceed recommended food storage times. Take out only the required amount of food.
  • Consume defrosted food quickly; do not refreeze defrosted food unless cooked.
  • Avoid contact between fresh food and already frozen food during freezing to prevent thawing.

Disassembly and Assembly Method of Accessory:

  • Glass shelf: Height adjustable. Pull outwardly and upwardly to remove.
  • Fruit and vegetable box: For storing vegetables and fruits. Pull outwardly to remove.
  • Drawer in the freezing chamber: For long-term storage of meat and fish. Pull outwardly and lift upwardly to remove. It is recommended to cut large pieces of meat into smaller pieces before freezing. Distribute quick-freezing foods uniformly.
  • Bottle pedestal at the refrigerating door: For storing eggs, bottled drinks, and other sundries. Lift slightly to remove. Do not pull forcibly to avoid damage.

Changing the Light:

Any replacement or maintenance of LED lamps must be performed by the manufacturer, its service agent, or a similarly qualified person.

Maintenance:

Regular maintenance is recommended.

  • Unplug the power plug before cleaning to prevent electric shock.
  • Use a wet cloth and neutral detergent to wipe off oil and dirt, then thoroughly wipe off the detergent.
  • Do not use alkaline detergent, soap powder, gasoline, alcohol, or talcum powder, as these can damage coatings or plastics.
  • Regularly clean the refrigerator body and the ground around it.
  • Inspections after maintenance: Check for damage to the power line and plug, dust on the power plug, abnormal heat on the plug, loose socket, and whether the plug is fully inserted.
  • Note: Damaged power lines/plugs or dust can cause electric shock or fire. Wait 5 minutes after unplugging before re-plugging. Do not put hands under the refrigerator to avoid injury.

Failure Analysis (Troubleshooting):

The manual provides a guide for common issues and their remedies, distinguishing between actual failures requiring attention and non-failures that are normal operational phenomena.

Failures (requiring inspection):

  • Refrigerator not working/poor refrigeration: Check power supply, exposure to direct sunlight or heat sources, and sufficient heat dissipation space. Remedies include connecting power, moving the refrigerator away from heat/sunlight, and ensuring adequate clearance.
  • Foods in refrigerating chamber frozen: Check if the setting temperature is too low or if foods with high water content are too close to the rear wall. Remedies include increasing temperature and moving such foods to the door side of the glass shelf.
  • Abnormal sound: Check for instability, proximity to walls, or contact with other objects. Remedies include adjusting leveling legs, ensuring sufficient clearance, and removing obstacles.
  • Abnormal odor: Check if foods are sealed, if the refrigerator is clean, or if foods are stored for too long. Remedies include sealing foods, regular cleaning, and not storing foods for excessive periods.

Non-failures (normal phenomena):

  • Warm or hot sides/spacing between compartments: This is due to refrigerator pipes (condenser, anti-fog pipes) on the sides and front for heat dissipation and condensation prevention.
  • Door too tight/hard to open: Reopening immediately after closing is difficult because hot air entering and contracting creates a pressure difference. It becomes easier after a short while.
  • Water ripple sound: This sound is made by refrigerant when the compressor starts or stops, and by water produced during defrosting.
  • "Click" or "tick" sound: Caused by the shrinkage and swelling of the case, especially when it's cold or the door is opened.
  • Hum sound: Normal compressor running sound (louder if the refrigerator is not leveled).
  • Condensation/frosting on freezer door surface or food surface: Occurs due to high ambient temperature/humidity, prolonged door opening, or unsealed/unwrapped foods with high water content.
  • Condensation on built-in light surface: Heat from the light combined with prolonged door opening creates a temperature difference, leading to condensation.
  • Condensation and water mist on body: High ambient humidity causes moisture in the air to gather on the case.
