Set up
Go through with procedures 1–4 of the
Set Up instructions. Thereafter connect
the inlet port of the extension line to
the bellows using the screw connector.
Remove the protective cap from the
autotransfusion bag and connect the
bag to the outlet port of the extension
line using the screw connector.
Continue with procedure 7 of the Set
Up instructions. If the Transfusion Set
is to be connected to the venipuncture
site before it is filled with blood, it
has to be primed with saline solution.
Blood collection
Leave both clamps of the Extension
Line open and work with the inlet
and outlet clamps of the bellows as
described in the instructions given for
Blood collection.
Reinfusion
Make sure that the following clamps
are closed prior to reinfusion; outlet
clamp of the bellows, inlet and outlet
clamp of the Extension Line, and inlet
clamp of the bag. Carefully follow the
instructions given for Reinfusion.
Exchange of bag and Extension Line
If a second unit blood is to be collected
and reinfused, the Extension Line,
Autotransfusion bag, and Transfusion
Set must be exchanged. To avoid the
blood from being disconnected from
the body (for religious reasons), starts
retransfusion before exchanging the
extension line and autotransfusion
bag. In this way the blood is always
in contact with the body. Make sure
that the outlet clamp of the bellows is
closed. Close the inlet clamp and the
outlet clamp of the Extension Line,
and the inlet clamp of the Autotrans-
fusion bag. Disconnect the used
Extension Line, Autotransfusion bag
and Transfusion Set, and connect new
ones applying previously described
procedures for Set Up.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
The Extension Line is used as an extension between
the Bellovac
™
ABT outlet and the Autotransfusion bag.
The Extension Line can be used if it is necessary to
maintain a closed circuit (for religious reasons) during
blood collection and reinfusion.
