This document describes the BellSouth Caller ID with Call Waiting Deluxe and Voice Mail Functions, Model CI-7112. This device is designed to enhance your telephone experience by providing detailed information about incoming calls and offering advanced call management features.
Function Description:
The BellSouth CI-7112 primarily functions as a Caller ID unit, displaying the name and telephone number of incoming callers. This core feature requires a subscription to Caller ID service from your local telephone company. Beyond basic Caller ID, the device integrates Call Waiting Deluxe and Voice Mail functions, which also require subscription to these services from your local telephone company.
The Call Waiting Deluxe feature allows the LCD display to show incoming caller information even when you are already on the phone. This enables you to manage multiple calls simultaneously, offering options to manipulate calls as provided by your local telephone company. The Voice Mail functions provide access to messaging system services offered by your local telephone company, allowing you to manage your voicemails directly through the device.
The unit features a dual display, which is a large 4-line LCD that shows information for both the active call and any waiting calls simultaneously. This is particularly useful for managing calls with the Call Waiting Deluxe feature. The device also includes a Real Time Clock, which displays the current hour, minute, and second in idle mode. This clock is automatically set by the first incoming call and resets with each subsequent incoming Caller ID.
For memory retention, the CI-7112 stores up to 67 multiple Caller ID records (including both name and telephone number) or up to 99 Caller ID records (number only). This memory is crucial for reviewing past calls and utilizing the Caller ID Memory Dial feature.

Maintenance Features:
The BellSouth CI-7112 requires minimal maintenance, focusing primarily on power management and general care.
Power Management:
- AC Power Adaptor: The unit requires the provided AC power adaptor (DC 9V, 300mA) for operation. It should be plugged into a standard AC outlet.
- Battery Installation: It is highly recommended to install two AA size alkaline batteries (not included) to prevent loss of Caller ID memory and voice mail commands during a power failure or if the unit is unplugged. The safety locking screw for the battery compartment should be tightened after installation.
- Battery Low Indicator: An indicator on the display will alert you when the batteries are low, prompting you to replace them as soon as possible.
- Reset Button: A small, straight object can be used to press the RESET button on the back of the unit. This is useful for initial installation or if the unit is not functioning normally. When changing batteries, new ones should be installed within one minute to avoid loss of stored call information, especially if the unit is not connected to AC power.
General Care:
- Handling: The Caller ID unit is a sensitive electronic instrument and should be handled with care.
- Environment: Avoid exposing the unit to heating appliances, electrical noise-generating devices (like motors and fluorescent lamps), vibration, shock, or direct sunlight. It is designed for indoor use only.
- Cleaning: The unit should be kept free of dust and moisture. Wipe it with a soft, clean cloth only.
- Troubleshooting: If you experience difficulty, disconnect the unit from the telephone line and connect a known working unit. If the known unit works, the problem is with the CI-7112. If the known unit also has problems, contact your telephone company. If the unit operates properly, refer to the warranty instructions.
- Telephone Line Connection: The unit connects to the telephone wall jack via the TEL.LINE jack and your telephone connects to the PHONE jack on the CI-7112. If an answering machine is used, it connects between the CI-7112's PHONE jack and your telephone's LINE jack.
This comprehensive set of features ensures that the BellSouth CI-7112 provides a robust and user-friendly solution for managing telephone communications, offering convenience and control over incoming calls and voicemails.
