Source sys (colour system – recording)
This item enables you to select the exact colour
system you want the video tape recorder to use
when you record from certain (extra) sources on
to the video tape in the BeoVision Avant.
For example, when you record satellite TV
programmes, copy video tapes from another
recorder or record directly from the TV tuner in
the BeoVision Avant; etc.
AUTO... Is the standard setting and it should
be selected in most cases as the video tape
recorder usually registers the colour system
quite automatically.
However, when you play back your recordings
from a specific source, you may experience that
the colours of these recordings are not
satisfactory. In such a case, you can select the
colour system manually during recording:
PAL... Ensures that your recording will be made
in accordance with the PAL system.
SECAM... Ensures that your recording will be
made in accordance with the SECAM system.

SECAM sys (SECAM system – recording)
This item allows you to select the type of SECAM
system you wish to use, generally, for recording
on to your video tapes:
SECAM... Ensures that your recordings will be
made in accordance with the SECAM system,
and should therefore be selected for the
recording of SECAM TV programmes.
MESECAM... Should only be selected if you want
to be able to play back your recordings of
SECAM TV programmes on a PAL video
taperecorder. You will then get a modified
PAL/SECAM recording on your tapes.

Play sys (colour system – playback)
This item enables you to select a specific colour
system, manually, when playing back a particular
video tape:
AUTO... Is the standard setting and should be
selected in most cases as the video tape
recorder usually registers the correct type of
system quite automatically.
However, to obtain maximum picture quality (for
example, the right colours) when playing back a
tape, you may have to instruct the video tape
recorder to play back a specific tape using exactly
the same system as the one in which the tape was
recorded:
PAL... For your PAL recordings.
SECAM... For your SECAM recordings.
MESECAM... For your MESECAM (modified
PAL/SECAM) recordings.

Note: Do not forget to switch back to AUTO
afterwards!
