Overview

This document is an installation, use, and care manual for the Best CP34, CP35, and CP37 Series power pack systems, intended for domestic cooking. It provides comprehensive instructions for installation, safety warnings, technical specifications, and maintenance guidelines.

Function Description:

The Best CP34, CP35, and CP37 Series are power pack range hoods designed to be integrated into custom hood frameworks. Their primary function is to ventilate cooking fumes, smoke, and odors from the kitchen to the outdoors, ensuring proper air quality and preventing grease accumulation. The units feature a built-in blower system, baffle filters for grease capture, and halogen lighting for illuminating the cooktop. The CP34 and CP35 models are equipped with a single blower (600 CFM), while the CP37 model features a dual blower (1200 CFM) for higher capacity. The CP34 model also includes an integrated 300 CFM air flow reducer.

  • Minimum Hood Distance Above Cooktop: 24" (recommended maximum 30" for best capture of cooking impurities).
  • Safety Features: Thermal overload protection for the motor, Heat Sentry™ thermostat.

Usage Features:

The power pack systems are designed for ease of use with intuitive controls.

  • Cooktop Lighting: A rotary 3-position knob controls the halogen lights, offering OFF, low intensity, and high intensity settings.
  • Blower Operation: The blower is controlled by an on/off rocker switch and a speed control knob. Turning the rocker switch ON activates the blower at its previous speed setting. The speed control knob allows users to increase or decrease blower speed by turning it counterclockwise or clockwise, respectively.
  • Heat Sentry™: This feature automatically activates or increases the blower speed to HIGH if excessive heat is detected above the cooking surface. If the blower is OFF, it will turn ON to HIGH speed. If the blower is already ON at a lower speed, it will switch to HIGH speed. A critical safety note warns that during a range top fire or excessive heat, the Heat Sentry™ can activate the blower even if the hood is turned off, and it cannot be stopped with the blower switch. In such cases, the blower must be stopped from the main electrical panel. Once the temperature returns to normal, the blower reverts to its original setting.
  • General Use: Users are advised to turn on the hood before cooking to establish airflow and let it run for a few minutes after cooking to clear the air.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance is crucial for optimal performance and longevity of the unit.

  • Baffle Filters: These filters should be cleaned frequently with a warm detergent solution, especially with cooking styles that generate more grease (e.g., frying, wok cooking). They are dishwasher safe. Filters are removed by pushing them towards the back of the hood and rotating them downward. They should be allowed to dry completely before reinstallation. Discoloration from phosphate detergents or local water conditions is normal and does not affect performance.
  • Grease Drip Rail: The grease drip rail also requires frequent cleaning with a warm detergent solution. It is removed by lifting one end to disengage it, sliding it left or right, and then lifting the opposite end. It should be dried completely before reinstallation.
  • Rotary Control Knobs: These can be removed for cleaning by loosening a 1/16" hexagonal set screw.
  • Blower(s) Cleaning: The blower(s) can be accessed by removing the filters and cleaned with a vacuum. They should not be immersed in water.
  • Stainless Steel Cleaning:
    • Do: Regularly wash with a clean cloth or rag soaked in warm water and mild soap/liquid dish detergent. Always clean in the direction of the original polish lines. Rinse well with clear water (2-3 times) and wipe dry completely. Specialized household stainless steel cleaner can also be used.
    • Don't: Use steel or stainless steel wool, scrapers, harsh/abrasive cleansers. Avoid dirt accumulation. Prevent drywall spray or construction dust from reaching the power unit by covering it during construction/renovation.
  • Detergent Selection: Avoid cleaners containing bleach, chloride, fluoride, iodide, or bromide as they can damage stainless steel surfaces. Combustible products like acetone, alcohol, ether, or benzol should never be used near a range due to explosion risk.
